Hey bro. Mikeasaurus just PMed me about the new K'NEX contest, called: "Rods & Connectors." I just wanted to let you know that it will start June 1 - August 12, 2013.
Here are those pics of my MP5SD that you "requested." The first four pics are just stuff that might be helpful for you in building your body, the fifth pic is how I formatted my mag-well. Pics 6 and 7 are how I decided to build my sights, and the last two are how I build my mech. The rest are pics that might help you...they are just different types and different views of the MP5SD.
Ah, my Magpul Masada. Yes, it is one of my favorites. And yes, it is a pity that the community has died down...I wish I had been here in the golden days...
I am one of the few, if only, people on this site from the golden days. Man, THAT was when innovation was booming. See, the knex community was really young then, and the guns that came out were amazing. But what's weird is that the guns that were created were of the same caliber as they are now. But at the time, those guns were considered amazing. Currently, those same guns are considered the norm. That's cause every gun is amazing. *yours especially ;)
That magpul was beautiful man... I would absolutely love to make it after I finish my current projects
Ah, I see. Well, even if I was here in the golden days, I would not have been up to the par that I am now at. Again, I am glad you like my Magpul Masada ACR, I like it too. =D
I hope you took enough pictures of the Magpul Masada ACR that you could possibly recreate it and make an instructable??? It has a pretty nice range and an incredible look to it
I would, however, like to add that the power behind a gun isn't necessarily the pull back length. It's the distance the ram travels before striking the bullet. The reason behind this is because as the ram ACCELERATES down it's path, it builds velocity and strikes a stationary bullet of smaller mass. This is basic momentum.
Lets assume that a black rod has a mass of 10 grams, so 0.01 kg, and accelerates down the barrel at a rate of 15m/s (i'm just assigning values randomly). The bullet, say a blue rod, will be only 2 grams (0.002 kg), and will have an initial velocity of 0.
Momentum is calculated based on mv = mv (in a primitive sense).
0.01 kg * 15 = 0.002 kg * v
Solve for v, and you'll notice that it is CONSIDERABLY greater than the 15 m/s with which the ram hits the bullet. I'm not sure if you've already taken physics or not lol, so sorry about the lecture!
But i'd suggest that rather than simply focusing on the pullback length, focus on the distance from the tip of the ram to the beginning of the bullet. This also has a lot to do with Impulse, which is related to time. Inversely related to be exact....
