Think about it.... Whenyou hold something in both hands, each one shakes separatley. Forward and back motion won't affect your shot, but up and down will. The motion that THAT creates transmits into a clockwise-counterclockwise action that is most severe when holding the camera directly. As you spread your hands futher out, your hands need to move more to create the same amount of shake, so the wheel gives you a variation on the 12-foot 2x4 "shaky-cam" mount used in "Raising Arizona". In other words, it steadies the camera.
