Re: Pest Repellent: I have lots of potted plants/flowers, outside. Some of our thoughtful neighbors feed peanuts to the local squirrels. The squirrels are fun to watch, but they would often bury excess peanuts in my flower pots, damaging and sometimes killing flowers. I tried black pepper and hot pepper sprays with some success, but black pepper is expensive and the hot pepper spray is probably unkind. I discovered that sprinkling used coffee grounds in each potted plant works great to discourage the squirrels. The potted plants and flowers are thriving, undisturbed, and the squirrels are still fun to watch.

For those who have whacked a handheld avocado, without injury, I'm glad for you. Thanks, kelleymarie for the recipe and 'ible. I didn't mean to detract. Thanks for taking time to share.
No, no, no. Don't hold the avocado in your hand when you whack the pit with a knife. Lay it on a dish towel or something else. Justification for not holding the avocado when you whack it with a knife should not be required.
