Great question until "...the green buttons?" The rest was completed unnecessary, specially "wasted my time"! Thanks for RudyD1 to answer it what was the gray box!.
JoeB95, I've done a similar process to my dead Ryobi 18v battery packs and they work great after. I don't even dismantle the batteries. When opened you find these battery packs have 5 single cells and the bigger ones have 5 pairs. I individually charge each cell / pair with a TP4056 USB charger board. After all cells are charged, I closed the battery pack and use it with my power tools. After this I'm able to continue charging them with the regular Ryobi charger. I've done this to 5 packs now and they have been working ok for the last 8 months. What I'm expecting with my process is that at some moment a cell won't charge. If that happens then I guess that cell is damaged and will need to be replaced.
