  • Convert Your Old Laptop Battery Into a Power Bank

Very nice project , very neatly done .But I don't think that I will build one . I have an adapter cable that plugs into my computer USB port to charge my phone ( I got it at the " dollar store " for a couple of bucks ) and it works just fine ! Cheers , take care , and have a good day !..73

    Remove Branding From Your Car

Yeah , J ,I never did like the idea of the car dealers getting free advertisement on my vehicle . If it is a small logo , or a license plate frame , I don't worry too much . I don't wear tee shirts with advertising , except for products that I actually use and like ( Fender and Gibson guitars , Harley Davidson bikes , and others ) Or to support a particular group or cause that I am in favor of ( veterans , etc ) . One of my vehicles that I have is an ugly old 1990 3/4 ton Chevy cargo van , with 250,000 miles on it . It will start and run anytime i need it , and haul anything I put in it . It was originally gray , but a previous owner had painted it white , with a brush or a dirty broom or something ! anyway , the paint is peeling off in a lot of places , and my neighbor says ,(...see more »Yeah , J ,I never did like the idea of the car dealers getting free advertisement on my vehicle . Homemade Woodworking Lathe

Very nice ,I like it ! Good construction . The only problem that comes to mind with using wood to make a machine tool is that without proper climate control , the wood can warp slightly and affect alignment . , which shouldn't be a real issue on a woodworking machine . Great job !!

    De-Rust Your Old Table Saw

Hey JennW , I guess I don't understand the "?? " part . I was merely agreeing with you on a point or two . WD40 , Liquid Wrench , and some other products were never intended to be a permanent lubricant / coating , they are just good for freeing up rusted parts , and cleaning , but that is about it ! Cheers , take care , and have a good day !..73...Ray

    De-Rust Your Old Table Saw

Well .. using the proper chemical or lubricant or coating at the proper time is very important . it can make all of the difference in how things work !!!Cheers , take care , and have a good day !..73...

Kind of reminds me of :I was working with a friend of mine at a workbench years ago and he was giving me some tips about how to work on this or that . and he said several times that there are many ways to " kill a cat " . after a while , I said " hey , wait a minute ! " If we keep this up , we will be up to our waists in dead cats !! Anyway , Thanks , good advice on taking care of a saw !!Cheers , take care , and have a good day !..73..

    Automatic mailbox light

Oh yeah ,How about an audible signal to let you know when the mail is delivered . Set a mousetrap and put it in your mailbox , and you will hear your mail carrier yell , letting you know that the mail is there !!Cheers !!

If you read my comment again , you will see that I suggested a THIRD AA battery and connect them in series , which would give you 4.5 volts , which should light any LED . If you worry about wasting batteries , you could make the project with a small solar panel and rechargeable batteries ( lithium would be a good choice ) or even a large capacitor to store the energy ( more environmentally friendly than the batteries as far as disposal problems when it wears out ) More ideas: Carry a flashlight ,Change the burned out bulb in your porch light !!Cheers , take care , and have a good day !!....73...

    Automatic mailbox light

Good project !But I myself , IMHO , have always liked simplicity in designs . If you added a third AA battery , and connected them in series , you wouldn't need the " boost converter " . And if all you need to do is find your mail in the mailbox , I don't see why the LED's need to fade and get brighter or dimmer . ( look up : Rube Goldberg and Heath Robinson ) All that you need is the tilt switch , batteries , LED's , and the properly sized resistors . Cheers , take care , and have a good day !! .........73

    Dust Sniper (quiet extractor system)

Good project ! I like it !My workshop is a 24 foot by 24 foot garage building behind my house . I use it for a lot of things , working on projects , practicing music , also my " ham shack " , anyway I don't want a bunch of extra noise in there . I have a small ( 8X10 ) shed a few feet from it . I ran pipes and wires and have my air compressor out there , so I don't have to listen to it . I may put a shop-vac and cyclone separator out there as well , using cheap PVC pipe or even metal pipe for the suction line for my saws and things . I really like the fact that you stressed the environmental safety . Cheers , take care , and have a good day !..73Ray , KE8CWT , and PG1920311

Yeah , polycarbonate is kind of a generic name , it is a good , durable plastic . Lexan is a General Electric brand name , and Makrolon is a brand that belongs Bayer , basically the same stuff . Over the years , before I retired , I spent years working for both GE and Bayer ( at different times , of course ) . Both are good companies , and are real picky about quality control in their products . But a cyclone dust separator could be made out of most anything . some materials are more durable than others . The most common ones that I worked with in industry were made of steel . Cheers , take care , and have a good day !!....73
