How to Make a Touch Switch Using One Mosfet
In the first attached image you will see two solid-shaded acrylic hold-down pieces which are part of the lid assembly. (The second image shows the lid assembly turned upside down.) They serve to hold the filter fabric/mesh in place. There is a gap between the hold-downs and the lid sides. The hold-downs are cemented to the ends of the lid.The filter fabric threads from the inside of the lid side, down and through the hold-down gap; the fabric then threads under the hold-down and up over the plywood frame. It does the same on the opposite side. When assembling the lid onto the plywood frame, the filter fabric is stretched over the frame and clamped down and held in place by the hold downs. I hope this helps.

How to Look After Your Tools
There might be a problem combining a water filter in proximity to an activated charcoal filter. Can Filters, the manufacturer of the activated charcoal filter I used, has this general warning against using their filters in high-humidity.Try not to run your ﬁlter for long periods at or above 70% humidity, the water molecules in the air start to get stuck in the carbon pore structure and slowly diminish the life of the ﬁlter.

I've updated the Instructable with results of net airflow tests for the build. I've also added a note that if your laser cutter requires higher CFM airflow then you should consider upgrading the fan to a model with higher airflow at 1.25 to 1.4 in. wg high resistance. (This last part is critical. Many fans will advertise high airflow, but often those numbers are for little or no resistance.)
These are great ideas. Originally, I had wanted to build the filter system as a modular system where you could "plug in" the filters you desired. I guess that's going to be a feature of the Fume Coffin Mark II.

I built this laser cutter ventilation filter and wrote up this Instructable for it. https://www.instructables.com/id/Fume-Coffin-Laser...It's based on some of the ideas in this Instructable, but it is intended to filter exhaust air for ventilation outside rather than act as an air scrubber filter like this project. Thanks for the inspiration and great ideas.
It's not loud. I think it may be a bit quieter than the previous fan I was using. I measured the sound level from the Fume Coffin: 56 dB at speed 158 dB at speed 259 db at speed 3(A-weighted at 1m)That's actually quieter than the air-assist compressor and the chiller (when the compressor is running) (a S&A CW-5000) which are 62 db and 60 db respectively.I have read of people using insulation-wrapped ducts and smooth ducts to reduce exhaust noise.
