But in Australia we (like the English) still talk about a fridge, an abbreviation for Frigidaire, the french brand. The Americans do better (for once) when talking about a "ref" as an abbreviation for refrigerator. The french talk about a "frigo" or just "a frigidaire", although this is older (everything gets shortened these days).
