The edge is harder than the rest of the knife. I harden the whole knife and then soften the spine & the tang using a torch. The edge stays harder. So it holds a good edge. Only needing to be honed, not sharpened. Under normal use you may need to sharpen it once or twice a year. Great for cutting steak!

Good idea, thanks.

I look forward to making a Schiavona, a famous sword, to hang it in my living room. But it would be a great challenge for me, very difficult. My surname is Schiavoni, I could brag "it belonged to my great great grandfather at Venice!".

I like your smart, practical and simple ideas. You motivate me to learn some metal work when I come home. :)

Thanks, Kate. I have simple ideas because can't have more elaborate ideas. It is a fact, nor good neither bad. Or may be I would say it is good and bad simultaneously.

Muchas gracias.

Thank you very much. But remember that the worst evil are what they don't seem.
