I actually lost 30+ pounds on the Atkins or Low Carb diet and a Dr. told me all my labs were fine and if it worked for me then saw no problems with it. A general practice Dr could offer educated advice but should not be relied upon for dietary issues other than common sense like not eating sugar 24/7. Other than a condition like diabetes, I don't see why forgoing food for what is mostly overnight would be such a big deal and not worth trying!
