Here is the FAQs at sherlines website. http://www.sherline.com/faq.htm#30Here you can see that it all depends on the operator, with 0.0002" possible on the lathe mentioned. The better the operator, the better the resulting accuracy. If you have a sherline mill, adjust it as this instructable shows, and see how accurate you can get! You're right, the mill cannot push against hard materials and get that accuracy, but for brass, copper or soft materials, it can be done! Happy making:)

The mill used here is a sherline 5400 mill, the base model in the sherline lineup. You can find them on eBay or by going to sherline.com. A word of warning, they are not easy on the wallet, especially if they are the CNC version. But a pretty good mill overall.
