Great idea for a portable psu to throw in the toolbox. I might make one.For me, rather than the dip switches, I'd use a row of jumpers - to limit the chances of selecting more than one at a time! Thanks for sharing.
This is how we got all the ICs for my highschool technology class! It was 30 years ago, and in our poor northern town we could never have afforded all those TTL chips, had we needed to buy them! Happy harvesting!

At highschool we used a similar technique. All the ICs in our technology class came from old PCBs donated by a video game company.We used a blow torch and pliars :)Dont think a highschool today would allow that :-P
Use wet books, that should buy you some time ;-) Personally, i just used a classmate to hold the pcb. Depending on how much i liked the classmate i would avoid applying heat to the corners of the PCB
