I also think this is a dangerous idea - but this is instructables, why not think of a way to make it safe?One idea would be to put a digital thermometer at the end of the chimney and measure the temperature. If the temperature of the exhaust gases drops below 100°C then switch off the fan. Or find a place for the bimetal switch where the minimum temperature for the exhaust gases is met.
