I see a lot of people having problem with this build. For mine, I offset the air pipe inlet a bit so it didn't blow directly on the crucible. Before I used it the first time I burned a load of charcoal in it without the lid for about an hour and then for about an hour with the lid. Using the lid will reduce the number of embers that get released. The fire extinguisher has to be steel. A lot of them are made of aluminum. My crucible is made of a piece of 3" steel schedule 80 pipe with a 1/4" plate welded on the bottom. I also put some expanded metal in the lid for reinforcing. Hope these tips help.
