3D of flat model? Answered

I would like to have a 3D image of a military badge, I have the badge, 4" by 6" by .25 thick, so it is flat. will this process still work, should my camera be on an angle ? or 90 deg. ? direct above ?

Good question! Does the badge have relief details on it (relief details are good)? And is it shiny? This process should work, but if it's shiny, you may need to cover it in chalk paint or something else that can wash off in order to be able to capture it. Shiny objects don't work well. I'd say, first try laying the badge flat on a surface with a lot of detail (a piece of newspaper should work fine) and shooting at about a 45 degree angle all the way around it (rotating your camera, not the object), then shooting a few images over the top. If that doesn't work, try the method where you put the badge on a lazy susan and rotate it with your camera on a tripod. I talk about all this in Lesson 3. Let me know if it works and we can troubleshoot :)
