3G "adaptor" for ADSL Router

I was looking for a 3G Router and I was thinking about the ADSL router I have at home and if I can use the same one with the 3G Huawei card that I have. I don't have a landlines because the telecoms company has no infrastructure where I live.   So would it be possible to have some kind of adaptor that connects to the port where the phone line goes in but on the other end have a USB port that you can plug in the 3G card? There would need to be some kind of electronics/software in between I suppose. Any Ideas on how this can be done or if it can be done?

Iphone 3g disabled , cant get it to restore mode or to code screen ?

Ok ! I bought an iphone with a broken charger connector , cut to three months later ( today) I have changed the connector and got the phone working. Didnt even think about there being a code on it. So like the complete nob that I am , I attempted the code three times , only to be locked out. now strangely enough I did reconnect to my computer at one point and it gave me the code screen again , not sure if thats cause i still had the phone in parts , and accidently disconnected a ribbon , or if thats what has caused the code screen to totally disaper. Well anyways , all the main advice I can find on google and on youtube about connecting to itunes , and putting it into the restore mode do not work , ie turn off phone , turn back on , but keep the home button down , I have tried numerous variations, numerous times and I cant seem to make it happen ???????? I managed to conntact the guy I got the phone from, and have 2 possible codes , but that dosent look like its going to help now ??? Any advice please,

Charing an iPhone 3g with batteries

Hi all, I've been trying to charge my iPhone 3g with AA batteries. I have the batteries, which are producing 6 volts and about 2700 millamps hooked up to a 5 volt, 1 amp regulator. Then I have the output of the regulator hooked up to a female usb, which charges my friend's phone fine (generic samsung). However, when I hook it up to my iphone charger, it doesn't seem like its charging and the charging screen does not come up. Does anyone know what the problem is? Thanks,

[GUIDE] Raspberry Pi 3g Internet Wifi Access Point (Optional script to sniff login details)

Wasn't sure where to put this, thought it might be of interest to someone in here :) As a project, I set up my Raspberry Pi as a 3g internet Wireless AP to strip SSL from secure websites and harvest the login details. I wanted to show how easy it would be for someone to set up wireless AP providing free internet, with the equipment hidden - maybe in a backpack - and sit in a public place grabbing login details without anyone suspecting a thing. In the future I would like to do this while running the Pi from a battery bank. Guide to set up Raspberry Pi as a 3g Wireless AP Tutorial on writing BASH script to harvest login details

Internet connection in Greece?

I'm in a family thats just bought a house on an island in Greece for use in the sommer. We would like to be able to connect to the internet from there, but we don't speak their language and don't know where to start looking? Is it possible to get some sort of 3g subscription, which you can pay for as u use it, or would it be better to get a cable let out? Any ideas?

Top iPhone Instructables

Apple has released the new iPhone--and there are Instructables to make it better. Check out these iPhone-related Instructables, some of our favorites, that can make your iPhone better prepared for everyday use. Retractable Headphones Headphones are always getting tangled up in knots, but these recoiling headphones will keep the wires conveniently curled up and ready to use. &nbsp Business Card Stand Using just a business card, you can make this simple stand on which you can watch movies or just let your iPhone rest. Handgun Handset By talking into the grip, listening through the barrel, and starting and finishing your calls with a pull of the trigger of this modified airsoft gun, your iPhone calls will never be the same again. If you get trigger-happy, though, you might end up with a bunch of dropped calls. Book Safe As long as you don't choose a piece of classic literature, you can safely conceal your iPhone inside of a book with this design. Car Stand You don't want to be talking on your phone while you're driving, but this car stand will keep the iPhone in a convenient position for music and other purposes during car trips. One-Hand Use A simple loop attached to the back of the iPhone can make one-handed iPhone-ing simple and secure. And these are just a few--there are plenty more great iPhone Instructables to use!

Amazon Kindle (UK) question

I am toying with the idea of getting an ebook reader, mainly for reading downloaded books such.  Apparently the Kindle can show ordinary PDF files quite successfully, and is quite a reasonable price. I have a question, though, that Amazon haven't answered clearly - what web sites can it access? The Kindle has wifi, and there's a version with (free) 3G connectivity for downloading books.  But, what websites will it access?  Could I visit any website at all (such as Gutenberg Press, or even Instructables), or is it restricted to visiting Amazon's own ebook store?  Would it be capable of accessing an email account?  I can't get a straight answer (although I suspect the answer is that access is restricted, since access to Wikipedia is presented as a specific feature). According to Amazon's 3G coverage map, There is a decent signal where I live, where I work, and where my parents live.  If I can visit whatever sites I like, the extra £40 for 3G would be worth it.  If I can only visit "approved" sites, then I would stick to the wifi version and load up books by USB.

How can I attatch an external antenna to my HSDPA netbook, without soldering wires to the internal antenna?

Just gota new netbook (Advent 4213) that has built in HSDPA (ie, a sim card slot for mobile internet). My problem is that where I work there is a very weak signal - I've looked at a couple of antennas, but there's no socket in the netbook to plug one in! The inbuilt antenna is on the bottom. Can anyone recommend a way to non-permanently attatch something, like velcro, etc, to boost the signal? It's just info on what sort of connection I could use. Thanks in advance!

Will I still have 3G access if I buy a used Kindle? Answered

It seems like such a simple question, but I can't seem to find a clear answer. I seem to recall reading a while back that the 3G access was tied to the account, not the Kindle, so if you bought a used one the subscription wouldn't transfer. Other places seem to suggest that you have to somehow transfer its registration with Amazon. Amazon doesn't have any answers, they want you to buy a new one. And yes, I know not all Kindles are built for 3G access, let's assume that I'm getting one that is.

I think I can unlock it with https://www.dc-unlocker.com but I wondered what else I migh be able to repurpose it into? Could I stream media to it via a USB enabled TV? Any suggestions for projects welcome. Steve

How do you jailbreak an iPhone 3g, software version 2.2.1, with QuickPwn?

I've followed the steps that pretty much every online guide is saying, so please do not refer me to one of those. The QuickPwn screen says, "It appears to be successful," after my attempt at it, and my iPhone does a bit of configuring like normal, then when it gets to the time to reboot, it shuts off, then freezes at the start-up screen. It vibrates every once in a while, and eventually times itself out and tries again. This is about my 5th time trying it over 2 days. It worked once, the second time, but I had not restored it from a back up- it was just set up after you connect it to restore mode then restore it with the computer. That just means it was like brand new, out of the box with nothing on it.

Fixing a broken headphone port? (iPod touch 3g)? Answered

I've had an ipod touch for a little over a year now and the left headphone output is no longer audible.  I believe that it is due to a loose or slightly bent contact inside of my iPod, because if i wiggle my headphone connector in the iPod's female audio jack the left side audio will turn on and off.  I have contacted Apple about the iPod (no longer under warranty) and have been told that the cases for iPod touches are crimped together, and so there is no way for them to open the iPod and replace the port.          Any suggestions as to how i could fix my problem? I've been thinking of using a dental tool to pull the contact that is causing me issues outwards, but decided i would ask around before potentially worsening my port. Thanks! -Geo

homemade signal booster? Answered

I was trying to figure out how to boast my signal coverage in my area, and a got an idea: to use a UHF amplifier, to pick up the towers signal and rebroadcast it. of coarse since things like WiFi, Bluetooth, and cellular 2G/3G/4G networks use two way radio, the signal can go back to the reviving end of the UHF amp, and get broadcasting to hit whatever tower. my phone should better recognize the tower, as if i just magically made a tower 2 feet away. however this might also amplify stay noise. if this idea doesn't work, why not? i think i am going to need at least a 20dB increase in power, but as of now i  need to do more research. but if i can buy a product that does a similar thing for less than $40, i would. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_zone_(cell_phone)#Dead_zones  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Repeater http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_spectrum (cellphones use UHF spectrum) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Signal_booster
