UMP-45 K'NEX gun review

This gun has found its way into the favorites of many members. This review should answer the question: Should I build it?SPECSPower: 10 out of 10 Why? It went through paper at 5 feet, got stuck in cardboard at about 5. Looks: 9 out of 10 Why? Looks EXACTLY like a UMP-45. Well, with the wire stock, it does.Ergonomics: 7.5 out of 10 Why? Feels...odd to hold.Innovative...ness: 9 out of 10 Why? Pretty much everything is new, but...y'know.Accuracy/Sights: 8.5 out of 10 Why? New sights! They...are...awesome. But, the 'bullet' veers. Oh, WELL.Magazine: 8.7 out of 10 Why? Well, it's good for the most part. Never ever jams. But if you press directly in on the mag switch(the white rod) it messes it all up. So you have to push down and in. It's also not a very good connection; a few bumps will break it off, turning the magazine into a shotgun shell, loaded with gray shot.NEW! Rail system: 7.5 out of 10 Why? The connections go AROUND the connectors, not in them. So that makes it kinda flimsy.Piece consumption: 7.5 out of 10 Why? This doesn't use TOO too(I meant to have 2 toos) many of your pieces, but you might not be able to build anything too big for a little while. Stocks:(We'll examine BOTH stocks.) WIRE STOCK: 9 out of 10 Why? Looks better, but kinda flimsy. Not REALLY, though. FULL STOCK: 9.5 out of 10 Why? Sacrifices looks for strength."Toy" parts(the charging handle was the only one I could really find)7 out of 10 Why? So...FUN!! to just slide back and forth. Pointless, but cool to have. Like a laser cannon.War Weapon: 9.5 out of 10 Why? Let's just say it'll have 'em beat. If they've already built this, they'll probably run out of sheer terror like bunnies. (?)Overall: 9.3 out of 10. Why? Do you really need a Why? for this?Great gun. I recommend it to any H&K(drools) fans, or if you just want something cool.TheDunkis scores again.

Alright I'm going to act noobish today by mentioning a gun I made without posting a picture =P Sorry I was planning on taking a few but I found out the camera was completely out of battery and I can't find the charger! I'll make sure to get one by tomorrow or hopefully later tonight. Anyways I finally made another replica while the XM8 is waiting to be finished. I always planned on making a UMP but never got to it until now. I figured I had to keep up with trauts. I guess you could call this the Tommy equivalent. I'm not completely finished yet as I ran out of green rods. It features a bottom rail for a fore handle attachment and a top rail for custom sights. My favorite part though is the slanted, removable magazine for grey connectors. You can preload magazines to make reloading the gun fast. Then you just push in and pull back out a part on the gun to unlock the magazine. Sorry it doesn't have a folding stock and I don't have plans for making one. Someone else could try. Alrighty I grabbed a couple pictures quickly. It's not finished yet but how is it so far? I'm going to add a better handle and fix up the stock along with giving it a proper rear sight and lengthening the magazine. Check the simple removable magazine. Nothing complex just fitting pieces together in such a way that worked perfectly for the situation.Edit: Mkay I took a picture of the updated version. All of the updates include an extended magazine, slightly changed muzzle to give it a more rounder appearance, new sites (utilizes mini knex for precision), a fake charging handle, full stock, and finally a new handle and trigger guard. I still don't care for them so I'll change them before it's posted. It turns out that I'm not half bad at making stocks after all lol.

Dunkis UMP-45 Video Review

Video for the gun. -8/10, a little flimsy, but quite comfortableStock - 8/10, strong, fits the look of the gun and feels niceGrip - 8/10, feels nice, although for someone with longer arms like me it feels a little awkwardMagazine - 10/10, it never jams, has a nice touch, looks sweet and is stableBarrel - 8/10, not long = little frictionPerformance - Range - 8/10, shoots quite far and fast for a magazine gunPower - 8/10, very powerful with little bands because of the low friction barrelAccuracy - 9/10, for me it is very accurate, but it does shoot a little to the left.Overall - 8.4 A very good rifle, everyone who has the pieces should build it.

UMP-45 Redo

Alright so I was getting frustrated with my shotgun concept. Someone else can perfect it. I decided that after being asked if my old UMP-45 was worth building that it could probably use a tune up. So here's the new one. It's very similar to my old one but there are two main differences. First off, the barrel is longer. My old one was probably a tad too short. I have a feeling this one is too long but you can't really make one in between without getting complicated and it's pretty comfortable this way. The second main change is the barrel and firing pin. I used a hybrid type barrel using both a rod and connector barrel so that the ammo can fit through but so that the pin won't wobble. The firing pin uses the concept from my shotgun to be like a charging handle. It's a little further back but this was so the pin wouldn't fly out and I didn't want to move the trigger up + back barrel up. Sorry, I didn't bother taking a picture of the stock. I just made a quick, crude wire stock because I didn't have the pieces to make the full one from last time. I was hoping someone else would be able to take the gun and add a folding stock for me. I'm still working on the handle and thinking about changing the trigger guard because it'll get in the way of the trigger unless you hold it down. Finally I have to test the reliability of this gun. After all that, I'll post it. I'll get a video tomorrow if I get the chance. I might be going out of town though.

ATtiny85 memory and ATtiny2313 memory?

Ok I just looked at the datasheets for my ATtiny85 and my recently bought ATtiny2313. The 2313 has 20 pins, and the 85 has 8. What I don't get is the ATtiny85 has 8000 bytes of memory and the ATtiny2313 only as 2000 bytes of memory!!? Why does the ATtiny85 have significantly more memory and it's only 1/3 the size of the ATtiny2313? I know this sounds silly but why? How can I find other chips like ATtiny2313 but with more memory? Thanks!

Buried at 45 degrees...

As I type, Sir Jimmy Saville is lying in "state" in a golden* coffin in a Leeds hotel. According to his wishes, he will be buried at an angle of 45 in Scarborough, "so that he see the sea". What odd burial wishes do you have? Mine are simple - a cardboard box under an oak or horse-chestnut sapling. BBC Story. Just in case you don't know who Sir Jimmy was. *Golden, but not gold.

What can I do with warm (45 degC) air?

The exhaust vent shoots air out at 45 degC - other than blowing bright paper windmills with it, are there any suggestions what I can do the warm air, given that it is Summer and I don't particularly want to vent it into another room - I did think about my greenhouse - any others ideas?

UMP 45 review

Cheers to TheDunkis for posting this amazing UMP 45. Here is mine, in (almost) all mettalic pieces. I did change some things on the gun, all for different reasons. Change #1 - Bottom rail. Only so the foregrip could be stronger. #2 - Front sight. I do not have any mini pieces like TheDunkis. #3 - I used CuddesMcT's magazine with an internal mag pusher. #4 - Trigger guard. TheDunkis's trigger guard was very wobbly so i made my own with a bendy blue rod and a broken green connector. #5 - Rear sight. Once again, I do not have any mini K'nex pieces. #6 - Ramrod. I found the ramrod hard to pull back and tough to get to so i swapped it with one of my own. Notice that I also removed the top of the stock, for the same reason. I added multiple yellow connectors to where the ramrod ends, which are only neccesary for use with my ramrod. #7 - Handle. The handle was wobbly, which TheDunkis does state in his instructable, so I rigged it so that the handle connects to the stock. Overall, this is a wonderful gun which is very realistic, except for the full stock which is not true to the UMP 45. I am not going to say specific stats, but the range was good, power okay, and accuracy good. Click here for the link to his instructable.

Suggested max time for running a RadioShack 45-Watt Desoldering Iron?

After using my desoldering iron for approximately 1-2 hours I had melted the tip, rendering it useless. I have since gotten replacement tips. I do also want to add that the desoldering iron and tip were brand new, just out of the pack, and yes, I was using it correctly  =)  But is their a suggested maximum amount of time someone should use the iron to avoid this?

Theme Park Holiday Light Effect

Hi, I work for a small theme park. A third party company built one of our new holiday displays.  It consists of 45 large 'ornaments ', each lit with an AC bulb. I've been asked to provide a way to control each one independently and create a pattern which will repeat.  Sometimes only one bulb is lit and sometimes up to 7 are on at the same time.  The problem is I'm looking at 45 AC plugs!  My thinking is to buy 45 solid state relays. Then can I hook them up to an Ardiuno? I know very little about Ardionos. Which model and how many? I would truly appreciate it if someone could help me get started. Thank you

How to lower the DC voltage of a transformer. Answered

Hi, at last i have got a 45-0-45 transformer @5amps, but now i have a problem, the VDC output i am getting is 74vdc but my 400watt rms mono amp's maximum input VDC is 56vdc, so i don't think its a good idea to feed the 74vdc, so is there a way to lower the 74vdc, BTW please don't advice me to unwind the secondary coil because i am new to electronics and the transformer didn't come cheap, so i don't want to break it. i am using IN4007 diode and 4700uF 63V cap for the bridge rectifier. I just forgot to give some details on this topic. The transformer is to use with the 400watt rms mono amp. The amp has 8 MOSFETS side by side, 4 IRFP9240 and 4 IRFP240 and 6 transistors. BTW the transformer shows 45-0-45 VAC but when i test with a multimeter, the VAC is 53volts. Thank you. Regards.

I've been cruising the site for any knex pistols that either are a 1911, or look like one. So far, I haven't found any. So, I thought I'd post a topic for it and see if anyone had any ideas, or if anyone wanted to make one, ore do a joined project (shared credit). I'll be making my own to, but I could use some input. Tell me what you guys think.
