Bending 3/4" plywood into right angles with a 4" bend radius

I have an idea for a stylized plywood coffee table that is all made from a single board of 3/4" Baltic Birch plywood. I've attached a .jpg of a coffee table base-design to this email.  The bends on either side are 4 inch radius bends. Although I have basically no experience bending plywood, I sincerely doubt 3/4 inch plywood is going to bend into right angles at a 4 inch radius. I may be wrong, but if it is possible, I do not know how to do it, and certainly do not have the equipment. I've seen on the internet very flexible sheets of plywood, but wouldn't that just get glued into position and then just collapse once un-molded? I can't believe that I am the only person who wants to do something like this. Any input?

how do i bend pvc pipe without getting the "no-longer-hollow" pinched look?

I want to bend my pvc pipe into a circle without compromising the inside shape. I have tried to do this but it continues to pinch where i want the round to be.  I have tried putting sand inside but perhaps i did something wrong because it didn't work.

Wire bending jigs, does anybody remember some???

I need to make some springs for a recliner. They are the ones that support your back. They look like a sine wave. I have 1/8 inch piano wire, however it is really tough to get bent into the correct shape without a jig. Does anyone out there remember seeing a bending jig on Instructables that had various diameters of bends, etc? The only one I can find is associated with making a NAROD antenna. The piano wire is a lot tougher than the copper used for the antenna. Thanks for any help...

Circuit Bending Workshop at Discovery World (Milwaukee, WI)

Circuit Bending is the art of rewiring and short-circuiting a device to create entirely new sonic possibilities. In a DIY interactive lab environment, learn the basics of electronics by reverse engineering old toys such as the Speak and Spell and other gadgets. Bring an old toy or instrument (check your local thrift store for anything with buttons and a speaker). Then dismantle, adding switches and knobs to create new from the old; this is electronics recycling at its finest. We will be offering two classes in September in October: 1: Intro to Circuit Bending Wednesday | Sept 23 | 6:30 - 9pm $25 Members & MIAD students | $35 Non-Members In this interactive crash course we'll cover the equipment, tools, and techniques needed to start you on your own bending adventure. 2: Circuit Bending Workshop Wednesday | Two-Part Series - Sept 30 & Oct 7 | 6:30-9pm $55 Members & MIAD students | $65 Non-Members In a comprehensive two-part series, participants explore the process of turning toys into noise instruments. We'll cover everything from basic bending and probing techniques to creating noise instruments with knobs, body contacts, photo sensors, and amplifier outputs. CALL (414) 765-8625 FOR RESERVATIONS. Workshops will be held in Discovery World's Electronic Lab, with a maximum class size of 15. What you need to bring: Something to bend- basically anything with buttons and a speaker that runs on batteries (old toys like the Speak and Math and Furby, older Casio keyboards are very bend friendly, guitar effects pedals can be drastically altered), and fresh batteries for your device. Due to the nature of circuit bending there is a high probability of damaging a device beyond repair. If it is valuable to you, don't take it apart! Equipment and beverages (beer for 21+) will be provided, as well as a limited number of toys to bend. Feel free to reply to this post if you have any questions, or e-mail

Wire bending machine or jig for small scale / jewelry findings

So the DIwire looks exciting, but the more I examples I see, I notice it's a bit "low res". I'm wondering if there's a smaller scale solution either electronic or mechanical for jewellery production purposes. I would like to find a way to produce non-standard, custom jewelry findings. Is there a high quality, customisable jig on the market? I want to avoid the inaccuracy of hand bending findings... Also, has anyone come across a concise book on the topic of well designed, innovative or commercial jewelry findings? All I can seem to find is a bunch of ugly "craft" or DIY style books. I'm more interested in having a large collection of finding examples at hand than a book of just 12 DIY walkthroughs. Thanks!

How can I morph a nearly 1/4 " aluminum disk into a cone? Answered

Attached is a crude Paint drawing of what I am after (the cone doesn't have to have  that much of a "throat" on it, I just need it to be slightly funnel shaped. I need to do this without "firing up" or heating the metal, and hopefully without marring the surface very much. Any ideas?

It is not advisable to copy the activities shown in this video.

The Modified Toy Orchestra have a philosophy of performing everything live with a collection of re-purposed children’s toys.., converting abandoned playthings into exotic new musical instruments, and then exploring the latent potential and surplus value inherent in these liberated circuits. Guided by this hidden world they seek to make a form of music devoid of personal narrative or autobiography, instead they ask bigger questions about our relationship with “the next new gadget” the desire for the constant upgrade, and the possibilities for problem solutions hidden from our gaze by perceptual habit. The result of this on going investigation has been called cinematic, dark, joyful and life affirming. It is rare to hear an electronic live performance that has no midi, no sampling, no synthesizers, no laptops, in fact no conventional instruments of any kind. MTO have live dates coming up: 8th September at Birmingham Town Hall 10th September at Manchester Bridgewater Hall Hey, what about the title of the topic? Oh, that's from the band's appearance on the BBC website.  After all, these AA batteries are dangerous... Freeno & Olaf from Modified Toy Orchestra on Vimeo.

I want to replace or alter the crystal oscillator on my UNO as part of a electronics suicide workshop

I want to replace or alter the crystal oscillator on my UNO as part of a electronics suicide workshop, look at it as circuit bending i guess. I want to know approximately what could happen- is it going to run a simple standalone program, I think serial and flashing will not be possible  post-lobotomy but i can load the program before i bend it. The processing speed will be the same but any Millis() or clock functions will be way out? Will it just trip over its own feet and crash? I have heard interesting things about using your finger over the solder spots to make it run at 60Hz etc...Anyway i will experiment but i wanted to get some predictions from people who know this stuff at a more fundamental level! Cheers!!

Rings of Light: Bending u-channel stock

Hello! I'm trying to make rings of brass with a channel/groove on the inside to fit LED strips into. I want the LEDs lining the inside of the brass rings to illuminate the center, but I want them hidden from view for aesthetic reasons. I'm trying to get 7 different rings, varying in diameter from about 7" to 2'. I can't figure out the best way to do this though. Here are some possibilities I've come up with, and I would love your thoughts on their feasibility, how I might tweak them for better effectiveness, or if you all have other ideas that might work better! 1) Bend U-channel stock in a tube bender. Would this deform the u-channel, though, and can rectangular stock go through a bender? 2) Mill a small trench shallower than a standard u-channel into bar stock, then bend it. See concerns in #1. 3) Somehow mill a channel into bar stock once it's already bent..? 4) Bend hollow tubing into a ring, then use a cutting disc or bit on a dremel to cut an opening on the inside, and snake the LED strip through the tubing. 5) Bend hollow tubing into a ring, then drill out holes at the interval of the LED lights, and snake the LED strip through the tubing. Thanks so much for your thoughts, feedback and help! :)

I'm starting to get into circuit bending, and what I think I'll do first is make a control panel, just cause I like things to be reusable, finished looking, and in the long run it'll cost less. I have on question, what's an ideal potentiometer value for general circuit bending, cause i found a good deal on 20k, but before spending money I would like to know if it's what i want.

How do I bend elect. conduit?

I have a 5" radius 1/2" emt bender and 100' of 1/2" emt. I need to make three bends in each piece, 1- 90 degree in the middle and 1-45 degree bend on each side of the 90. Here's my problem: I need the "legs" (sides - picture a doghouse with a 90 deg peak and straight up and down sides) to be exactly 27" apart INSIDE measurement. Now, where do I make my marks on the pipe and what direction do I bend (facing the 90 or facing away from the 90)? I need these measurements to be precise so I can make all ten pieces of pipe the same. How 'bout you Journeyman Electricians? Anybody. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

How to bend plastic optic fiber ?

Hi, I have 0.75, 1 and 1.5mm plastic opic fiber that I am using for my project (which will be the topic of my first instructables ;) ) I need a way to bend the POF in right angle. I don't care if the bending raidus is not very important (spec says max radius is 10 time diameter, 15mm radius is ok for me, and I don't care if I loose a little brightness). I want the POF to stay bend after I have bent it : it must keep the curve I gave it for at least 24 hours. I manage doing something not so bade (but really time consuming) by heating the POF with an hair dryer. I wander if anybody has a better tested idea ? (in the meantime, I'll try putin it in boiling water to see if it kep the shape once cooled). Regards, tReg.
