Yet another ZKAR issue.

Here's another issue that I feel needs to be solved on the ZKAR.  Sometimes the pusher forces 2 rounds together side by side in the mag, which causes a jam.  This is caused by expanding mag walls, are there any fixes for this?

ZKAR V2 Mod-Fixes rapid fire problem

Hopefully you can see what this is. Replace the borken Y-clip with a grey connector. remove the blue rod and the grey connector in the gun already to make this fit. This new bullet lock fixes the rapid fire problem with the zkar V2.

How many green rods does the ZKAR v2 need? Answered

Berkin sent me a lot of knex, so I thought I would try to build the ZKAR again.  He sent me so much that I think I can build both the ZKAR and my AR-4 v3 at the same time. Ok, so I changed the question because nobody would give me a green rod count.  Somebody answer please.

How can I make the firing pin on the ZKAR not break? Answered

The ZKAR v2 has a darn little habit of breaking my firing pins.  Every 100 shots or so, the part that holds the rubberbands breaks off, and I eventually find out that the gray connectors on the firing pin have split down the middle.  It has already broken one of my balljoints, and it still breaks even though I use duct tape.   What should I do?

ZKAR problems. Any fixes?

Ok, so I've noticed an issue with the ZKAR (Both the breech loading and normal versions).  If I push the bolt forward too fast, it results in the round being loaded too far up the barrel, where the pin can't hit it and thus can't shoot it out of the gun.  Sometimes the round even sticks out of the gun.  A side effect of this issue is that the pin guide connection breaks when the gun is shot because at this point the failed shot is treated as a dry fire. Any fixes?

AR-4 v3 VS ZKAR V2 Round 2 (Personal experience)

After reading knexgeek's review, I decided to build the ZKAR to see what my AR-4 was being compared against.  I can't do a side-by-side comparison because I ran out of green rods.  Anyways, Here are the advantages of both guns over the other. ZKAR advantages over AR-4 v3: -ROF -Size (smaller, but weirdly uses more parts than the AR-4) -Comfort -Better trigger -Yes, I guess it does have a nice, clean design AR-4 v3 advantages over ZKAR: -Range (gets a slightly better range than ZKAR with an equal amount of bands, around 5 feet better) -Reload (While you can easily slip rods in at regular intervals on the AR-4, I find it a bit difficult to keep the ammo in before I put the pusher in on the ZKAR) -Sturdier than ZKAR (I find that some parts on the ZKAR break after heavy use, while the AR-4 v3 is just fine) -Farther pin pull Now both guns have their flaws, Let's just list some of them: ZKAR flaws: - The back wall on the mag closest to the trigger can break off.  However, it's a good note that the bolt always touches that back wall so I guess it evens out.  It has only broken once when test firing. - If you somehow pull the bolt back and push it forward twice, you find that it can jam and it's a pain to get it fixed. - Sometimes the bolt breaks.  However, to be fair, it only broke during ROF tests. AR-4 v3 flaws: - Can't be loaded upside down (I don't see this as a major problem, and you can shoot the gun upside down, but idunno why you would wanna) - Sometimes the bolt doesn't go into the chamber without "Help", but then you can just stick your finger in. - A few times, the ammo completely misses the bullet lock.  This is rare though. So I guess that's my comparison.  I do like the ZKAR and it does live up to it's rep, but I think it's all an even playing field with each gun having it's own uses on the field. While I'm at it, here's a ZKAR v2 review (I know there is another ZKAR review, but that was for the first version) Body structure: Stock: 9/10.  Why: very sturdy and comfy Handle: 7/10 Why: Sometimes pinches your hand Trigger: 10/10 Why: Very sturdy and original Body: 9/10 Why: sturdy, but a bit hard to build Mag: 7/10 Why: Small chance that the rear mag wall will break off (that has only happened once to be fair) Bolt: 7/10 Why: Works, but the bottom part that pushes the ammo up to the barrel can break after heavy use. Overall: 8.1/10 Performance: Range: 9/10  Why: 55-60 feet with 2 bands Accuracy: 8/10 Why: Accurate at close quarters, not so much at longer ranges Power: 8/10 Why: puts huge dents in cardboard Reliability: 7/10 Why: Sometimes the bolt catches on the ammo being loaded up in the barrel and causes jams.  This is rare and has only happened to me twice.  Everything else is fine. Overall: 8/10 Final score: 8.1/10 Nice gun zak!

TR8, NAR, and the ZKAR

Hey guys, It has been some time since I posted a new forum topic, but I am not here to ramble about time lapses. I want to know where I can find instructions on how to build the TR8. I plan on doing an 'ible that features the TR8, the NAR, and the ZKAR, so that I can have said that I built them, and so that I can see for myself weather they are all what they are made out to be. I understand that the NAR is essentially a mod to the TR, so I want to build a TR8, so that I can build the NAR. Help please! -The Red Book of Westmarch

Is there a parts list for the zkar v2?

I was wanting to make one, but with working on an untangle and having another gun, i was wondering if i had enough of everything, especially green rods and white connectors, though i have o ton of the blue connectors, so in some cases i can use those. Then i was wanting to make the zaktangle or zkar v3, whatever they are calling it, and was wondering if anyone other than mepain had made it, and if there was anything more than the video, like pictures. I can tell a different stock, and a slightly different front so that the mag is removable, but its moving around a lot in the video, and when i pause it, it gets blurry. If i built it, I could probably figure out some way, but it would save me some trouble to just to build it like that with some pictures.

Knex BCS4FE

Hello knexers of instructables! I present the final edition of the BCS shotgun. I am showing you guys this gun because it was one of the best sidearms ive made.  Pros: Very Powerful Good range 30-40 ft Very sturdy Easy to use Reliable Accurate Cons: Trigger can act funky Will not fire on one trigger pull sometimes Ammo will almost always explode in the barrel when inserted the wrong way *ammo is a white rod and orange connector* Credit goes to Zak for the trigger.

AR4-v3 VS ZKAR

I wanted to do a little thing on to see which gun is better AR4-v3 or the ZKAR? AR4-v3 advantages: The AR4 is a good gun, so I'll point out the advantages of it. This gun is jam free, has very good range (52 feet), has some good looks, easy to load, no cut parts, powerful, doesn't use that much pieces, nicely designed, good for sniping, comfortable, would be great for a war, and is very light to carry. AR4-v3 disadvantages: Every knex gun isn't perfect so I'll point out some disadvantages of this gun. The sights are not accurate and has a original trigger system. i couldn't think of any other disadvantages, point out any more out to me if you can. ZKAR v2 advantages: This gun is light to carry, has awesome range (40-50), good for a knex war, fast loading, accurate sights, powerful, uses few pieces, no cut parts, jam free, comfortable, good trigger system, and very well designed. ZKAR v2 disadvantages: of course again, not all knex guns are perfect not that new of a trigger design, and has cut parts. overall both guns are really good for the ar4 better for sniping, for the zkar better for closer range. The gun I would have for a war is *drum roll starts playing* the.........................ZKAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! congratulations that gun just won one million dollars (not really). also the reason why i chose this gun is because it holds more ammo than the ar4, this gun also has a nice design, very neat on how it works, and is one of the best guns for a war is what i think REMEMBER TO COMMENT, RATE, AND SUBSCRIBE

Knex War?

Hey guys! Sharir1701 here and, as most of you guys that knew me back when I was still around probably know, I've lost most of my interest in Knex. I do, however still come on the site ever so often to browse, comment and so on. I've noticed during my past couple of visits that there seems to be a "war", so to speak, raging on between some members of the community, regarding the effect of bulldozing a gun with rubber bands, as well as "how good" is the NAR. In this forum I am assuming you all have basic knowledge in Knex gun technology, are familiar with the stated guns and have a little bit of background in mechanical engineering. Moving on. You might know my opinion about the subject already, but I would like to state it once more as well as explain it better, so perhaps some people that disagree with me could understand my point of view. BUT, before I do that, I can't help but feel guilty for tossing the long burning logs into a small fire. About a month or two ago, in one of my visits, I posted a comment on one of Red's topics (or 'ibles, strike me dead for my memory) about my quite specific opinion about each and every one of the three guns in question in the said topic, the ZKAR, the NAR and the TR8. I said a few things about rubber bands and brute force vs. complexion and efficiency, and I may have started something unintentionally. That argument has been around since, if I recall correctly, 2009, but it hasn't been brought up again in a while. I feel like I made that happen and then I enraged a few more people by saying that "efficiency and good design beats brute force any day" (or something like that...). I'm not taking credit for starting this thing again, but rather I'm apologizing for sparking up an old and possibly pointless argument. Nonetheless, I will now explain my opinion on the subject and hopefully nobody gets mad at me for doing so, but if you have a valid counter argument, please state it below in an understandable and polite way. Thank you. If so, then, what is this whole thing even about? The "KI Crew", as I like to call them, have been very proud of their NAR and TR-n series guns for a few years now. The TR series I'll admit is very good, but I don't accept the "add as many rubber bands as possible" argument. Now, the NAR, personally, I dislike the gun. I have had nothing but bad range tests with it in the 3 times throughout the past 4 years that I've built it, and I've heard similar results from several people and some close friends. I highly doubt I was doing something wrong all THREE times, so don't bother to bring that up, please. The NAR is a gun designed for nothing else but being capable of withstanding great amounts of force and shooting a single round "the strongest a pin gun can shoot". How? Very simple - make a massively dense and very shock-proof body and then just add as many rubber bands as you can before your hands start bleeding. Now, let me explain, I'm saying 2 points here. First, the NAR is nothing special, just a strong structure with a simple connector barrel and a reinforced pin. We've seen it before, people. The claim that it's a good gun simply because you can put on as many bands as you want, pretty much, is, in my eyes, invalid. So I can make a bomb and just put as much explosives on it as I can afford, surely it'll be better than an atomic bomb... WRONG. It won't. Theoretically, even if it makes a bigger bang, it takes so much effort and it is so non-elegant that it loses it's point within itself. (Do not take this metaphor out of hand! You know what I mean). Second, and more importantly, I'm claiming that even if my first claim is wrong, if you look at the technical side of things you'll see that the very premise that adding more and more rubber bands to a gun will make it much stronger, is wrong in it's origins. I'm sure we all know this, but let me remind us all the physics of how a basic pin gun works. When the potential energy stored in the strained rubber bands, and rested on the cocked pin, is released, it accelerates the pin. The pin then proceeds to gain speed and it reaches three main milestones:  The initial strike of the bullet (The pin is already accelerated and is just touching the bullet, but the bullet is still). The point of equality, as I've dubbed it before (Just a few tiny fractions of a second after the initial strike, at this point the pin is ever so slightly slower than it was in the initial strike, but the bullet is now travelling at an equal speed as the pin, with a tiny gap between the two, meaning they aren't actually touching at this point) And finally, "the crash" (the bullet has left the barrel, the pin is at it's highest speed and is the most energetic as it pointlessly crashes into the back of the barrel losing and wasting all of it's remaining energy). In a world where you could use 100% of the acceleration of the pin and transfer it all into the bullet, adding more bands would indeed make a much stronger gun. BUT, that is impossible, in fact, it's no where near that. To put it all into a short sentence, the bullet accelerates and fires with a fraction of the energy released during the shot and to a certain limit, it is almost exactly the same amount of energy after a certain point. So, let's talk Maths. There is a direct correlation between the number of rubber bands on a gun and the amount of acceleration (and force) in the pin when fired. The pin's acceleration as a function of the number of rubber bands on the gun is in the order of magnitude of y=x. That's true, and that is where the misguided claim in question comes from. However, if we take a look at the graph of a bullet's acceleration as a function of the number of rubber bands on the gun, we can conclude, according to the above explanation, that the function is in the order of magnitude of y=sqrt(x). That means that up to a certain pivot, which I claim is, on average, around the 2-3 rubber band mark, adding more rubber bands does in fact produce a drastically stronger shot, but past that point, adding more rubber bands adds more brute force, yes, but it makes the shot stronger only just slightly, and by an increasingly smaller amount the more bands you put on it. BUT, and this is the big BUUT, the graph of the force required to cock the gun as a function of the number of bands on the gun is, again, in an order of magnitude of y=x. In conclusion, up to a certain, quite low point, adding more rubber bands will give you a drastically stronger shot without stressing the gun too much and without making the pull incredibly hard. However, past that point, adding more rubber bands adds an insignificant amount of power to the gun while introducing a whole lot more difficulty in operating it, resulting in an overall, worse gun. That is why I claim that a gun built around the sole concept of being capable to handle a lot of rubber bands is a nice concept, but is much worse than a gun built around efficiency (meaning you try to invest as much of the potential energy of the pin into the bullet by making a more efficient layout and a smarter usage of the forces in play). If you got this far, thank you for reading my article, and I hope this will put an end to this silly argument, but knowing how people's feelings work and how male ego and testosterone works, I bet it's far from it. Happy Knexing everybody ;)

So what Knex gun should I build next?

I have built the ZKAR v2 before, it really was a magnificent gun. Played quite a few wars with it and I beated the entire neighbourhood and their El Diablo's and Turret Pistols. It was my trusty gun and we have been through quite a lot. Now it is time for me to say goodbye to my beloved ZKAR w\scope, and to step up. The ZKAR v2 was great, but now it does all weird things. It breaks down very often and such. The bolt often jams and the trigger doesn't work quite properly either, but that's more because it is a really old gun. I've been using it for almost a year now if not more then a year. It is time for me to use something else. Only one question remains. What should I use? I need a Knex gun that can either beat or outclass the ZKAR v2. That means reliability is key, yet any kinds of fancy guns would still be nice. I am already thinking something like swagboss or D-TAB. Anyone has any suggestions? Preferably no TR-18. I can't stand turrets, they always have problems with me.

knex real pump action shotgun

I was looking around and I found this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qa5SXX9TNW8 My question is, are there any knex guns that use a similar mech as this? Shots are loaded from the bottom chamber and the pump reloads a shot. like the zkar v2 only pump action. It doesn't have to look this realistic obviously. Now I want to buy a bunch of black legos. :)

ZKAR Review and Mods

So I recently built the ZKAR V2 by Zak on KI. Direct link: http://knexinnovation.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=711 My mods: Safety Comfort in the front Pusher mod What to expect with above mods: (out of 10(ratings not in parentheses are with above mods and ratings in parentheses are with out above mods)): Looks: 9 (8) - Could do without the trigger piece on the top of the gun. Comfort: 8 (7) - I have not modded the handle, and the pin guide is kind of in the way of sighting. Ease of Use: 10 (9) - All you need to do is pull then push the bolt(with the exception of going slower than usual) and loading the mag is very easy. Coolness: 10 (9) - True bolt action, safety, and stupendous power and accuracy. Will "blow" your freinds away! Piece consumption: 8 (8) - Uses quite a few pieces, and before DJ Radio got a shipment of knex, he couldn't build it. *Note: These next three are with 1 big, red rubberband(about 3/4 a centimeter wide) from a slingshot kit* Power: 8 (8) - From thirty feet away, my sister said she could feel a slight sting for a second. Could be better, but still very good. And, can penetrate cardboard from 25 feet. Accuracy: 8 (8) - 38 feet Range: 9 (9) - flat-45 feet angled-70 feet Overall: 70 out of 80 Average rating: 8.5 Great as a... Primary rifle: 8 - Could be a little better, but it is very cool. Secondary: 5 - very bulky and large piece amount. Just a fun gun to play with: 10 - Very fun. If you would like me to P0$T the safety and comfort mod, just let me know.

Although, now since I got my first Airsoft rifle, I'm probably going to cut back on the guns. :-P

Anyone know how to make a Knex Semi Auto trigger lock system?

Well I've been looking around, and I've got to say, I'm not the best Knex builder around. here's the deal. I've been trying to make a bolt-action/ semi-auto Knex gun for some time, and I just can't seem to get the Trigger mechanism to work. I want a trigger system like http://knexinnovation.net/showthread.php?542-Zak-s-Bolt-Action-ZKAR-Follow-Up just like ZKAR's gun or some other gun with a real trigger. U see I need a trigger to make sure the firing pin doesn't go off (duh) so is there anyone out there that would be able to make an instructable about making a trigger? mind the fact ONLY the trigger not the rest of the gun. but beggars can't be choosers so yeh XD. I just need a good instrutable explaining how the trigger works and how to make one. I use like the first Generation Knex set, the set that still has the chains (FYI) so I might not have all the pieces. but heck! I have all the standard ones. THANKS PEOPLE!

RTR

Hey guys, This is a transfer rifle that I made a few days back. It outwardly resembles the TR/NAR, but is totally different internally. It uses a true trigger mech that I invented, as well as a transfer mech that was also designed by me. It shot about 50 ft., but that was only with one or two old bands. It was really comfortable, and I would have liked to finish it, had I not taken it apart to build the NAR+TR8+ZKAR. Enjoy, and go ahead and ask questions if you have any. -The Red Book of Westmarch

R5, Bolt Action Carbine

Hey guys! After the "rebuff" I received from ZakS and FlyingFish10 (and more kind comments from TheDunkis and Raz1r Knex Bull3t) about how my K'NEX Gun: Declaration (R2) looked just like a ZKAR (to which I disagreed), I decided to rebuild and heavily edit my K'NEX gun Declaration (R2), changing the body and mechanisms so heavily that the comparison between it and the ZKAR would be virtually non-existent. After about three days of hard work, I have finally come up with this gun, the R5. With a brand new trigger mechanism and bullet transfer system, this gun is ENTIRELY different from any other bolt action gun you will find. While the bolt itself is heavily similar to the ZKAR / Zaktangle, almost everything else is entirely unrecognizable (except the magazine, that's a pretty standard yellow rod magazine). Features: Brand new trigger mechanism Brand new bullet transfer system Heavily edited (and improved) pin guide setup Comfortable stock Very reliable New magazine setup, with magazine breach Comfortable grip Flip-up back sight Great range: 50 - 70 ft. Preloadable magazine Internal magazine pusher 12 rd. magazine (could be increased) This version is by no means finished, but when I do finish it, I'll be sure to post a full set of instructions. Check out the image notes for more info. Tell me what you guys think I should change or add to this gun. I'd love to hear your comments. Quick Tip: When you have a magazine that is full of rounds try and make the last round different in some way, so that when you shoot the gun you know when the magazine is empty. This will prevent you from shooting the magazine pusher, and make it so that you don't have to keep track of how many rounds you've shot. -The Red Book of Westmarch

Knex bolt action mechanisms?

Could anyone post a link to a bolt action mechanism or gun that doesn't require too many pieces. I have already tried the zkar v2 and the ar-4 but I didn't have enough pieces. I do not have any ball socket pieces and I only have one hinge pair. The ar-4 required too many tan locks. I also do not want to break any pieces. If there is not anything which can help me please post a link to an instructables of good, powerful gun that does not require many pieces, preferably a rifle. Thanks

Your favorite knex weapons of 2009.

Oblivitus isn't doing the list this year, Mr. Muggle is.  However, he screwed up and made us choose from a rather restrictive list of guns to choose from, which I think ruins the spirit of this vote.  So I decided to do my own poll. You can vote for ANY GUN* you wish for.  Yes, your vote will be counted regardless on the type of gun or rating.  The only restriction on the vote is that the guns have to be made in 2009.  (EXAMPLE): My 3 votes are: -ZKAR v2 -TR8 -Mepain's shotgun pistol thingy. (www.youtube.com/watch) You can not vote for your own guns.  If a gun you vote for is not posted on ibles or KI, but on a site like Youtube or The Knex Forum, you must provide a link to it. That is all. *made in 2009.  May not be your own gun. EDIT- Up for debate- Should each of the 3 versions of the TR series count as one gun, or as 3 seperate guns?  For example, If I vote for the TR8, but someone else votes for a TR36, should it be counted as 2 votes for the same gun, or 1 vote for a different gun each?

Random knex challenge 7- The mother of all modification contests. (Edit- Winner)

This is the first random knex contest posted under its new host, me.  I'm taking the operation over.  Sorry I couldn't post it yesterday, but my house got broken into and under that commotion, I forgot. Anyways, the title is what it is.  You can modify ANY knex design on the internet posted (with one exception see below).  However, there are guidelines: Must Improve on original design.  The improvements can be on performance, efficiency, parts conservation, whatever.  However, adding random useless crap on a design is NOT acceptable. Must be original.  The design doesn't have to be yours but the MODS you make to it do. The more improved the design is, the best chance you have of winning. Don't limit yourself to just guns, you can mod ANY design. The one design I will NOT allow in the contest is the TR since it is so open to mods and there is a variety of options for it.  So keep that in mind.   Accepted entries:  Knex gun builder- Modded ZKAR bolt RC-1207SEV- Modded freeslinger Knexfreek- Freeslinger to tankbow transformation. Tigernod- OSNJCKMA2 mods (Can't remember the abbreviation) Edit- The winner is....Tigernod and his modded OSNJCKMA2.  Congrats!  Expect a patch soon Tigernod.

S2 Bolt Action Pistol Review

When joined Ibles, I knew that I didn't have any guns ready to upload, so, I decided to post some reviews, being that I already had some  guns built. The S2 pistol by  Sharir1701 seemed to be a logical choice, so I grabbed some blue rods did a little bit of testing. Please realize that even though I have just joined the site, I have a wide range of experience with knex guns, such as the ZKAR, TR8, Racker Rifle, and many of Red Book of Westmarch's replicas. In this review I am not going to do the ratings on a scale of one to ten, because Knex guns differ so much. Say you have a gun that shoots 70 feet. You give it a eight out of ten, because that is great range. However, the SRV3 shoots 500 feet, so 70 feet is NOT eight out of ten any more. Due to that, a truly honest review would rate even very nice guns quite low, due to the fact something will probably is better. If you don't understand this, that is OK, because I do, and I am the one writing the review. Also note that this one has Sharir's pin guide holder thingy. Anyway, let's jump right into the review! RANGE:  Frankly, this gun does not live up to Sharir's claim of 100+ feet. I only got 65-70 angled using two size 117 bands, which is still great range for any gun. Sharir says that it will only get that range with three bands. Sometime ago, I used 3 and did not 100 feet. I don't remember what exactly I got with three, but I am sure it didn't get past 75-80 feet. RELIABILITY: This is one of the gun's good points. Knex bolt actions don't have a great reputation for being reliable, but the S2 works nice and smooth. When I decided to review the pistol, I thought it would be nice to test the reliability and give ya'll the numbers. Here they are. I put the gun through two hundred rounds, and it had: 3 failures to fire, 4 failures to load, the pin guide broke twice, the bolt broke once, and the chambering rod popped out of the bolt twice. Now this sounds REALLY bad. However, the pin guide issues, the chambering rod issues and the failures to load were my fault.  The pin guide and chambering rods broke when I was jerking the bolt back too vigorously, and the rounds that wouldn't load were because I was manually  chambering the round, instead of having a return band chamber it. after I added the band, no trouble. ROF: Now this is one part I didn't really test. It charges slower then a ZKAR, but faster then most pin guns. It is good enough for most uses in a Knex war. COMFORT: Pretty comfortable. The handle is quite good, and I think it would be even better for someone with larger hands then mine. The problem is that there is not really a good place for your other hand to go except for the magazine, which doesn't make the best handle. To be truthful, it is kinda awkward to hold. It is too big for a pistol, but doesn't have a stock like a rifle. (Ok, you COULD use the pin guide holder as a stock, but it doesn't work that well) CUT PARTS: The gun is fine when it comes to these. There are several recommend, but you only need one cut gray rod for the chambering rod. ALL IN ALL: This is an awesome gun. not too many pieces,  looks kinda cool, and is fairly accurate. The ammo is blue rods, and i have a couple hundred of those, so it works great for me. Range seems about right, and it is very fun to shoot. In a war it would do pretty good, but the ammo is hard to find in the grass. The mag is a bit small, holding around 13 rods due to the mag pusher taking up quite a bit of space in the mag. This, a TR8, and a ZKAR would make a fine war arsenal.

AR-4 Commando v3-NOW POSTED

Posted!Do you think this gun makes the AR-4 v2 look like a noob's toy? plz answer! This is a new bolt-action knex assault rifle I made. It shoots Yellow rods. This gun is the first bolt action to my knowledge that doesnt use modded part. For those of you who dont think it is true bolt action, to shoot the gun, you have to pull the ram/bolt back, then push the bolt back while leaving the ram pulled back.STATS-Bolt-action-True trigger-includes bipod (foldable)-tight looks-includes scope-6 round hopper-30-40 foot range (one rubberband doubled up)-Safety (new)EDIT- I have put tape on the part of the bolt that pulls the firing pin back, and it gets an increased range. the tape straightens the parts that hold the bolt, decreasing friction. This started out as one of my failed projects, I made it before the jackal and showed it to ajleece and some others. The original one had a bottom loading removable mag, shot blue rods 5 feet. I took it apart to make my jackal, and then I got the idea to make it a true bolt action.I was not trying to compete with the ZKAR, I was just trying to make my AR-4 v3 work. Here is a video of me firing it on youtube:

Shotgun design (constructive criticism welcome!)

Alright, this is my new shotgun design.  I have been working on it since I decided to get back into K'nex, however, right now I don't have the pieces to build it, so it will remain a concept for now.  It includes a horizontal magazine that I have designed, a pump, and TD's ram.  The ammo will feed into a mechanism similar to that on the zkar, pushing it upward so that it rests on a pusher which is located right below the barrel.  This pusher is externally connected to the rod in the front and is held in the forward position by a rubber band.  When the pump is pulled back, the ram is cocked, and the loading ram is moves back as well, placing the ammo right below the barrel.  When the pump is pushed forward, it pushes the loading ram forward, loading the ammo into the barrel.   Though this model is not proportionate, I think it accurately gets the idea across, and I was hoping you could give me feedback as to what could be wrong with the design, or you can just feel free to tell me how much you love it.  Eventually I plan on adding a stock that houses a bullpup sling mech, using the guide on the ram to act as a pusher for the rear BTS of the sling gun.   I am pretty sure I can pull this off, but I need the pieces first, so feel free to test this concept out and let me know what you think.  Thanks. -Kinetic  * note in the key it says that the green circles are protruding rods, this is a mistake and the blue circles are actually the protruding rods

Knex Shotgun: Swarm

M'kay guys. You are probably woundering why my shotgun ible is gone. I will tell you. It never really go through the filters, and I PM'ed Mikeasaures to get him to pull it through. He was quite helpful, but told me in no uncertain terms that it had to be a step by step. So I took it down, and am reposting it now. Feel free to comment even if you already did on the old one, LOLZ. Oh, I have noticed there is a feature to "Share Photos or Videos." Is that the proper way to set up a slideshow? Sorry that the picture quality is lame, but they are stupid good considering the fact it was cloudy and raining when I took them. Don't worry, I will try to avoid making this mistake in the future. Swarm is a wicked indoor knex war shotgun, able to fire up to sixteen green rods, eight white rods, or four yellow rods. Now this is not my gun, just sayin'. It is KK's shotgun prototype updated with a the TR8 body, trigger, and handle. I thought I would post some nice, clear pictures so you can build it too. What really turns me away from this gun is that it is downright ugly. Some of you guys might not mind that, but I do. A lot. The good thing is this is powerful, reliable, and a shotgun, not to mention fun. Range is over sixty feet, and it is a tube and stick gun, so it will never fail. It is also a very fun gun to mess with. Swarm also has a very comfy handle, a strong stock, and nice grip. So enjoy the pictures. :D While this may not be a good primary for an indoor war, it would be very handy to have, if you have something like the ZKAR or my Epidemic to use, as reloading is a pain, unless you use yellows. Those are quick to load and hit hard. Please comment and subscribe. Feel free to leave nice long comments, as I like to read them. If you need any help, just ask. If you have any suggestions for my next project, please tell me.

2 ways to have more fun with knex guns.

So the number 1 thing to do with knex guns is to organize knex wars.  But what if you can't go to a war?  Don't worry, I have come up with 2 more fun things to do that don't involve nearly as much organization and knex as a knex war.  To make it more fun, I have made a point system that gives you bonus points depending on the scenario. 1. The hit and run (20 points) 1. Gather up 2 friends and give them guns.  The guns you will use should have a fast ROF, like a knexsayer, ZKAR, or handle pump TR. 2. Pick out a house.  Have your friends go on each side of the door of the house, while you stand directly in front of the door. 3. Ring the doorbell. 4. When victim opens door, open fire! Bonus 5 points if you emptied 5 or more shots from your gun before the victim reacted Bonus 15 points if you got your ammo back. Bonus 30 points if the victim waved his fists in defiance and vowed revenge. 2. Hit and run- soliciter version (20 points) You know those guys that hang around stores and sidewalks with cardboard signs asking for money and stuff?  Well go get a NAR or a TR and have fun! 1. Go find one of these solicitors.  They usually hang out in front of big chain stores like WalMart and Target.  They might even be at the local mall. 2. Pull out a TR or a NAR and shoot a few rounds into their cardboard sign. 3. Repeat until you get chased off. Bonus 10 points if they had a sandwich sign or a 2 piece cardboard stand sign and your shot went through both ends. Bonus 20 points if said solicitor was working for a charity like the salvation army. Bonus 5 points if you got kicked out of the venue. Bonus 10 points if you got your ammo back. Well, that's all I have time to post.  I'll post some more stuff later on, k?

Why the Advancements in Knex Gun Technology Have Stopped

I, as many other members of the online k’nex gun making community may have, noticed that particular aspects of k’nex weaponry have stopped evolving. The very best k’nex guns of today are guns such as the TR18, the ZKAR, and other far shooting, rapid-fire guns. Now that’s fine, but other aspects of guns have stopped evolving, and innovation has been halted. This is ironic considering many of our communities best builders belong to forum with innovation in its name, and we have so many builders advocating innovation in everything they say. The reason for this lack of new ideas is that the members of our community are not sharing their ideas with each other and encouraging others to build off them. I will explain this theory in my following paragraph.       Out of everything that has been made in the world, it was all developed because people want to top each other and people build off of each other’s ideas and accomplishments. Unfortunately, this is not happening in the k’nex online community. The biggest example is the everlasting KI/Instructables rift that has separated k’nex builders since even before the creation of Knex Innovation. No knexer even thinks of sharing the guns they’re developing with a knexer of the opposing site. Even bigger than that though, is the reluctance to share ideas with anyone. How many times have you seen people anywhere saying that they are building a new gun, but they won’t share pictures because they’re scared of people copying them? This is what hampers all creativity and innovation. If people cannot build off the ideas of other people, we will never advance. Sure we’ve gotten this far off people’s successful ideas that they’ve posted, but imagine how far we could be if everyone shared their failures as well. We could fix the guns that others could not get to work. Imagine all the possibilities if every single mech anyone ever tried to make was open to the public to use and improve on. Now this happens not only in Instructables where everyone goes crazy if they think someone even slightly copied their gun, and never shares their ideas with others except for those rare collaborations. This also happens at KI where there is a whole “secret forum” that the most experienced builders and contest winners get to see, where they post their ideas where all the other builders can’t see them. This selfishness needs to end so that we can continue innovating and creating new guns and ideas.

Lowney's Tempest Review

Well this is Lowney's Rifle that he posted yesterday, and I built it and with his permission I have reviewed it! So, here it goes: Normally, if you wanted an excellent oodammo single shot, you were left with a choice of two: The original KillerK pistol and Oodalumps' rectangle.  Now however, there is the tempest. It boasts something that only it has ever had in the world of k'nex: a rifled barrel attachment.  So let's get on with the specs: Use Firing Interval 8/10 this is based on the fact it is a single shot though. Five seconds is what I average. Bullet Lock 9/10 The bullet has never fallen out for me, but it doesn't feel quite the same as a ball joint Rifle Attachment 9/10 Works very well, but it's not a 10 because it can only do oodammo and velcrammo Smoothbore mode 6/10 Brilliant for any ammo that is shorter than a yellow rod but otherwise not so good Handle 8/10 It's a very very nice handle, second only to the ZKAR and MEZAK Trigger 9/10 Has yet to fail for me, but the movement is quite slight Reliability 10/10 Never failed: single shots rarely do Robustness 10/10 I test robustness by standing on a garden chair and drop in on concrete. It didn't break Other Aesthetics 4/10 the rifled barrel is ugly, but smoothbore mode this gun would be a 9/10 Innovation 9/10 the concept is so simple, yet it works like an absolute charm! Very innovative Range/accuracy 10/10 it shoots 160ft approx. and 80ft with cannon ammo without the rifle Power 10/10 again, this gun is mighty powerful, more powerful than the KillerK gun Pain factor 10/10 don't shoot yourself with cannon ammo, it will draw blood. Metallic or Old? I think comparing mine and Lowney's, old colors look better Weight Balance 7/10 The whole gun is so light there is no need to worry about the balance Totals Use: 86.25% Other: 71.42% Grand Total an impressive average score of 8/10 (1dp) which means I rated this gun 4* and would recommend it to anyone.     -Jesse Barns AKA The One And Only

KWR1 V.1 + "The More Bands, the Better" Myth

The KWR1 (K’NEX War Ready gun #1 Version #1) V.1 came out of my idea to build an entirely “mod-able” slingshot sniper weapon that you could rely upon in any outdoor K’NEX war (hence the name). You could make this gun longer; you could make this gun shorter. You could add a nonadjustable stock; you could make the stock longer, you can do practically anything to this gun (other than change the mechanism and the handle position).   Features: Good range: 60 ft. (1 band) – 100 ft. (5 bands, 45 degree angle) Can shoot: Oodammo (1 band: 60 ft.), Large K’NEX wheel (5 bands: 30 ft.), Small K’NEX wheel (5 bands: over 80 ft.), Lego bricks (5 bands: 50 ft.), NERF darts (5 bands: 50 ft.), and size #117 bands as a RBG (30 – 40 ft.) 10 point adjustable stock (see pictures 8 -11) with “Stock lock” (see pictures 13 - 15, 17) Totally customizable Safety (see pictures 15 - 16) Cheek rest (see picture 9) Not too piece consuming   Now, with all of that out of the way, I want to talk about ammo sizes and the “the more bands, the better” myth. So to do that, let’s look at the stats (shooting with three size #117 bands):   Red Connecter Ammunition: No rod attached: 62 ft. Green rod attached: 55 ft. 4 in. White rod attached (oodammo): 42 ft. Blue rod attached: 35 ft. 5 in. Yellow rod attached: 40 - 45 ft. Red rod attached: (got caught in the bands) Grey rod attached: (got caught in the bands)   Grey Connecter Ammunition: No rod attached: 64 ft. 9 in. Green rod attached: 59ft. 4 in. White rod attached: 50 ft. Blue rod attached: (got caught in bands) Yellow rod attached: 40 ft. Red rod attached: (got caught in bands) Grey rod attached: (got caught in bands) As you can see, the larger the round got, the lower the range you would receive. I think that this is a direct proof that bigger bullets are not necessarily good ammunition. For example, the ZKAR uses yellow rods? Might it get better range if it shot blue rods? Now, admittedly, the instances may be different with different guns, but I highly doubt it.   Conclusion: Stick with ammo sizes between blue rods and white rods (including both the blue rod and the white rod).     Now I want to talk a little about the “the more bands, the better” myth.   I took the KWR1 out to my backyard, grabbed some oodammo (growing in our garden, mind you), and commenced shooting from a prone position. Then I got this idea… what if I was to shoot with only 1 band, and not all 5? So I started to do that, leaving the bullets where the fell after having been shot. Then I decided to go back to shooting with 5 bands, to see how much better the range would be. So I fired a couple rounds… and got no better range than I did when I shot with only 1 band. I did this a couple more times, and found it to be true.   There is a myth (myth = a traditional story) pervading instructables that you will always get better range with more bands. Now, it is my personal opinion that if a gun can’t get 50 ft. with two bands, it’s no good, but that is irrelevant.   Conclusion: More bands does not necessarily mean better range.     Now, I am not stating these subjects as fact, for that would seem arrogant and presumptuous, but I do believe they are, to some extent, true.   -The Red Book of Westmarch
