I'm building a electric anchor for my boat. I'm using an electric actuator thats rated at 24v to 36v. I need to step up the power. my boat is only 12v. I was going to use a stepup converter. Found one 12v in and 48v out. Is there a way to control the voltage so i can tune it down to 36v. Also would there be a big difference running it 24v verus 36V?

hey we'r makin a solar powered boat for a techfest...it needs to run on solar power provided by 3 500 W halogen lamps..motor is 6V..we'r usin 6 solar panels of 6.5 V and 900mA..ther's a tunnel for a distance of 400mm(4cm) which means we hv to use capacitors for charging when energy is there nd to discharge when solar cell is not workin...also wer're connecting a diode in series with the solar cell ...we'r usin 5 capacitors of 4500uf each..the problem is that the dischargin time of the capacitor is only 2 sec..i dn think tht will b sufficient for runnin in the tunnel...do we need to add mor capacitors or change the circuit...also suggest if we need to add mor than one motor to increase the speed .plz suggest nd giv us sum tips nd answers..plz event is only 2 days away..plz reply fast....

I've always wanted to make a little wooden boat. It just so happens that I have a bunch of quality balsa wood and the Idea came across to make one, any Ideas how and what kind of glue or water proofer I would need. I wasn't able to find an iBles on how to make one. It just needs to be simple, I might turn it into a sail boat too.

Any tips, please, on adding motor power to a 14ft Shakespeare speed boat hull without the high cost of a conventional outboard. I only need about 4mph for use on lakes and canals, so perhaps a lawnmower engine driving a paddle wheel or prop might do it, eg with a design like the fast boats in the Far East fitted with a car engine directly driving an outboard prop with the whole unit acting as tiller steering..

I have an older pontoon boat and there is nothing to defuse sound from the engine. I have seen them for sale but of coarse prohibitive in cost. It would have to be as light as possible.(don't want to add much weight). It would need access from the boat to the motor. If there was ever a problem with the engine ( It would be difficult to work from the water I'm very short). If anyone has any thoughts I would be very happy to hear suggestions.

The boat has gone on to its new home now, hopefully they'll post their adventures and mishaps!here's the history of the boat.http://www.dilworth.org/writings/now.shtmlTo give away to good home, or rather for sale for $2 (two u.s. dollars). It comes on a roadworthy trailer but you'll need your own trailer plate. It's in Alameda California.post in the comments as to why you'll actually have a use for it and how soon you can take it away. Include your email address and phone# so I can contact you.Don't be discouraged by the proposals already here, none of these people has managed to take the boat yet. Get permission from your wife or girlfriend ahead of time.thanks, tim

I want to move to Hawaii and am looking to build a boat to live on and use to move down. It needs to have a place to store a motorcycle and room to live comfortably while still being easy on my wallet. I was thinking of using a truck engine for power and a 2 stroke generator with a plywood hull like older boats. to keep cost low and arranging the living space like an RV to make best use of the space. i will be grateful to anyone that can help

Hi, fora raft race contest for charity i would like to design something like this:http://www.edenvillage.com/Pond%20and%20Grounds/bike_boat.jpgfor two people! It has to be made from bits that can be readily available and for not too much moneys because the more cash that goes into the build the less there will be for the charity organising the event.Just wondering if anyone had any ideas, mostly for building the wheels, as, i hope the frame can be made from a modified bike. Thanks

I need a 48V bank for an electric motor on my boat. I also need 12V for my appliances. Obviously keeping both a 48V and 12V bank would be most efficient but the space required and cost of maintaining 2 banks is a bit much. So I was thinking of using a 48V DC to DC convertor to convert a 48V bank to 12V for my boat appliances(lights, pumps, etc.) http://pt.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Murata-Power-Solutions/HPQ-12-25-D48N-C/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMtwaiKVUtQsNaluUzA10QGezHFBNv8sYMI%3d But how much would I lose in terms of efficiency? Would the losses be too great? Would the bank of 4 x 12V 100AH batteries connected in series give me roughly 4800W ( 4 x 12 x 100 = 4800) or 16 hours of 300W use when drawing only 12V after the conversion? Or would the available AH be much less due to the losses from the conversion?

Hey, I'm looking to build an RC boat using an arduino uno and a motor shield. My motor shield power source is an 18v dewalt drill battery. I want to use this motor : http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__8595__2040SL_4800kv_Brushless_Inrunner_WaterCooled_.html but the max voltage is 11. How can I compensate for that? Could I just turn down the PWM? a resistor maybe? Thanks for the help, -Ian

Plastiki, the boat made with 12,500 plastic bottles, has successfully sailed across the Pacific Ocean. The journey started in San Francisco and has ended in Sydney after 130 days and 8,000 miles on the water. The goal was to raise awareness about the problem of plastics in the oceans, such as the Pacific Garbage Patch. Congratulations to David de Rothschild and the rest of the crew. Times are tough. People don't have the money that they used to. Some of those people own boats.According to the New York Times, boat-owning Americans are abandoning their boats in droves by sanding off the names and serial numbers and setting them afloat.Do you know what this means? It's ripe time to get yourself a free boat like Tim Anderson did some years ago in much more prosperous time.

Here is an article and a video about a couple that wishes to sail their boat made of plastic bottles, from San Francisco to Australia. David de Rothschild is preparing to sail from San Francisco to Australia in a raft made of 12,000 recycled bottles. Among other things, he is hoping to convince the world to take better care of its waste. The Link and video are here

I've had a senior moment. You know those widgets that they use on boats to fasten ropes? What are they called? Two ridged, rotating sections, lay the rope between them, and tension makes them turn in and lock the rope in place, pull the other way and they open to release it. What are they called? I thought they were "cleats", but that turns out to be the roughly T-shaped fittings that you knot rope around.

Here is my plan: - remove big v8 motor from 19 foot ski boat - install 6 standard size solar panels (40x65) above the boat lift and plug in the boat when not in use. - 20 kw motor, 96 V, rated current 98A (30-150A), turning 3300 rpm. - 4 batteries on board each producing 3.4 Kwh 24V. continuous current 110 A. Questions: 1. Does it sound like the batteries match the power requirement of the motor? 2. Am I correct in assuming the batteries can be wired in series to produce the 96 V? 3. If so, how long would you estimate the batteries will run the motor? 4. Will the 6 panels at about 330w produce about 10 -15 Kw per summer day into the batteries? Cheers, Bruce.
