Image Name + Caption Bug

The image names and other info appear when the mouse stops moving over the picture. This happens to be where I try to read captions. It gets annoying to have to wait for it to disappear every time. Any way to fix it other than switch to firefox? (I use IE) Just thought I'd bring this to your attention.

Staying Warm Caption Contest - Update!

Now that Thanksgiving is over and winter is on it's way, I have been brainstorming ways to stay warm around Instructables HQ. One solution that I am considering is to make one of those toasty Compubody Socks that I was fortunate enough to try on a few months ago. However, thanks to the effectiveness of this cozy privacy shield, I can no longer tell whether or not I enjoyed this experience. Perhaps you can help me to remember by adding your caption below? The best caption will be picked Monday and the author will win a sweet tape measure from DIY Network who is hosting a Cool Tools Holiday Blitz that runs from tomorrow (11/27) to Sunday (11/30). They will also win a virtual caption contest patch!Limit of 3 entries per person. The winner will be selected on Monday (12/1)UPDATE: And the winner is...The Internet is a series of tubes... In case you have not heard the breaking news, our beloved Instructables Robot and its beloved family member Instructables-Robot have been captured by a dancing zombie horde. Perhaps you can look at this picture and figure out what our poor robot is saying. Post the caption as a comment in this forum. All are eligible to enter. Contestants are limited to three (and we mean three!) entries. The winner of this contest gets a copy of Electronic Gadgets for the Evil Genius. The contest will be judged by Bilal's Undead Severed Zombie Head on Friday and the winner will be announced shortly thereafter.

Image notes at bottom of image don't show caption

The final image on https://www.instructables.com/id/Simple-Skull-Display/ has an image note that reaches to the bottom edge of the image, which means the caption (positioned below the mouseover box) falls off the bottom of the image and can't be read.  A little "smartness" in caption placement would sort this out- if the note is within a short distance of the bottom of the image, place the caption to the right instead. I can't remember if the old image layout did this as well but I don't see why the layout change would have caused this bug.

What is happening to my questions and forums input. Answered

I published an ible 5/31 and only 4 out of 19 pics had the captions show up.  Posted a bug in forums about it and now it is gone. Posted a question about the forums disappearance and seems it is gone now as well. So this question is about all of these  mysterious happenings here on Instructabes.  What has happened to my posts and pic captions?

Hacked - jinxed or what?

Links Don't Do Anything in Emailed Newsletter

I received the emailed newsletter, Giant Swiss Army Machete, Box Fan Mosquito Trap, 2-Liter Rocket, and found that some of the links don't do anything when you click on them. I tried the newsletter in two separate email clients. If you hover mouse over those alleged links, the pointer turns into an I-beam. Windows 7 pro, outlook office 2010, gmail. The following links don't work: 1.  All captions under each instructable project image. 2.  "All Contests >>" button. 3.  "See All Featured >>" button. 4.  "Customize Feed >>" button. 5.  "Browse Contests >>" button. Workarounds: *  For the captions under the images, click on the image instead. *  For the buttons, go to the Instructables site main page and find the items in the header.

We've Moved!

Instructables has taken another step forward by moving from the naval base in Alameda to San Francisco! While we loved the views and the shop at the tower the space was getting a little too cozy and, along with Potenco, we moved on across the bay into a new spot in the South of Market neighborhood. The new space means that we're easier to visit and we're much closer to the many cool folks of the DIY community in San Francisco. We have some big plans for the new space, but for now we're focusing more on unpacking boxes and making lots of runs to pick up free items we find on Craigslist. Oh, and finding all the cool new places to eat nearby. We're loving our new food options. We'll have more pics of the new space soon. Right now the place is pretty sparse, but it'll be cool. Very cool.Have a good caption for the second picture below? Enter it into our caption competition!

What happened to the Instructable Home Page...?

What happened to the Instructable Home Page...? It is showing very old pages and links to competitions already closed. On top of the Featured list there is an Instructable captioned as "The most Eco-Friendly lampshade! by sathyanaarayanan". The link does not exist. Also, the above mentioned author's home page shows that he has joined Instructable on March 20, 2013 and has not posted any Instructable till date.

Wired article on Noisebridge and hackerspaces

Noisebridge, a new hackerspace in San Francisco that I've been heavily involved in since before its inception, has just been profiled in Wired magazine. The focus of the article is one of Noisebridge's cofounders, Mitch Altman, the inventor of the TV-B-Gone and an Instructables member himself. (Me, I'm mentioned very briefly in the caption to the last picture, which shows my hands full of components.)http://blog.wired.com/gadgets/2009/03/hackerspaces.htmlThey call us "DIY Freaks"... but I can live with that!If this is up your alley, find or start a hackerspace near you. Hackerspaces.org is a great place to start.

Please check your presentation before publishing it

Whilst it is unlikely that anyone can achieve perfect spelling and grammar, you are showing off your ingenuity for all the world to see, so you surely want to show how good you are? Also make sure your images are clear enough to illustrate whatever the point is.  I've just read two articles this morning, the first about "Metal-dipping" seed pods has crystal-clear images, but the other from American Pistol Crossbow Association offered under-exposed pictures in black-and-brown, captioned like this  "... thwe safty catch is behind the rear sight."  Their spelling, not mine. Come on Folks, let's all aim for a standard of presentation to be proud to show the grandchildren. Geoff

Unable to use photos in the library in multiple different steps

So I am working on an instructable where I have a few steps already in progress, and in a new step I wanted to use a photo from my library that I had already used in a previous step. I had done an in-image box w/ caption in the first step I used it in that appears when I add it to the new step. If I delete the comment in the picture in the new step, it also deletes the comment in the previous step the photo was used in. I'm not sure if this is unique to the way the photos are stored, in that the comment boxed are stored with the photo. I'd much rather be able to use photos twice in different steps when they have the same information in the photo but I'm zeroing in on a different aspect of the photo. Should I just upload two of the same photo with different file names to overcome this or is there a way to use a single photo in my library twice? I'm working on a 2009 Macbook Pro Model 5,3 with a 3.06 ghz processor, in the Chrome Web Browser version 26.0.1410.43. I don't have a current instructable draft where this can be reproduced unfortunately because I ended up just using a different photo to get the instructable published on time for a commitment to a forum. Although it behaves the same in using the old photo caption when I brought an old photo in the library into a new instructable (Helpful Preferences for LectureNotes on the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1). I have attached a screenshot of an example image where it brought in the old comment to the new instructable. **Also is there a way to search the forum to find if this has been reported/asked before?? I'm very sorry if this is a repost as I couldn't search the forum itself.

Here's an Awesome Project - Will Require Composites Work :)

This armor, looks AMAZING! And using some life casting techniques (or even sculpting a mold from foam and test fitting) - you can make your very own with a bit of fiber glass and resin and flat black paint :) Maybe an early start for Halloween? I'd personally just go for the chest and back plate and substitute the rest with football pads. In any case, just thought I'd share :)Caption that goes with image:These happy characters are Peruvian anti-riot police, who are seen here parading in celebration of Peru's independence day yesterday. Yes, they are terrifying. This makes Peru the latest entry in a long list of countries I will try to avoid rioting in. I'm still all about rioting in Canada and Sweden, however. From Gizmodo

Slide show updates to a published show don't show up on preview

I am trying to update a slide show but the image captions don't change. I update the image data, save it, then hit the save and preview button - and voila - no change. I go back to edit mode and the changes that I saved are still there. Also, the images don't seem to be all there. I added some to the end and they don't show on the preview. Again, I saved the changes, but in preview mode, the added image doesn't display. The images are saved and I can still see them in edit mode.I published the slide show hoping that would show the changes. It didn't show the first day, but after one day, the changes showed up. This is on my only slideshow.showNot really a bug, but I find the whole drag and drop for reordering the slide pictures very difficult to control accurately. This may work for one page of images, but for larger slideshows it is frustrating to try and move images.BTW - I tried to insert a hyperlink into one of the text boxes on one of my pictures. It saved, but when I went to preview it - the entire box is missing. I went back to edit mode, and the box is gone. I guess you really don't want hyperlinks from text boxes. Thanks

Lets save the Bees. Things YOU can do!

Bee habitat is not just flowers, it is also brood space and shelter. Most bees are not honey bees or bumble bees, they are little solitary bees  and they do a lot of polination. We need to provide them with lots of brood space and overnight shelter too!  And modern garden practice is simply not doing it. First of all, I am not a bee racist. I am trying to help all the bee species.  I find that there is a succession of different bee species through the year. And they use different size holes .   In fact they don't just lay eggs in these holes, they shelter in them too. I did not know this..  This year I also discovered that they burrow into the pith in old raspberry stems and in grape vines! So if you compost your old raspberry canes,  you are probably composting bee babies  too. Dave from Camas, Washington has been bundling teasel stems for several years for orchard mason bees.   You could do the same with raspberry canes!? http://www.permies.com/permaculture-forums/520_0/critter-care/orachard-mason-bees I found this a week ago after I had started my project.  I make holes in cop blocks for the bees. I have also started layering plant stems At least 4 bee species are using the first cob bee blocks for brood or shelter.  I have some pictures at the link below.  Hopefully you can see the captions too. Brian https://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=246092&id=736625766&l=26546198d6 I am too Lazy to post an instructable right now and I am still learning the cob bee house thing.
