How can you get Play-Doh to harden?

My son made me a ring out of Play-Doh and I would like to know how I would go about hardening it so that I may wear it?

What is the conductivity of Play Doh?

Sparkfun and Make both have squishy circuit recipes but I'd like to know the conductivity... anyone? thanks!

Hardening Play Doh Kinda Stuff

Hi There! I need some kind of stuff, that acts like Play Doh at first and after a while gets really hard without any heat or preassure ore anything applied. Since I don't exactly know what I'm looking for or how to call, I haven't been able to search anywhere... I need to use a small amount on a hinge on my headphones. The hinge looks kinda like this: |     | |     | |-T-|    |  /   \ with the T part able to rotate. The little horizontal part is kinda broken, so that the T sometimes slips out, which is kinda annyoing while listening to music ;) I don't want to glue it in, because then it won't be able to rotate anymore. So if you have any idea how to call the stuff I'm looking for, or even better, got a recipe how to do it myself, I would really appreciate it! Thank you very much!

CIY: Bold Flower Necklace

Growing up I use to love playing with Play-Doh.  Something about the color, the texture, and the smell.  Oh, the smell… I remember I use to play with this contraption that I would attach little people to, that had holes in the tops of their heads.  I would crank a lever and the little people would grow Play-Doh hair.  I had hours of entertainment cutting and re-growing hair.  Ipad what? Oh, how entertaining kids has changed. I never imaged that I would get the chance to play with clay again in my thirties.  To create my Oscar de la Renta look I decided to grab some clay and go to town.  Unfortunately this clay did not have the Play-Doh smell I remember, but I still had just as much fun creating with it. Click here for the full tutorial!

I figured it out ? Answered

So my bumpy problem is solved. I knit English style and googled English style knitting in the round and apparently I got turned around and I was knitting counter clockwise instead of clockwise so when I got to the knit was essentially inside out. *doh* long story short I ripped it out and resumed going the correct direction and it's a beautiful thing. Thanks for the help. Here's my first one. I'm starting the mate today.

Help a newbie buy resistors

Hi there, I'm creating a simple circuit project for my students, though I don't know the first thing about electronics, so I foolishly bought tons of LEDS and 9V clips without the resistors - Doh! But now that I know I needs resistors, I'm not sure which type of resistors I need. A list like this is quite daunting to choose from. The LEDs I'm using need 1w resistors (I think...). Please feel free to ask my any questions or hand out other advice. Thanks! Lance

Subaru legacy outback 1997 no compression? EJ25 DOHC Rebuilt heads/piston rings/gaskets/seals/timing Answered

I toasted my Subaru about a year ago and just now am able to work on it. Had the heads rebuilt, piston rings, gaskets and seals...I do a compression check and zero on all 4. What else could it be? The lifters? I'm really at a loss and trying to fix it. Been contemplating getting an actual mechanic to come out and look it over, but I would rather try everything I can first. Anything at all to point me in a new direction would be awesome. Thanks

OK, Let's clarify some things....

1) OK, I will clarify this after it confused me for so much time. For those of you who didn't know,Eric and canida are marriedI tell you this to help you avoid all the stuff I went through. I saw a lot of things that pointed towards this fact, but nothing actually confirmed it. I didn't have the courage to ask here, if I was wrong, the embarrassment would be too much.... So there. What happened to Stasterisk?Star Simpson is a girl that strapped a fake bomb to her and tried to go through an airport. It was a circuit board with play doh attached to it in certain spots. She is currently a student at MIT, which explains the website url. So if you want to get more of an idea of who this Star Simpson girl is. Check outthis pageAnd this ibles postMy name is BryantAlthough, I think Gorillazmiko made that quite clear. Get over it.

Want your own factory for $2400?

Article in this weeks's New Scientist - they've developed a desk-top fabricator:The standard version of their Freeform fabricator – or "fabber" – is about the size of a microwave oven and can be assembled for around $2400 (£1200). It can generate 3D objects from plastic and various other materials. Full documentation on how to build and operate the machine, along with all the software required, are available on the Fab@Home website, and all designs, documents and software have been released for free.Unlike commercial equipment, the Fab@Home machine is also designed to be used with more than one material. So far it has been tested with silicone, plaster, play-doh and even chocolate and icing. Different materials can also be used to make a single object – the control software prompts the user when to load new material into the machine.Article: of it in action: would you build??

MP3 Bedtime Stories ..... Battery supply???

Hi, new here so please bare with me.....long story cut short. My Grandson is five years old and I thought it would be great, and get him to sleep quicker at night, if I could come up with some method of playing MP3 stories. I know, CD player, etc. nope, at five years old they want to take EVERYTHING apart. So no mains leads, CDs, etc. What I came up with was buy a simple and cheap (£2.99) MP3 player off ebay, pair it with a small battery powered speaker (£5.99) and away we go.....doh!   Both items are amazing and just right for the job BUT both are battery powered (will go flat after he falls asleep and they are left on) and two, they both have on-off switches underneath which stops me mounting them on a surface. Sorry this is going on so long....... What I thought of doing is getting a loooooooong lasting battery source (would 9v last a lot longer) and bringing ing it down to 1.5v (x2 one feed for each device). Then it wouldn't matter if they were left on overnight a few times -  or am I deluded.  Or better still, can anybody please advise?

Star (stasterisk) arrested at Logan airport for bomb scare

A 19 year old female M.I.T. student was arrested at gunpoint after entering Boston's Logan International Airport with what authorities claim was "a fake bomb" strapped to her chest, according to wire reports. The device is said to have been some kind of computer circuit board with Play-Doh and wires attached, strapped over her black hoodie. Link to AP report on her arrest. The young woman is identified as Star Simpson, shown in the image above left, and she is a sophomore from Hawaii. She has a user account on Instructables. Boingboing story Star's Instructables pageUPDATE: CNN videoUPDATE 2: Pic addedUPDATE 3: Canida's response added to BoingBoing, and a call for geek-protection sticker designs!UPDATE 4: Simpson pleaded not guilty to a charge of possessing a hoax device at her arraignment in East Boston District Court Friday afternoon. She was released on $750 bail and ordered to stay away from Logan Airport.Simpson could face up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine. WBZTV storyUPDATE 5: We had a quick chat with Star! She's doing fine, and after dodging packs of media she's finally getting back to work on her problem sets. There's still school, you know. Of course, they've impounded her sweatshirt, so she's got to do something else for the career fair.

wall wart/transformer instead of batteries?

I have recently purchased a creative HQ-2300D and it only accepts two AA batteries for powering the decoder, there is no DC in on it. Can I use a wall adapter to power it? (it really eats batteries)The intended charger, output is 3.7v = / 355mAhThe reason I am wanting to use a transformer with it, is it would make it a lot easier as it is only used for gaming on the xbox 360 (to get the dolby headphone from the decoder) so it is never used "on the go" so changing the batteries/ recharging them is a mild annoyance I wouldn't have from a transformer turned on when I use the 360. It can't be as simple as wiring pos to pos and neg to neg on the battery terminals inside the decoder with the nokia charger because there is only a slight variation in the voltage.....can it?. I am also concerned about whether the transformer is regulated or not, reversing polarity, correct polarity etc. etc. and what else is important not important when attempting to do such a thing, so as not to destroy my decoder. (I did this before with a minidisc player and a Universal adapter on the wrong voltage, I didn't impress myself..........doh.... anyone smell that....)I tried plugging the nokia charger into another 3v device (an old sony tape deck) that has a 3v DC in, and it didn't seem to give it enough power to turn the tape, but when I plugged in a universal adapter and set it to 3v it worked fine.My idea is to remove the fem connector from the phone and rig it so it can be plugged into one of the battery terminals and the nokia tranny can be plugged into it, but it can still be removed for when I want to use batteries.I put it to all those with the knowledge who can explain in lay-mans terms and educate me on the best, safest, cleanest way to solve my dilemma.Thanks.

Why less memory usage with more memory??

So.... seandogue uses a circa 1995 2005  (doh!) computer as his main desktop workstation (he also has a nearly brand spankin new superduperree laptop, but it's just not gertrude, if you know what i mean...) Anyway... My computer is old, yes, but relatively solid. A bit sketchy since it's XP but whatever. The issue is memory and memory usage. I just added a pair of 2G modules to boost it's effective memory from 2 to 3 G. )XP old and only acknowledge s the first 3 even though my machine can accept up to 8G Prior to the upgrade, my initial memory usage upon completion of windows load (desk is up and no more hourglass backgroundy stuff) usage was about 800M, prior to loading any "actionable" software (Ie, ignoring the sundry processes and applications that run automatically after on at boot...I mean programming IDEs, notepads, calculators, email, browsers, photoshop, cad progs, winamp, labview, music comp, etc.)  And now? darn if my baseline  memory load hasn't dropped over 60%, down to ~490M So. what gives, ibles-sages? Me, I'm stumped (seriously) .At first, I thought to myself, 'hrrrrm... maybe it has something to do with swapping...', but then almost immediately I discounted that, since I hadn't reached threshold for swap to engage. Then I thought,  "Is it possible there was damage on the 1G chips that would go unrecognized  but would cause memory load to be higher than it should have been? Are newer modules more efficient or something?" To add to the confusion, it *seems (I haven't done any serious forensics and really don't want to have to) . applications of various sorts seem to take less memory as well. Then I came here. kinda tired of hashing out every single solution all by my lonesome and I'm hoping someone will be able to clear that confusion up with an authoritative response. Just doesn't make sense to me why my load would drop by such a significant amount, and I'm really and truly tired as hell of speculating and of speculation.. Speculation eats time like dime store candy surrounded by a hundred hungry children. and it more often than not produces erroneous output.. (no, not looking to debate the efficacy of speculation either, My best feature is the ability to speculate, and it pays to know how, but even I get tired of living in a nebula of "there is no like right like answer" 100% of the time.) So heps a mind-worn joe, aye?  Someone please tells me in no uncertain terms why this is? >>>>  More memory added, less memory used? I really don't want to launch another google search that may or may not  yield the answer after reading a few hundred erroneous or misleading posts. To be very clear, the system is behaving BETTER, not WORSE, with the new modules, even when operating at quiescence, where max memory overruns (and the subsequent swapping that such overruns spur) aren't an issue.  thanks gracias danka...

the International-English language guide (v0.4a)

International-English Grammary rules :Rule #1 : "-ize" versus "-ise" In International-English language, we don't speak American-English or British-English. So, we are free to choose whichever ending we want. However, it is recommended to adapt ourselves to our interlocutors. For instance, if you write to an American-English speaker, you'd rather prefer the -ise ending, and when you'll write to a British-English speaker, you'd rather prefer the -ize one. It's also possible to select -isze or -izse endings, and you're absolutely welcome to change all along your sentences. However, it is absolutely forbidden to improvizse excentrical endings such as -izzzz, iszsze, etc.Examples :I realize that we could recognise that he did not organizse this exercisze as expected. (correct)Yeah, I agree. It was a great surprizzszsze ! Same rule apply to words like civilizsation, coloniszation, etc.Rule #2 : "-our" versus "-or" The rule is almost the same than #1.The alternative International-English ending is : "-oor".On the other hand, the "-ur" ending is not an acceptable alternative !Examples :I love the couloor of yor eyes and the flavoor of yoor tongue ! (correct)Yeah, yur right ! Rule #3 : "-re" versus "-er" Again, same as #1 and #2.Unfortunately, there is no International-English alternative ending. However, keep in mind that this rule only apply to words that have a different spelling in American-English than in British-English.When available, always prefer international spellings over american-english spellings : litre and metre instead of liter and meter Examples :As I was lost in the centre of this commercial center, I drunk three litre ... (correct)Three liter of what ? Of wine or of watre ? I don't remember, so I guess it was not water. (correct)Rule #4 : conjugation :If you forget the -s or the -es at the third person, it do not really matter as long as the pronoun is present in your sentence.By default, every past form of verbs take a final -d or -ed, and it is acceptable to ignore irregular verbs. It is also acceptable to conjugate the verb after its auxiliary : I did not conjugated correctly.Examples : She don't understand because she's a girl ... (acceptable)Yeah, that's because girls have a smaller brain than men. (correct)(and true)Yes, you're right. I have readed that in a magazsine writed by eminent scientists. (acceptable)Rule #5 : plural forms :By default, plural form of words take a final -s, and it is acceptable to write the plural form of words like child and "man" with a final -s (childs, mans), instead of children and men. Also, if you accidentally add a final -s to children, it does not really matter ... as for men with a final -s, it's rather a women's problem that you should better avoid.Examples :I hate childs ... (acceptable)Why did you made childrens then ? (acceptable)Because I wanted to play Lego and Play-doh again ... (immature and stupid)International-English Dictionary and Vocabular :CColoorCoulorCouloorCoulournounSame as color and colour. This is a beautifull coulour, how did you made it ? - Thanks, I simply mixed them all. This afternoon, KillerJackalope cut Cameron just to show him his favoorite coulour.EExcentricaladjective1. strange or unusual, sometimes in an amusing way :He thinks he is an artist, but this guy is just totally excentrical !2. which is not in the centre : The axis of this wheel is excentrical !GGOTOverbTo go to somewhere without possible return. You'll GOTO hell !GOSUBverbTo go to somewhere with a possible return. You'll GOTO hell without even GOSUB purgatory !!GrammarynounSame as grammar, but ending with a y :Why this y ? - Because that's the International-English grammary !HHolyHollyHolllyadjrelated to a religion or a godthis holly book makes not sense at all ... it's all writted in Outdated-English language.Yeah, I agree. It would have maked more sense if it was an hollly manga ...HoolyHoollyHoolllynouna small evergreen tree with shiny sharp leaves and small round red fruitWhere did you go for your Hollydays ?I went to Hoolllyhood ...the holy place of the movies industry ?Nah ... Hoollly HOOD ......But that makes no sense !Yeah, it's because it's an holly definition.LLoginphrasal verb when you connect to your account on a computer or a website by entering your name and your password :Please login to your account and watch my website !Okay ! I'm loging in !logingnounthe activity of loging in to a computer.a loging userPParalleliseParallelize Parallelizse Parallelisze verbto put in parallel :He parallelised the laser beams together.ParallelisedParallelizedParalleliszedParallelizsedadjectivethat have been put in parallel :These laser beams are perfectly paralleliszed.Pronounciationnounfrom the verb "to pronounce" ; how words are pronouncedWhat is the correct pronounciation of the word 'zeitgeist' ? - Don't ask me ! I don't even know how to spell it !UUnbannableadjectiveimpossible to ban ; that can't be banned :I can hardly believe that Nachomahma got banned from many site : he seems so unbannable !This guy is unbannable because he respects all the rules of the site.VVocabularnounSame as vocabulary, but without the ending y:Why not the y ? - Because it's the International-English vocabular !International-English pronounciation :As we all know :- most American-English speakers emit ducks and cats noises through their nose, and almost "vomit" some vowels- most British-English speakers emits vowels through their nose from the back of their throat, and consonants between their teeth without using their lips- most Australian-English speakers don't pronounce at all (they just make noises)So, you are free to pronounce your words with whatever accent you want. It's your right. After all, English is not your first language. You can be proud to know more than one language, and thus, it's your entire right to customise this second language with your natural accent. However, if, for the sake of compatibility, you absolutely want to imitate an accent, it is highly suggested to pick the Canadian-English pronunciation. They are the only ones to pronounce words like "about" and "house" correctly. For instance, they don't say : "abawt" and "hawse", they say "aboot" and "hooze".(c) all right reserved, aka chooseausername on instructables.comShiver irrrrrelevant Humens !Now that we have assimilated your tongue,You have therefore no secrets for us !
