Microsoft gives away 1000 song titles away free

Free mp3s (or mp4s if you roll that way ;) ), yay!! I can't remember for the life of me where I first saw this, or I would surely credit the source (lifehacker? gizmodo?), but in any event MS [is giving away 1000 + songs] fo' NO MONEY! You can download them and also listen to them online. What's the catch? Isn't one, just ads on the site. Cool beans.I know. It's Microsoft. I know. Shhhh. I know.But. There's actually some good stuff there! There are some artists you've never heard of in your life, and some more well-known ones (like Lemonhead, to name the only example of a few that I could've thought of ten minutes ago. :-\ ). I love some of the songs I found in their electronica/dance section - I love ((HYDE)) by ORGAVIN and A Foresaken Few (no, that's not a typo) by OC Lovely. There really does seem to be something for everyone, though. Get them here!

Firefox Scrapbook and Instructables "view all steps" issue

I take the internet with me when I travel. I use Firefox portable, on my thumbdrive to make sure it comes to me the way I'm used to. I also use ScrapbooK(http://amb.vis.ne.jp/mozilla/scrapbook/) add-on to keep local copies of the fun stuff I run across(for offline perusal when i DON'T have i-net access or just for archiving)Here's my dilema. For each instructable STEP, I get to choose only one image to archive full size. I'd like to be able to archive ALL the images in a given step.Scrapbook DOES do javascript capturing... but the extra images aren't captured. So if i manually save the images, and put them in the right place, the scrapbook page will switch correctly, but that just takes SO LONG! Please help if you can.(PS, NEVER capture at a depth of more than 1. it'll quickly turn into a game of six degrees of kevin beacon and you'll end up downloading half the internet!)

Unreadable Schematics

I thought when I joined up that this was going to be a great place to exchange ideas, so far not so! Everything I have downloaded to try to build the schematics have been totally unreadable. I saw a notice early this year that the problem had been addressed and taken care of, not so! the problem persists and if anything is worse!!! I paid for many years in advance in joining instructables thinking this was going to be a great place to share knowledge and ideas, I am now feeling as though it was money down the drain. If a simple thing as cleaning up schematics is that difficult it is money down the drain. When I can't read a schematic on my 32inch monitor no matter how large I blow it up something is wrong in follow up quality control, if there is any. I am sure I am going to get a long treatise about why this is this way and that is that way but it still comes down to if a web site cannot provide accurate legible information it serves no one! More than that its a complete waste of memory space no matter what it provides!

broken monitor help?

I've had this monitor for years and now when i pug it into any computer it is black. i know it is getting something to the monitor because when i plug it into a com. it turns a different shade of black. Plus when i turn the monitor off then back on it show me a quick glimpse of what the screeen should look like if it worked. i presume there is a short in the monitor. i believe it is a cft monitor. b4 i open it up i want to know if there is a simple diagnoses. oh and i did try messing with the brightness and contrast. i wouldn't be suprised if i had to open the monitor. i le it sit for a few days to allow the capacitors to discharge. i am really good with a soldering iron so if i have to replace a resitor or capacitor it'll be fine. and p.s. is there a way make a tesla coil out of simple parts like a day creation? and to all those who have jailbroken ipods and iphones with installer is anyone els experiancing problems downloading Cracked apps? thanks -miiwii3 some one help

Help! Flash/fiber optic wire question

Help help! I was following the instructions at http://tutorialgeek.blogspot.com/2010/11/fix-flash-on-nikon-d70-dslr.html to fix a flash on a camera I got on ebay. All was going great until the black wire came out. I tried putting it back in and got a terrible shock, and the flash no longer worked. So I thought it was a grounding wire. I tried to strip it and put it back in its little holes, but it did NOT want to strip. Downloading the service manual later showed me that it didn't want to strip because it's really fiber optics in there. In trying to fix it some more, I got shocked a few more times, pretty strongly (with the battery out, even). I'm not sure if I've fried a component or not, but at least nothing smells bad. I'd like to try to put a new fiber optic wire in there, but I have no idea where to find one. Can anyone help me? The gauge of the wire is pretty standard for small electronics. Please let me know!! I'm new and looking for projects and ideas

Hi Just came acrosss the site todays looks great I am sure I will spend many hours (too many?) on the site reading the postings and adding some of my own. I am very inetersted in renewable energy and spreading the use to help reduce climate change. I run three websites in my spare time wher I make a very small amount of money and hopefully spread information and ultimately help in the battle against climate change. I would be inetersted in feedback on my sites. I wiould be happy also to post up some projects in ebook format for members. I am also looking for projects to add to my sites - could I buy these from people? Hope I haven't offenbded anyone with this post or broken any rules? Warm regards richard www.energybook.co.uk - information site with free information and downloads www.OneToRemember.co.uk - book and ebook shop with some free ebooks www.wxtrade.com - free to use auction and classified site - like ebay but free

more output current with LM317 ?

Hi, for some time I have been wondering if I can make LM317 to output more than 1.5Amps. After many hours of searching I found that I can achieve this in 2 ways. The circuits are in LM317 datasheet which can be downloaded from here : http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/lm317.pdf 1- By using a transistor with LM317 (page 16) . 2-By using several LM317 regulators in parallel and using TL080 (page 15). Second one seems better IF load is equally divided between regulators, it also has the benefit of producing less heat when  high currents are drawn. My question is: will the second circuit (LM317s in parallel) work and output more than 2Amps? is load equally divided between regulators in this design ? can I replace TL080 with another IC ? By the way, there is a circuit in page 12 called "tracking preregulator" , what is the purpose of this design ? PS. I know there are switching regulators which output more current, but I'd like to experiment with LM317.

FREE DOWNLOAD 1915 ELECTRICITY FOR THE FARM

This is not a scan of the original book, but the original book converted to text with OCR, and strictly proof read with QC controls. Thus the charts, formulas can be copied and pasted into something else.  www.gutenberg.org/etext/27257   ELECTRICITY FOR THE FARM LIGHT, HEAT AND POWER BY INEXPENSIVE METHODS FROM THE WATER WHEEL OR FARM ENGINE BY FREDERICK IRVING ANDERSON AUTHOR OF "THE FARMER OF TO-MORROW," ETC., ETC. New York THE MACMILLAN COMPANY 1915   PREFACE This book is designed primarily to give the farmer a practical working knowledge of electricity for use a slight, heat, and power on the farm. The electric generator, the dynamo, is explained in detail; and there are chapters on electric transmission and house-wiring, by which the farm mechanic is enabled to install his own plant without the aid and expense of an expert.    With modern appliances, within the means of the average farmer, the generation of electricity, with its unique   conveniences,   becomes   automatic,   provided   some   dependable   source   of   power   is   to   be had—such as a water wheel, gasoline (or other form of internal combustion) engine, or the ordinary windmill. The water wheel is the ideal prime mover for the dynamo in isolated plants. Since water-power is running to waste on tens of   thousands of our   farms throughout   the country,   several chapters are devoted to this phase of the subject: these include descriptions and working diagrams of weirs and other simple devices for measuring the flow of streams; there are tables and formulas by which any one, with a knowledge of simple arithmetic, may determine the power to be had from falling water under given conditions; and in addition, there are diagrams showing in general the method of construction of dams, bulkheads,   races, flumes, etc.,   from materials usually to be found on a farm. The tiny unconsidered brook that waters the farm pasture frequently possesses power enough to supply the farmstead with clean,   cool,   safe   light   in place of   the dangerous,   inconvenient oil   lamp;   a   small   stream capable of developing from twenty-five to fifty horsepower will supply a farmer (at practically no expense beyond the original cost of installation) not only with light, but with power for even the heavier farm operations, as threshing; and in addition will do the washing, ironing, and cooking, and at the same time keep the house warm in the coldest weather. Less than one horsepower of energy will light the farmstead; less than five horsepower of energy will provide light and small power, and take the drudgery out of the kitchen.   For those not fortunate enough to possess water-power which can be developed, there are chapters on the use of the farm gasoline engine and windmill,   in connection with the modern storage battery, as sources of electric current.   www.gutenberg.org/etext/27257

Step selector displays wrong info

When you view any published instructable with multiple steps the step selector beside the PDF download button displays wrong info and behaves abnormal. This image shows I am currently on an intro page, yet the button is displaying step 2, which skips over step 1. Also clicking this button does not redirect you to the step. You actually have to double click it to get it to transfer you to the next step which would be step 2 instead of step 1 because of the bug. http://i.imgur.com/Ib9Q4PA.png This image shows me forcibly to step one and hovering over the arrow. It does in fact display the correct next page, and transfers you when you single click like it should. http://i.imgur.com/MsVN4Jk.png This image shows that everything is working like it should after the intro page. http://i.imgur.com/56HGgGm.png Overall this bug is simply a graphic/logic error bug on the intro page of all instructables which forwards you to step 2 instead of step 1 of the instructable. The standard next/previous buttons at the bottom of the page are not effected.

Cheep High speed video camera Answered

I am a science teacher that needs a "cheep" high speed video camera for a project we do as part of our forces and motion unit.  The students build carts out of paper and straws, then race them down an incline.  I videotape them and then analyze the video and the students determine the speed of their cars. (see video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqI5H8d4r7M). As you can see from the video, the slow motion video is very blurry.  the frame rate is okay (they are only traveling at 2-4 meters per second, which means about 8-12cm per frame, perfect for the save we are using)., but the initial position and final position is just an estimate due to the blurry car. Maybe I am not using the right terms, I do not know a lot about film/photography, but i need the individual shots to be clearer. I currently use a Flip video camera, which is good because it is super easy to download the videos for student anaysis. What kind of camera will suit my purposes, without spending more than $400? Thanks, Covo

iTunes suxxors

I'm just going through my music now and I removed my entire library so I could go through my music and delete duplicates and whatnot without iTunes shitting itself because it's missing files. For this example I'll use my Tupac Shakur discography as an example. I had downloaded two Tupac discography's to go through and mix and match them (Example: Albums I don't have, or one discography has a high bit rate version of an album then what's in my music folder). That all done and said, which took a while, I dragged just my Tupac folder (updated one) into the itunes window, it says I have 1.83 gigs of music (remember just the Tupac stuff) yet the finder says the folder weighs 2gigs exactly. There's quite a difference between 1.83 gigs and 2, roughly 240mb or more. Anyone else notice this problem with their library, another reason to hate apple more? All together my music folder reads 9.96gb but in itunes it only comes to like 6.52 something? I call fuckin shenanigans, anyone else? Grab your pitchforks...

Robotic Biomimicry

Reading up a bit, I came across www.abc.net.au/catalyst/stories/2577277.htm this, and thought I would like to try do something like that, but a spider. It's a "robo roach", a RObotic Autonomous Crawling Hexapod, or ROACH. Bio mimicry is starting to become a leading factor in robots for use in the field. Biomimicry itself is quite amazing the way it uses what works in nature to, well, work! Although there's something interesting about this cockroach, by the way it's made. It uses a simple bi-axial movement principal to keep things simple and cheap. They have a download link for the episode, just go to mpegmedia.abc.net.au/tv/geo/catalyst/catalyst_2009_ep14.wmv and zoom forward to 12:25 and watch it. I'd recommend it, it's quite interesting. Would any one have any information about this? I'd love to try make a robot that's based on an animal, preferably small, but there aren't many details any where. I'd like to hear your ideas about this biomimicry, what would you make and what would you use it for?

Legitimate botnet (zombie) farming?

If this doesn't exist yet, I have no doubt whatsoever that it's not far away. Is there a company doing legitimate zombie farming? ie, a cloud of computers running a local server which process data from a centralised distributor? People do it illegally, selling processing power from trojan infected machines, but is anyone doing it as a legal business? Imagine you could download a small application which sits in memory and draws off a certain percentage of your CPUs runtime, depending on the machine's usage. This processing power would form part of a cloud sourced supercomputer, with runtime sold to whoever. And say you were paid maybe a couple of dollars per 24 hours of processing, depending on CPU speed. Leaving a couple computers on 24 7 would add up to a not inconsiderable sum per month. You could salvage some old machines and leave them going in the basement. I've worked at animation studios, as an example, and for sure they would be keen to, rather than intermittently hire a room full of fast machines as a render farm, outsource it to a cloud. SETI did it. Like I say, if this isn't already being done, it will be soon.

internet for xbox live

I used to have high speed internet., the service provider was AT&T. One day we could not get internet. at&t said we had it. The main point is that we don;t have any more. I was looking into one of those connect cards, and wondered is it fast enough for xbox live. Do you need 3G coverage for it to work.. I live right out side the boundry between 3G and the lower bit for Verizion. I checked a local cell phone service coverage and its the same thing as Verizion. My question is what do I do. Are the conect cards fast enough any way or what. And if so, who has the best. the cheapest, and the best MB limit.  Who should I go with and what do I do. My local cell company is Cellular South. I was looking at CS's Huawei EC 168 Data Card. Just google cellular south connect card to find it.  I am definetly going to get the 5 gigs of possible downloads.(if my parents will pay for it) I am only 14, so I can't do a whole lot. Please help!

Greasemonkey script "all comments"

I created a very basic greasemonkey script that adds a "all comments" link just below the normal "add comments" button.  When you click it the page will reload and all comments (up to 2000), not just 50 at a time, will be displayed.  Script simply appends "?&sort=NEWEST&limit=2000&offset=2000" to the end of the URL.  This should making searching through comments with "ctrl+F" much more useful.  Note that the page reload might take a while if there are a lot of comments. I am a copy paste coder, this works on my machine(xp with FF3.5) and my account, you however are on your own.  If your computer explodes and the internet breaks after you install this, I'm very sorry.  When you download this file you will get a .tmp file.  Rename it to whatever.user.js, the only important part is that it end in user.js.  Next, right click on whatever.user.js and choose open with firefox, you can then install it in the browser. Update--Works in Chrome.  Follow the same renaming steps as above, then simply drag it into an open chrome browser window.  Chrome will give you the generic warning, just click "continue" to install.

Instructables Stickers in Taiwan

A few months ago Instructables user Cousin Steve contacted us about printing up some Instructables stickers to hand out at a DIY event in Taiwan. We thought this was a great idea so I sent Cousin Steve the source files for the Instructables stickers. He then took some awesome initiative and translated our slogan into Chinese, printed up a couple hundred stickers, and has been handing them out to people in Taiwan ever since!Needless to say we were very impressed and excited with his work. We've told him so, and sent him an Instructables robot t-shirt to thank him for helping us spread the word about Instructables to such a far away place. If anyone else is interested in printing up Instructables stickers in their area you can download the original files below, translate the text as necessary, and print up some of your very own stickers to hand out. We just request that anyone making any changes to the designs below run them by us first so before having them printed up.Nice job Cousin Steve!

Why won't the CD that I burned play?

I FIXED THE PROBLEM, THANKS I tried burning songs to a cd multiple times on THREE DIFFERENT COMPUTERS with an .mp3 and then a .wav format, I closed the session every time and the cd will not play on my PS3! I am using CD-R discs and our computers all use Windows Vista. Everything seems to work just fine until I put the disc in the PS3 and nothing shows in the music folder. Update: I also tried burning an audio cd format with Itunes and it didn't work. I also tried the disc a few times on a cd player instead of my PS3 and it didn't work. I also tried using a fresh disc and it didn't work. And I downloaded a program to scan my computer for updates that I may have needed to burn a disc and it couldn't find any. The music I am trying to burn is music that I recorded and is not protected. And someone told me it might be a Windows Vista error (all 3 of our computers that I tried burning it on are Vistas) I FIXED THE PROBLEM, THANKS

Surely there's an app...? (Software recommendations, please)

So, I have this new HP Sprout that I totally wasn't expecting. It's got a large touchscreen and this cool projector-scanner-touchmat combo that should be really useful for... something. The first thing I actively want is to be able to create files for my laser cutter (running Lasercut5.3), just by drawing with fingertips or stylus.  In my head, I see a version of Inkscape that works on the touchmat, but only responds to the stylus (to save weird lines from knuckles, elbows...).  I have Inkscape downloaded, but it won't work with the touchmat. Second, it would be nice to start learning how to create are actually 3d already, that could then become lasercut-able or 3d printable. Again, it would be nice to use the full potential of the machine, so what software would you recommend? Third... what?  have you got any cool ideas? On top of all this is the consideration of cost.  Free would be nice - if you are a software developer, I don't mind having a go with Beta products (I'm known for breaking code, so if it can survive me...).

Recover Outlook Express data?

I'm trying to help a friend who's computer got into a state where windows would not boot. Windows repair and a few other tricks didn't work and he didn't have many programs so I just re-installed windows but not before taking a full image of the original drive state. Everything works great now except he says he had a lot of old emails saved that are gone now and his address book is empty. I already reconfigured outlook express to get his mail (standard pop3) and that's working fine but obviously his old stuff was not on the server nor was his address book. Since I have a copy of all his old data logically their should be a way to recover and manually bring his old email and address book into the new installation. However I wasn't able t do a proper export so basically all i have is a copy of the files from the old HDD. What files should I be looking to copy back from the old image and how should i import them so as to not destroy his new mail that's downloaded but still restore his old mail and contacts?

How can I play Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2 - The sith lords on a netbook?

Hi all! I own a emachine em250 and was wondering if it was possible to run Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2 - The sith lords (SWKOTOR 2) I have 3d analyser which can emulate HW T&L (Hardware Transforming and lighting) and according to both the back of the box and System requirements lab, I should be able to run it ( due to the emulated HW T&L) Oh, what happens is that I create my player, click play, it displays the loading screen and then about 3 cm away from finishing it flickers, and finishes loading, it then goes completly black and does not respond, eg. I have to shut down the pc/put it to sleep. So does anyone know the configuration for 3d analyser? or how I could just play it? I have 1.66 ghz of CPU, 1GB of RAM, 224 mb or video ram edit: I also tried downloading someone elses save file to see if it is just the load up that is failing... Its not. PLEASE HELP ME! Thanks in advance Nathan (Ghostmonkeys)

New instructables feature for FREE users

After the success of my first Perl script thread, I just had inspiration to write another one (or modify the last rather) In this thread, I give a breakdown of your instructables by views. You get to see the number of instructables you have that have 1000-9999 views, 10000-24999 views, 25000-49999 views, 50000-99999 views and 10000+ views. As well as the total views of all of your instructables as before. Yay! So here is my fact about eric: ewilhelm Instructables: 124 Total Ible Views: 1660250 1,000-9,999 views: 74 10,000-24,999 views: 21 25,000-49,999 views: 8 50,000-99,999 views: 6 100,000+ views: 1 And a less interesting one about me: jayefuu Instructables: 16 Total Ible Views: 66682 1,000-9,999 views: 7 10,000-24,999 views: 1 25,000-49,999 views: 1 50,000-99,999 views: 0 100,000+ views: 0 Post below to see yours! is it possible to root my sam-sung intercept (sprint) with the froyo update? and what about flash player? [answered]

Is it possible to root my samsung intercept (sprint) with the froyo update? what really pisses me off about this phone is that it has NO flash player at all. ive tried installing it from the adobe website, Googleing "flash plater 10 for 2.1", and looked throughout the market. its not there (i thought it is there for 2.2 froyo but NOOOO this phone has to be horrible). also moved the app from "downloads" to "tunnybrowser> app_plugins" nothing works any suggestions? can anyone offer me some simple rooting and flashing this phone? also, will writing a sudo command in the "ROOT" folder work? it seems like i can. using this phone it so far seems i can "create" a folder in the ROOT folder. will this work or will it brick my phone? using some apps from the market, i discovered my phones CPU does not go higher than 199MHz. this REALLY UNPLEASANTLY PISSED ME OFF. NO WONDER WHY MY PHONE IS SO DAMN SLOW! how do i increase it to the 800MHz it was rated for? and what would happen if i tried to over-clock it to 1 ghz?

Is this possible with the Raspberry Pi?

So I have recently purchased a Raspberry Pi and I finally go the time to mess around with it a little bit.  So far i have only installed the NOOBS software and have downloaded the recommended Raspian operating system, and have been using it as a desktop computer.  That is all I have done so far.  So I have an idea of something i want to create with the Pi.  I also have the camera module for the Pi and I'd like to put it to use.  I would like to have the Pi, with the camera module attached and operating, in one location, with a monitor of some sort, possibly a cell phone or just a display i would purchase, and have the camera wirelessly send the video feed to the monitor.  I'm assuming this is possible because i have seen instructables on here where people use the Pi to make security cameras. My idea is similar, just none of the ibles i found quite hit the idea on the head.  So, i guess i'm looking for someone to tell me if this is possible, and point me in the direction of how to go about doing this, or if there are any ibles on here that are exactly this that I have missed. Thanks

Logic Goats papercraft

Here is a super cute little project which I found unaccredited on 4chan (who'd have thought?)  Logic Goats!  Papercraft logic gates in the shape of goats, which nod their head when the appropriate inputs are given.  There are four (there may be others I haven't found): And-Goat Or-Goat Xor-Goat Not-Goat I haven't made any of them up but I plan to this weekend!  I'll post pix if I manage to do this :) Update: these are from a website called robives.com, which sells them; I've removed these copies as they're clearly pirated.  Thanks for pointing this out, meeze!  I couldn't find attribution on the PDFs themselves yesterday but on checking again today, one does have the url on it and they're all on the site for purchase (see links above). (Note about Internet safety.  There is an attack which is becoming more common, which can be embedded in PDFs using the Javascript capability in Adobe Reader.  I did a bit of research and I am confident that these Logic Goat PDFs don't contain any malicious code, but as with anything on the Internet, download at your own risk.  In general it is wise to disable Javascript in Adobe Reader, if you use that for PDF viewing.  There is an interesting discussion of one of these attacks here: http://isc.sans.org/diary.html?storyid=7867)

Choosing my 1st 3d printer

So I have been considering to purchaser my own home 3d printer for a while now, but I am not sure which go for as I am happy to spend around about 500Euros or so on a 3D printer but I would prefer one that can use at least 2 colours. I would mainly be using it to create still like little figurines and statues. I have enough skills in 3d modeling that I don't need a store or 3d model assets but that would be nice. tho I am use you can use any 3d model files that you can download online. I came across this one for $100 http://www.peachyprinter.com/#!methods/cjg9 I was using this website to look for affordable 3d printers http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/affordable-3d-printer/ But I guess what I also want to ask isn't just what are peoples suggest 3d printer to choose from but also what things should I look out for when buying one such as maybe special filament used or poor quality 3d prints noise problems or slow speed?? so any suggestions what ones to go for or what ones to stay away from Many thanks.

Tablet Help?

I recently purchased a used pandigital novel tablet. Unfortunately it has some problems. The most major of these is that some of the aplications don't work. The really critical one that doesn't work is the "ES File Explorer" which is what lets me do almost all of the app management and the fike system options. When the icon is tapped it brings up a notification that the "application is not installes on your phone" I think the problem is that when the OS (Android 2.0 by the way) was installed the I cons were placed on the home page but the Aplication wasn't installed. I have downloaded the .APK aplication file for the ES file explorer on another computer and copied it to the 1 GB SD card. But I can't move the APK file onto the tablet internal storage from the SD card because I don't have a file manager installed. I canpt access the tablets internal memory when it is plugged into the computer. The computer just looks at the tablet as a card reader for the SD card. Also some other aplications don't work. These include: Office suite QVC Sam Slide application store. If someone could please please help me I would be ery happy if you neeed more info just ask. thanks.

Please join K'nex group on Groupie

Alright, so to help start the community back up, I was hoping to find a group of K'nexers on a website/app called Groupie. It's actually pretty cool, but I mean not to advertise. Anyway, it is basically a message board where you pick all of the different forum topics you want to be a part of, or you can make your own. I made a K'nexing one but no one whatsoever has joined it. I want to get people from here to join because: 1. A little activity to jumpstart the group may result in more people actually from Groupie joining. 2. We can have an easier way to chat in between a forum here and a live chat. It's much quicker than posting a topic, but posts will stay up and open for discussion so you don't have to be in the room at the time to discuss. So if you would, first sign up on Groupie (or download the free app if you have an iOS device) then join the group 200173 which is my group once you're on. And of course feel free to check out other groups and whatnot, you'll probably enjoy it, but again I mean not to advertise the site so much as get people in my group.

Put the robot on your browser.

So yesterday when I had the usual Firefox Google page open up there was a little thing at the bottom that advertised an add-on called Personas. I checked it out and it turns out it has a lot of different "skins" for Firefox that you can interchange without restarting your browser. So, when I saw that you could make your own skins I thought of one thing, an Instructables persona, and here it is. For those who think that the amount of orange on each page of Instructables is not enough for their daily lives. The file for the footer is 3000x100 pixels. The file for the headers is 3000x200 pixels which is required for the headers and footers. The pictures below are just showing what the right sides of the different headers look like. The links below lead to the original files for the headers and footers so you can make them a part of your browser, just follow the instructions here, go to "Do I have to add my Persona to the public gallery?". Just download the original pics from these pages.Robot Header copyRobot Header 1 copyRobot Header 2 copyRobot Header 3 copyFooter it is just the darker orange color on the headerUPDATE:The persona for the first one is finally available on Personas

computer help please

Ok, i was trying to help someone on a different forum with their computer problem. heres the post: "My sister bought a new computer. Its a monster of a computer.. Some HP with 8GB RAM 64bit Vista o.o It didnt have a TV-card, so she bought one and put it in herself. Shes been playing some online game, I dont know which one but whatever. After the game loaded a new patch, she got an error message. Some CCCC.exe errored.. She found out that CCCC-thing was part of a driver of her grafic card. Whenever she tried shutting down the computer now, it would take about 5 minutes, than the 5 seconds she used to have before. And the problem got worse every day. The computer is running really slow. For example hitting the Windows button, it will take her about 3 minutes till it even shows the Windows-menu. She tried downloading a new driver for the grafic card. But after hours of searching she couldnt find the one for her card. So she took an older version of it. But yet.. it wont work. Should she just back-up the whole computer and install Windows new again?" anyone know what to do? all credit will go to the poster upon request.

Game Help

I need help. I've wanted to make a good 3D game for a long time now, and I don't know what to do next. I've downloaded the latest version of Blender on my computer, but my computer is very laggy, has an inconsiderate graphics card, and I have no idea how I'll be able to play it other than on the blender game engine. I took careful notes, I already have a pretty good idea what I want to make, but the idea is so huge, that I don't think my computer (or any computer) could handle it. I have excellent artistic skills, and I've made a lot of thumbnail drawings, conceptual artwork, and details. But I have absolutely no skills at programming, and I've never made a game before. What should I do now? I'm working on learning how to use blender, but since I just got it today, I might be a couple of decades...If I can't make this game, is there a company that I could sell my plans to in some hope that a game might be made? If I can't make a game, I suppose a good 3D movie would work as well...... But I just don't know yet.

Can I create a quadrocopter RC transmitter using an Arduino?

I recently started playing with a quadrocopter. I love it, but I am not a fan of the traditional RC transmitters. I believe that they were designed for older RC airplanes and I think the design could be improved upon. I have also recently started experimenting with Arduino. I bought a USB shield and downloaded a fancy library and I can now control my more simple robotics projects using my wireless Xbox controller.  What I really want to do is send radio signals from my Arduino to my quad without altering the quad in any way. Perhaps the easiest solution would be to cannibalize my current transmitter, but I wonder if there is another way. I'm new at electronics but I'd really like get things going. Maybe a few more detailed questions would be helpful. 1. Can a custom built RC transmitter be paired with any RC receiver? 2. What sort of Arduino parts would I want to look for to accomplish RC transmission? I've seen a couple of 2-6 channel transmitters, but would like more resources to understand how they interact with receivers. Any other information/links would be greatly appreciated.

Help with an instructable based on xAMP/WAMP server and Arduino?

Hey friends! I and our friends are working on this instructable for our school project. : Using fingerprint sensor for time attendance in combination with xAMP solution                    But i'm a beginner in arduino and want someone's help. I posted to the author but i think he is also new to instructables so he seldom comes online. Anyways. So there are many things i want to learn. Plz someone help me. The project we are working on will first enroll the fingerprints of students (atleast 50-60 in a class of our school) and then upload the data to the xAMP (or WAMP) database. And there will be 3 pairs of 7 segment led mounted on a board like given in the image, which will display the real-time data of Present and Absent students. First i want to know is this fingerprint sensor compatible with the program given in the above instructable, because it looks a bit different from the one adafruit.com and comes without jack and wire. Also im unable to download the registreer.php file given by the author and i dont know how to use it and the sql file. At last is there a way to use serial or bluetooth communication instead of wifi to make this project because it is going out of our budget. Plz help anyone. i will be very obliged. thanks in advance..... :)

Torrenting a movie you own (Legality)? Answered

So, i have been wondering this for a while now, and thought to ask here before I did something stupid and got the feds at my door :) Is it legal to torrent a movie I own? For example, I have an old copy of the Incredibles, but since it was released in 2004, the movie has seen its fair share of use, and at the moment is too scratched to be played (Unfortunately I did not rip a backup...).  So under these circumstances, would it be legal to torrent the movie file, as I have the actual, physical disk of the movie? What about VHS tapes (got my fair share of those). Getting these on my computer would just be some $70 software/recording equipment... it would be faster and cheaper to download them instead of getting shoddy quality off of a 15 year old VHS.  What about for a disc that has been solen? We had our car broken into at one point, and got some 10 DVDs stolen out of it (around 8 of which didnt have a backup)... I would like to be able to get those back, legally, without having to spend $150 re-buying movies already purchased...

Letter from the editor: Say Hello to eBooks!

Happy New Year to all! It's been an exciting time at Instructables HQ, with the release of over 60 new eBooks currently available in the iBooks store on iTunes! As many of you know, we've been furiously working on putting together some fantastic guides of projects that span the content of the website in order to share our work with an even broader audience. Many of your projects have been featured in these eBooks and you have already checked them out. For those of you who haven't, you can peruse the iTunes bookstore and download free previews of all of the books we publish by searching for Instructables within the iBooks App on iPads, iPods, or iPhones. If you don't have a device that natively reads EPUB files, you can read them on your computer using a free EPUB reader such as Calibre. Click here to get Amazing Cakes for the iPad or iPhone Lots of interesting questions and ideas have come up in the creation of these books. While we want to offer as much of our content for free as we can, it's also true that people tend to value objects more when there's a price tag attached. To test out this theory, we did add some nominal fees (between $0.99 and $2.99 USD) to some of the more niche titles we created – the rest of our books remain free on the iTunes market. However, all of our PRO members will soon be able to download every eBook we produce for free, and every author featured in one will receive a code to share with their friends and family as well. Some of the titles are available to the Nook audience, though their publishing restrictions were tighter than iTunes' (the Nook doesn't allow us to offer eBooks for free!), so we were limited to what we could share through that market. Now that we know more about their process, we'll be able to share more with them in the future! And we're still brainstorming the best way to bring these books to your Kindle (as much as I love my Kindle, I just don't like the way our guides look in e-ink). Of course, you can still upload pdfs of the Instructables you love to any portable reader you have. Click here to get Survival for the Nook We hope you're having a great new year, and that you're as excited as we are about this new venture!  Click here to check out all the rest of our new ebooks! All the best, Sarah

Instructables podcast?

So I know this idea has been floating around for a while. I want to try to put this into action. However, in here I will be telling you guys what I plan to do... I know killerjackalope, =smart=, and others were doing this. This is only a proposal, in part with them...? Well, for the show. I can be one of the host. That's right, only one. Along with a few 'regulars' and the Instructables crew. Then, we'd let the viewers, and community do this, too. We'd get everyone to videotape a small portion, or segment, of the show. Then get someone, with nice video editing skills, to blend it all together. So tell me what you think?Eric said yes. We are allowed to move forward.Everyday you can email me at mg0930mg@yahoo.com, im me at mg0930mg on aim, or reach me on skype at mikeyg0930Where are the meetings held? Skype. i wanna make a blood pressure signal generator using purely analog parts.

I found this link : http://www.designnotes.com/downloads/MK105_Assembly.pdf. i was wondering if i could modify this or other suggestions?Or could i just run two together and use a different frequency somehow needs to look similar to this: http://www.biopac.ca/images/img23.gif edit:sorry , i was at work and didnt realise that it would be so confusing, so heres a few details I have access to a 9 Vdc line. using that i need to create a blood pressure signal, where it peaks at 1.2v and lowest is .8V with a slight bounce after thepeak. You can see it in the image that i posted.  i was thinking of using a 555 timer and series of resistors/caps,which i could create a sine wave with it. But how would i go about creating the bounce?  So essentially simulating a perfect blood pressure of 120/80 mmHg , that i could input into my ECG machine or view on an scope. I am also limited to purely analog. So i can use microcontrollers and the likes. But i am allowed to use 555 timers, op-amps etc. BTW the ideas that i have seen are great, especially the one using valves and a sewing motor, i cannot use it unfortunately. I might make it during the summer

Here is a video on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfdVdPwPhWU Works on one IR diode (would be glad if can do the same on atmega8a) There is a link to download the code for arduino: http://arcfn.com/files/arduino-tv-b-gone-1.2.zip Project page (guy changed the code to working on arduino) http://www.righto.com/2009/12/tv-b-gone-for-arduino.html Original project page where originally everything is working on ATtiny85. https://learn.adafruit.com/tv-b-gone-kit/design-notes If needed I've got Arduino UNO, USBasp (can burn program with USBasp using Eclipse C/C++ or ArduinoIDE) I want to know if i could make it work on Atmega8 (internal oscilator/external crystal?) (got many of these, don't want to buy new microcontroller) without any effort? I would appreciate if someone help me. I found also something like this. https://code.google.com/p/mircho-avrcode/source/browse/#hg%2FatmegaCode%2Ftvbgone-atmega8 but I need EU codes Sorry for my English. I'm from Europe.

FREE Schematic publisher(also includeds breadboard and PCB view)IN ALPHA

I did a search and didn't see it on this site anywhere, but I see a huge need for a number of the members here to be able to draw schematics and even simulate a breadboard or PCB. This software is free(but it is still in ALPHA testing). I have no affiliation with this site so I can only answer questions about usability from my opinion. For what a lot of people need on this site to help make "instructables"  that have electronic curcuits in them I think this is perfect. Especially if you can't afford high dollar software, plus if you're not an electronic engineer this software will teach you proper terminalogy and proper drawing designations as well. From what I know, all parts on the program are editable. So if you need a green 3.6v LED you can edit the one that comes default on the program and save it in your tool kit and use it for another project later. Hopefully everybody sees this. If the Mods know of a place to put this where it may be more accesible and visible to everybody here, please move it. Here's the link to find the software. They have it for Windows, Mac OSX, Linux 64 and 32 bit http://fritzing.org/download/ Enjoy PS, don't forget this software is in Alpha, so contact the devs and tell them if you have problems or you'd like to see changes
