Can anyone please tell me what type of alternator from a vehicle I need to make a wind generator, and what voltage it might kick out, and if I had it going into an iverter what could I power please.

Reduce Electricity Cost?

Does the electricity meter count power used if I only used the live wire and channeled it to an independent earth pit? In other words, I do not complete the cycle with the grid? Power comes in through the live, through meter then to earth?

Can anyone point me to the experiment that used the earth itself as a capacitor?

I only briefly read it. Using cardboard and foil you could create large amounts of static electricity using a principle Tesla found that used the earth itself as a capacitor. Could anyone point me in the right direction as to where these instruction are?

Wiring up a bathroom exhaust fan-how to?

so I cut a nice round hole in the ceiling of my bathroom. physically installed the fan. was going to wire into the light so that the light switch would turn on the light and fan in one. the exhaust fan has a plug- 2 prongs (i'm in australia). the wiring to the light switch is only 2 wires. the light wire was exposed /available half way between the light socket and the switch. so thought that would be a good place to cut the wires (mains power off and fuses removed) thought at first I would wire the fan in serial and that didn't work. tried parallel and htat didn't work. I was going to wire a "power socket" on  to the cable.  the fan has a cable coming out of it with a plug . inside the power socketty thing there places to out the wires. and then turn a screw to keep them in place (ooooohhhh , the technology talk is a flowing). so black has one socket thing to place wires in and red has 2 socket things to put wires in. so how (and please use a diagram if it makes it easier for me) do  I wire the bastard in to work??? I've tried every combination - except using red wires in to both red wires places with turn screws in the socket thing.

where does electricity go?

I got a question. If we ground everything to the Earth for shorts and things like that, Where does that electricity go to? Does it just disappear deep down inside the earth? Does GE have an electrical well and is sucking all this electricity that people pour onto the ground? Please dont use big words like anode and cathode and coulombs (simple is better) :)

How to Save Electricity

Saving Electricity: How to Save Electricity Welcome!I've always hated "How-To" guides which don't explain why a certain tip works, or how well it works. Sometimes a topic is just as mysterious after you read the guide. My guide is different. In all honesty, this guide is a bit simplistic, but it does have a nice description of why there's no point to worrying about surges when electronic devices are powered up.

Wiring Xbox 360 Fans, Basic Electrical Help, please.

Ok, So I ripped the cooling fans out of a dead xbox, and I'd like to use them for maybe an airbrush spray booth (depending on how much they suck) and I have some total newbie electrical questions. There are two fans rated at 12 vdc @ 0.4 amps each. I have a ac adapter with the same ratings. If I want these to run at maximum on one adapter, what rating do I need? I'm thinking 12vdc @ 0.8 amps, but I have a very limited understanding of electricity, so I'm most likely wrong. Instruct me, Instructables! Thanks very much!

Reclaiming Wasted heat to make electricity

I work in an aluminum casting facility and we're looking for ways to save energy etc... one thing that we've got no shortage of is heat (during the summer the temp near the ceiling above the furnaces is over 230F) i've looked into stuff like they do in steel mills in Germany where they run pipes through the furnace linings and then use the heat from the furnace to make steam and run steam generators. but i was thinking of something else today. would you be able to just mount a bunch (or one huge) peltier exchanger (or whatever they're called) on the ceiling above the furnaces and use that to make electricity? i'm aware that they create electricity because of temperature differences (and not specifically from being hot or cold in general) so would we have to cool one side of the unit for maximum efficiency? are there any other ways that anyone knows of to turn waste heat directly or indirectly into electricity?

What is my next step to finding electricity over usage?

I need some help! I just moved into a home in Marysville, Oh. Last month we were not living here, had the heat pump set at 65, fridge, and deep freezer and hot water heater were plugged in. Nothing else going, because we were at our other house, packing up. Electric bill came, we used 3200 kwh, I called and had heat pump looked at, everything is running correctly, ugh 150 dollars to find out it was perfect. Electric company came out, meter checked out, and was dead on, actually lagging by 1%. Everyone says heatpumps are more efficient, I lived in Fl for 30 yrs with electric central heat and air, never spent over 900kwh a month on electric bill. This is a small house, 1200sf.. no basement, what should I check next? I bought a kwh meter and tested fridge, its normal ussage, hot water tank is set at 120.. where do i go from here? Also the heat man told me to use emergency when its below 30, I did this for 24 hrs, and used 175kwh, so i switched em heat off!

i was wondering about the effect of gravity on electricity, ?

Hypothetically, one example - would it be easier to send power from beyond the atmosphere to earth, or, send it beyond the atmosphere from earth. or another similar task whereby the scale would yeild a tangible result?
