I've already checked that the cord is fine, it has enough power, and isnt recognized by windows explorer and device manager. AND when I got to Iomega site to get the drivers they say they dont recongze the serial number. What do I do?

Hi there, I am currently working on a project on reverse engineering. I wish to attempt at somehow using an old laptop lcd, as an external display for my smartphone. As an amateur electrician and computer programmer I would love it if someone could direct me and tell me which goals I have to accomplish to make that happen. I understand that the signals coming out of an lcd display are different then on a cell phone so I had found a control board that will transpose the signal into a VGA signal which can then be directed to a computer. But is there a way to send the signal to a usb port for a smartphone to plug into. Granted a program, software and drivers for the monitor ets would need to be created but that aside, could something like that be possible? Please indulge me. Thanks for your time.

I'm not sure if I was searching for the right key words, but I was planning on building a desk with all of my computer components built into it, save the monitor keyboard and mouse, and I wanted to make like a little controller for iTunes that controlls random, repeat, next song, previous song, pause, and play. Like, would it be possible to take apart a spare remote control and use the circuitry and buttons from that to do it? Is it even possible? Also, this will be on a Windows 7 PC

I was thinking of buying an external Camera for a laptop even though it already has an built in cam. I would like to use the external so that I can point it toward a table surface and use it for animation purposes. I was wondering, would the external interfere with the other? Thank you for your answers. -T.T :)

I dopped a 500 GB WD My book and was told by Geek Squad that the drive had crashed (heads on platters) and would take $800 to $2000 to repair. Would you have a cheaper way of doing this or would you know of someone who can do this cheaply. I am in Phoenix AZ

Hello everybody, hope somebody will be able to help me out or point to a right direction. I have about 40 battery candles that I have to change batteries every month. I was wondering what could I do to convert them to candles with power supply connected to a regular outlet so there wouldn't be a need for batteries. I know there are special candles with external power supplies but the ones I found are in thousands of dollar. These candles go inside large candles made from wax that is a reason why I need long wires. I have attached pictures of the candles. What I would like to do is to connect them with long wires to one or multiply power supplies connected to regular electrical power outlet. One candle holds 4 AA batteries. Could someone recommend what power supply and parts I should get to make this happen? Thanks.

Hi. I just ordered this, http://www.amazon.co.uk/IB-864-Front-Panel-Reader-Multiport/dp/B004FLEFVU/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1366146730&sr=8-13&keywords=icy+box , to connect to a psu I have running on it's own, and with the hope of connecting it to the USB port of my laptop and using it as a USB/Card reader extension kind of thing. Now, rather foolishly I didn't think about how I would connect it to my laptop. I know for sure I can connect it to the PSU with the Molex connector, but how could I connect it to my laptop? This is the connection info it has: USB 3.0 - EXTERNAL to the mainboard or USB 3.0 PCI-X extension card via USB 3.0 cable USB 2.0 hub and card reader: INTERNAL to the mainboard via USB 2.0 cable eSATA: INTERNAL to the mainboard via sata cable Audio: Internal to the mainboard via Audio cable Power: Internal to the system power supply via Big-4Pin Molex Sorry if I'm being stupid, but what concerns me is how it says internal and external, I dont really know what it means, like, is an internal USB 2.0 cable different to an external one, and how could i connect it to a standard USB port? Sorry for the long winded probably really confusing post, basically I just want to know how I can connect this to my laptop's USB port to be able to connect USB devices and use USB sticks and read memory cards lol Really sorry for the bad post, but thanks a lottttt to anyone who can help!!

I searched the internet but there is no results (I found some videos where they use a webcam for this but I am no sure if it is the same thing) . So, is it even possible?

I have a bootable back up of my computer and would there be any reason you could not boot off of an external hardrive at school and use all your programs provided you have the drivers for the computer installed.

I bought this sweet looking record player which also has a cassette player at Value World, Indy's largest thrift store. both tape and record player work just fine. It has a small speaker in the front which doesn't sound very loud. I'd like to add a jack where I can plug an external speaker to it. Is this possible to do? I opened the player and it has about a 4 inch speaker with only a red and black wire going to the pc board. I don't know how to solder and was hoping this is something I can do easily. I don't mind learning how to solder or if there are alternatives that's even better! I've been searching all over the world for someone who has done this before but nobody.. I've seen other similar things being done and I'm concerned if I should somehow wire a preamp or some precautions I should take when adding an external speaker. By the way, the speaker I'm using is a Bose Sound Link speaker. I would appreciate some help here. I'm such a nub.

Anyone know of a cheap Digital Video-Camera that has (or can be hacked to support) External / Asynchronous triggering?
Basically, I'm wanting to record something from several vantage-points (tennis-strokes mostly, but it would be relevant for things such as baseball or golf swings as well) using two or more cameras. The problem of recording with multiple-cameras is, if they're not triggered simultaneously, they could be capturing their respective frames at as much as 1/(fps*2) of a second (i.e.;16.7 ms for 30 fps) off from one another; which for many, if not most things wouldn't be a concern. However, since they wouldn't capturing the event at the exact-same moment, the usability of the video information for motion-analysis purposes is greatly reduced. For everything else other than lacking support of external/async. triggering, something like my relatively-cheap $120 ApiTek 60-FPS 1080p Camera (Std-Def would suffice) I picked-up on a whim at Walgreen's would fit the bill quite nicely. While professional cameras do have this feature (also referred to as a Master/Slave Camera Array), this is simply for my personal-use, and I'd have a hard time selling my wife on the idea that I need to spend multiple thousands of dollars on it.

I was thinking today about possible ways to make my pc better without adding internals. (I like external plug and play stuff). So anyway, I was thinking about my RAM and how to make it better. Then it hit me. What if I had external RAM? Possibly using 2 or more USB ports. Any Ideas? This would allow me to run large programs on any PC! Please collaborate.

Hi, I'm one of these people that haven't thoroughly searched these forums for solutions before posting. So - sorry for that in advance! However I have thoroughly searched in the past, but hadn't found what I was looking for, so that's something :-P . If anyone would have the good grace to direct me in the right direction i'd appreciate it :) . I've seen a bunch of 'replace the batteries in your Laptop battery pack' guides, yet i'd like to avoid doing this, and simply use an existing multi-voltage (9, 12, 19v) battery pack I already have - because it's like 16,000mah, and I already take it with me for many other gadgetries already. I was thinking I could take apart battery pack, take out dead cells if possible (or leave in if need be), and wire in an input socket to laptop battery pack so I can plug the external batt directly into the internal battery pack. My WISHFUL thinking is that the charge current going into the battery pack - when normally plugged in and charging would be close enough to what it could get from the external battery pack so I could plug straight into the battery (but could add a voltage regulator from external batt if need be), and the laptop would run as if on battery alone (10.8v 5200mah, 56wh), just for much longer. So i'd be tricking laptop into thinking it's running from the battery, with the current coming from the external battery pack, as opposed to running at 19v 6.32am, as many external power supplies do. Laptop: Asus n53sv, Power brick: 19v, 6.32a Any ideas? Cheers, Morgan

I, like many people, got the new Xbox for Christmas. However, my mom failed to notice that it was the 4GB model, rather than the awesome 250GB. When I realized this, I immediately went online and looked for a 250GB Xbox S Hard Drive, and found that they're $130($0.52/GB)! Well I knew that the Xbox can use flashdrives for storage, etc. so it should treat an external hard drive just like a big flashdrive, right? So I went to BestBuy and bought a 500GB external hard drive for $60 ($0.12/GB- 4.3x cheaper!). Upon plugging this into my Xbox, and going through the configuration process, I see that my Xbox is only picking it up as 16GB. "Are you kidding me? There's a lot more than 16GB on that thing!" I went online, and did some Googling, and YouTubing. All I could find was formatting the drive, and even then only being able to transfer movies, music, etc from you computer. I read multiple times that you couldn't put games or profiles on it(I wanted to do this, so I could transfer everything from my old original Xbox 360 HDD, and then sell it). Could somebody please tell me a way to make an external hard drive work with Xbox 360? I'd rather not format anything, but I will if I must. Thank you!

Hi there! I'm currently working on a project, and I really need some help from you guys. What I'm basically trying to do is putting a Raspberry Pi with Retropie installed into a iMac G5 case (24'') and use it as a Retro-Gaming-Machine. Things I already have: - iMac G5 24inch - Raspberry Pi Model B+ with RetroPie installed - 2 SNES Controller with an Adapter to USB - Cables and stuff And now to my problem: I want to use the iMac's LCD panel (Product number: LM240WU2), which of course requires an inverter as well as a controller board. The inverter is stuck to the panel, and can be used I think. But the controller board seems to be integrated into the Logic Board, so I can't use it. I already found a suiting controller on AliExpress, but unfortunately it's not available. So I'm kind of running out of options where to get one. Does anybody know where to get a working controller? It shouldn't be too expensive, because otherwise I could just buy a 17'' or 20'' iMac G5 and use it, because these are built a bit differently and work just over DVI. I would love to make a Instructable out of the project, in case I'm able to solve that Problem! Thanks, Nick

How do you play audio through both internal speakers (Like an iMac's) and through the headphone port at the SAME time?
I recently purchased an iMac, and I have it hooked up to my flatscreen. I bought an audio cable to connect it along with the HDMI, and is connected through the analog (headphone) port on my computer. I want it to route sound through both internal speakers as well as to my audio cable, but so far I have been unable to locate or acquire the software or settings panel needed. I am running Vista Enterprise 32 bit.

Hello all, I have what may be a dumb question - so hopefully it will be an easy one to answer! I have a couple old hard drives from old computers that I want to put into a case/enclosure to repurpose into an extra external hard drive. When I take exact measurements of the hard drives they are: 4" x 5 3/4' x 1 (W x L x D). I've been looking around for enclosure kits but I don't see any that are 4" in width. I see a lot of 3.5" and not many others besides smaller 2.5" casings. So my possibly stupid question is: Do I want the 3.5" enclosure for my hard drive? I know that sometimes the sizings can be off when it comes to stuff like this. Thanks for the help, RW

I am not looking for how to build the enclosure because that part isn't electrical (an area of expertise where I'm lacking), just how do I power them all because I am fairly certain that the USB port is not strong enough on it's own. Thanks all!
