I cut of my left middle finger tip, and wanted to protect it while healing, and wanted to extend my finger some way so as not to have to retrain my old brain and finger, so did what is shown on the MS Word attachment (Text and photo's showing "how to" with low cost materials). Now to get back to playing the guitar!! Hope this helps someone else by saving time and energy on poor or expensive options.

The bassist of my band quit, and now my I have to be the bassist and vocalist at the same time. I'm pretty good at playing the bass, but I can't seem to stretch my fingers out that long.... Anybody have any idea on how to increase finger-stretching capabilities? Any advice would be appreciated.... Oh and I can't sing properly if I'm playing an instrument, so any advice on how to sing while playing a guitar/bass would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Its from an acer travelmate 5530, i still have the board it was attached to, but the piece itself has 10 pins sticking out of it, there is a chip on the board that the finger scanner was connected to that has a 8 pin chip, then the 2 mouse buttons, and a interface cable. is it even feasibly possible to reuse this fingerprint scanner?

I need a design (better yet an operating) hand held, battery operated bluetooth enabled finger print reader. That is, the bluetooth enabled finger print reader would store one finger print and then compare the person usign the reader to the print stored. If the prints matched it woudl send out an approval code. I am sure someone out there could make one. How can I contact that person?

A Finnish computer programmer who lost one of his fingers in a motorcycle accident has made himself a prosthetic replacement with a USB drive attached.Jerry Jalava uses the 2GB memory stick, accessed by peeling back the "nail", to store photos, movies and programmes. The finger is not permanently attached to his hand, so it can be easily left plugged into a computer when in use.Mr Jalava says he is already thinking about upgrading the finger to include more storage and wireless technology."I'm planning to use another prosthetic as a shell for the next version, which will have removable fingertip and RFID tag," he wrote on his blog, ProtoBlogr.net.Half of Mr Jalava's left ring finger had to be amputated last summer after he crashed into a deer while riding his motorbike near Helsinki. He says he was inspired to create the unique storage device when doctors treating him joked that he should have a USB "finger drive" after finding out that he was a software developer. More is apparently available on the inventor's blog, but it keeps timing out for me.BBC story

Hello good folk I have been working on some artificial finger extensions and retraction via a DC motor. An H-bridge is used which is connected to a dial switch. The tendons are braided fishing line. It has proven worthy during the prototype stage. The advantage of my design is that a single DC motor of servo can control movement and grasping of the entire finger. This design particularly excels when compared to the most advanced models at the moment.... The Shadow hand would be an example. Extremley capable yet the muscle collection to the rear of the hand makes their model obsoliete even before it was created. Much work needs to be done on their model to make it effective. I apologise for the pics (camera phone) as the detail leaves much to be desired. This is just a functional model of the unit, so it's not ment to look pretty. It only purpose is to serve as the concept base as I was trying to get the tendons/joint configuration worked out... You should notice the holes in each section, the tendon passes within the finger segments within a sheath embedded inside the epoxy segment. The tendon is only exposed at the joints which also need to be finished with a exterior protectant layer. I am posting these as an example of the funtioning finger. However I would like to post videos at a later date.

WARNING BLOOD WARNING BLOOD WARNING BLOOD WARNING BLOOD WARNING BLOOD WARNING BLOOD WARNING BLOOD WARNING BLOOD WARNING BLOOD WARNING BLOOD WARNING BLOOD WARNING BLOOD WARNING BLOOD WARNING BLOOD WARNING BLOOD WARNING BLOOD WARNING BLOOD WARNING BLOOD WARNING BLOOD WARNING BLOOD Enough? Good. I am now working on a project that involves soldering. As usual I set up my extremely powerful fume extractor (I didn't make an I'ble on that, a different homemade one...). I never put some kind of protector on it, and today I accidentally stuck my finger in one of the fans. If you're wondering whether you should put a guard on a fan, the answer is yes. Why? It takes a long time to type forum topics with one hand... "Nahhh... I'm going to be careful. Why would I even get my fingers close to the fans?" Picture are in the comments section, in case you want to learn what happens why half of your fingernail gets pulled off...

I'm looking for someone to build me a finger ring that has some kind of vibration/impulse capability that is pre-set to vibrate at certain times and/or intervals throughout the day. I will create a website where the user enters in when, or at what durations, they want it to vibrate. This is then somehow sent to the ring and it vibrates accordingly. Looks are not really important but not being bulky is desirable. Is this possible? Let me know your thoughts and cost estimates and I'll respond asap. Thanks for reading.

Hey, just wanted to let you all know that i broke my right pointer finger. To all of you who like the guns i build, i'm sorry but i cant really build with a cast. I can put easy pieces together and such, but when it comes to snapping in a bunch of connectors i can't do it. I broke it when it got slammed in a car door. (the car is the lexus that i took the pics for my hell slayer on) My stupid sister saw her friend and jumped out of the car to see her and slammed the door just as i was getting out. I was just stepping out and my finger got slammed in the door. i had to go get a freaking splint and it sucks :( I can still make some stuff. I get my splint off in about 2 weeks. Then it will be sore, and i will have to have a wrap on it for another week.

Hi Guys ^.^ Just wondering what is your best trick? hardest trick? and how you do it? Everyone has different techniques so your way could help others do the trick... :) My best / favourite / hardest trick is a triple K-flip into dark slide shuv-it into 5-0 grind with an impossible out. The K-flip I do like a normal kick flip but pop higher / kick harder, also one has to catch it before it makes the 4th revolution. The shuv-it is tricky as it goes 270degrees and 1/2 a flip, fingers go in the center and just behind and under 1 back wheel. Catch it and land manual on the rail then set up for a back foot impossible. Fingers like a K-flip but the back finger more to the toe side so as to hook/pull the board round. Pop hard and swing the back finger upwards while at the same time moving the front finger out the way, as the board comes back round catch with the front finger and land it. Hope it helps anyone stuck with those tricks. Now I want to hear from you! =D Mountain Island xx

My idea is to attach a contact microphone to the wrist to listen to finger-taps and determine which fingers produce the taps. Assumptions: - The tap sound propagates along the bones like in tubes, - Each finger produces a characteristic sound signal. - Pattern recognition of sound signals identifies the sound and the finger that produces it. Any help? Thanks

I've been trying to teach myself the guitar, and so far I've done pretty well with a plastic pick. I've tried finger picking, but it's just hard for me, I don't know. I've been picking the bottom four strings with my fingers, is that the way to do it?

I'm planning on generating the sheet music automatically while playing a piano. However i need to first find a method to differentiate the notes played by the left hand from the right hand. My lecturer suggested i find out the points in the wrist where pressure is exerted when each finger is flexed (left hand). Is there a way to do this simply? Or are there any products, such as wristbands with in-built sensors to sense when a finger is flexed? I only need to know how many fingers of my left hand are used at a particular moment while playing.

Ouch. any suggestions? I have no fingernail WTF. how do i get a missing finger badge? Since writing the above message, I went to the ER and got fixed up. It's been this for a long time, just noticed it when i Compare my hands with someone. I really wouldn't ask this to how to straighten them hard flat and fingers joined. But my Commander in CAT(citizenship advancement training), and many of my fellow cadets noticed it too. I told my commander that it's been this since i was young, he said to flatten it to a wall, its more than 2 weeks on pressing it to the wall and my fingers are flat, except when i lift them off the wall. i got some pics below, tell me if you need more from other angle or something :) Now every time i salute, my fingers is always noticed. Any help? (they even called me tentacles because of it) Cheers! -aye

I have a new food slicer (mandolin) and the included food holder that's suppose to protect your fingers when slicing food doesn't work very well. Any ideas on what to use?? I thought of the squeezie hair clip, or old hair pick, but haven't tried them.

Hi! i'm working on a frog costume among several animals for halloween, and the frog hands have me stuck. The plans are for a red eyed tree frog, so it needs 4 long digits, with slightly larger tips for the distal pads/suckers, and only a small amount of web between the digits. I don't think it will be a problem to settle for 5 fingers, I'm more concerned with length, shape, and the maybe the webbing. Any suggestions or ideas are appreciated. Thanks, David

I've never had this problem until now...here's the story. Well, I was outside the other day, and it was freaking cold out. Probably about 9 degree's F. I was wringing cold water out of a towel (long story) and the cold really hurt my fingers. First my fingers felt cold, then nothing...just this buzzing sensation. Realizing that wringing water out of a towel with bare hands at 9F is probably a stupid idea, I rushed indoors and defrosted my hands with warm water. But all I felt was buzzing, not warm water. Hmm. So today I was melting wax in a soup can in boiling water, and I touched the tin to see how hot it was. It didn't feel hot, so I just grabbed the boiling hot tin of wax and poured it into my mold. The wax dribbled onto my fingers. I didn't even notice it! Later that day it occurred to me that maybe i was having trouble feeling how hot things are, so I experimented. I ran hot water over my fingers, but it didn't feel hot at all. It just feels like my fingers are buzzing or something. Stranger still, if I IMAGINED that the hot water is cold, it suddenly feels cold! If I imagine it's hot, I get that buzzing sensation. It's probably just a temporary condition, so I was wondering if it's ever happened to any of you folks?

How about buying only the iPad-Touchscreen for use on a home made tablet-pc ? Wouldn't it be possible to buy just the glass with the multitouch sensor technology (as if you had an iPad with a broken front glass and wanted to replace it) and use it on a non apple product ??!!! Wouldn't it be cool to build your own "iPad" but with many features the real one does not have ? Thank you for your answers !
