How to wind a flyback converter to use with HHO generator?

I have an electrode made of 304 SS that when hooked to a 12V automotive battery draws about 80A. That is WAY too much amps, and I want to boost the output voltage to 36 or more, and reduce the amps as low as possible. I plan to drive the flyback with a square wave generator. What do I need to know to wind my own coil: what core, size of wire for primary and secondary and how many turns of each? Thanks in advance. I've already found that an ignition coil will not work, unless you know of some way to adapt one so that it will.

How big a propeller would I need to turn a 3500 watt AC gererator?

A friend of mine gave me a 3500 watt gasoline AC generator because he burnt the engine and he did not want to fix it due to cost. I want to use a propeller instead of a gas engine to make it operational. Is this practical? The wind here blows constantly between 20 and 30 mph.

Are the parts in 5th generation iPods interchangeable in spite of differing harddrive sizes?

I have two 5th generation IPods. On the 30gb, the battery needs replaced, and on the 80gb the screen needs replaced along with the motherboard. Is it possible to simply combine the working innards of both iPods into one functioning, 80gb iPod?

Building a genertor? Answered

I have a 5sme22nj028a general electric motor and wanted to buld a generator. It is 10 pin (not including earth). I have used a voltmeter to see what generate but there are many combonations and they all seem to generate. Also it is brushless. I have posted this question before but fogort to include that the motor says varable speed on the side. I was thinking that connecting diffrent pins would make the motor go at diffrent speeds. In my other question someone said that it may need a mirco prosser before it. I think that this is probaly the case but wanted to see if anyone knew about this motor. So if it needs or doesnt need a micro prosessor before it, please tell me. I should be able to work it out from there. Thanks

Battery charger circuit?

Hi, Can someone help with a simple battery charging circuit? It is to be attached to bicycle dynamo to charge the 4 V battery. Now the power generated by the dynamo would be fluctuating depending upon the RPM. So need to build a charger that would ensure constant supply to the battery. Preferably simple and economical circuit as this would be used on some charitable work.

How can I generate multiple text files with different infos for each ? Answered

Hello ! I'm oftenly working on invitation letters to request visas full of infos like passport numbers, adress, dates, names, birth dates, etc ... and also a text which is the same for all letters with the logo of my NGO and a foot with adress of my NGO. It takes a lot of time to change infos on each and I oftenly forgot to change dates or passport number on some invitation letters. I would like to generate text files for this invitation letter where I could choose the input for all the infos which need to change, and choose the text which doesn't need to change for all files. Which software or programming language should I use to make something like this ? I have already searched on google, maybe I didn't use the good terms, but I didn't find anything =( Thank you, Youri

Playstation Portable (PSP) and iPod Nano 4th Generation

I am selling my PSP gaming system, and my iPod Nano 4th generation. Neither have many scratches (In fact, no deep scratches.), but the nano has a chip of paint missing on the side, which I would estimate to be around 1.5mm across. Very unnoticeable. I would LOVE to trade them both for an iTouch, but I would be willing to sell them. If you have any interest whatsoever, feel free to PM me for pictures/further information! Thank you!

VAWT a new way to wind generation

Guys need help to realise its feasiblity and pros & cons. This project will comprise of a renewable energy source which is controlled by TI msp430 controller by closed loop system. This renewable energy source will use a magnetically levitated vertical axis wind turbine with single phase permanent magnet alternator made by our team. There will be 3 stationary wind guide vanes/flaps of concave shape on the outer periphery of turbine. These vanes will be controlled by dc gear motor for constant wind flow and protection against high speed winds. Using perturb & observe MPPT algorithm on DC-DC boost converter, constant DC voltage for GRID integration is made. A lower energy Bluetooth module will send data on user computer about whole system parameter, hence making the whole system to be smart and hence data is saved in database.

Very Small Scale Power Generation in Developing World

Hello Everyone, I volunteer for a non-profit which distributes solar lanterns primarily to students as well as people who are in need of the lights.  Things have been going well but a lot of people have inquired about us providing access to a higher powered version for various reasons and we've noticed that some households go back to their old ways when the lanterns don't receive enough sun during the day.  Temporarily we are solving the problem by having local entrepreneurs charge batteries for the families for a small fee but we feel that this should not be a permanent solution. It's not the price that's the issue it's that sometimes the people have to walk for a number of kilometers to get to the nearest charging station or have to cross dangerous terrain (I have personally experienced this). Over the last 3 years we have helped over 5000 families by giving them solar lights so we would like to modify all those units to have more stable energy generation. Our current version has an output of 5 watts. We are looking to buy or build a unit which produces a maximum 8wh an hour until the fuel source runs out or something that can generate in a more slower rate such as 40wh in 16 hours so we can let it run overnight and have the power stored in a battery. We are primarily a donation driven group so something with low cost and maintenance would be really great.  We highly subsidize the price to a large percentage of the households but we also provide them free for the lowest 10% of households who can't even afford the lowered price. I personally think that something which can generate electricity from hydrocarbons due to their high energy density and easy access would be ideal but I'm not an engineer so what do I know.  I'm not sure if this helps in any way but a number of years ago we transitioned a large number of houses from wood fired stoves to gas and as all the families that we help actually have access to gas I was wondering if any good technology exists where electricity can be generated by gas that can meet the low cost and maintenance criteria.  I've looked into thermoelectric generators but they are really inefficient and people will be wasting money to heat their house in a country where average temperatures are in the 30'sC I also see a future issue regarding battery degradation as we use small lead acid batteries and while thinking of a way to solve this I came up with the following idea and is one of the reasons that I'm posting on instructables. What if a pedal powered flywheel generator was built with a 200W generating capacity and 40Wh worth of 'storage'.  When you pedal you will spin up the flywheel and it will store the energy until you need the electricity again and we could also wire up the solar panel that we already use to spin up the flywheel.  So when the sun is out the panel is used and on rainy days and during the night you pedal for a couple of minutes for one hour of lights.  If the flywheel can store the energy for a number of hours then someone could pedal for a couple of minutes at a time throughout the day and not have to do it at night. This is just an idea that I came up with and if anyone has any ideas I'll be really interested in knowing about it (obviously the above solution is not ideal because they have to put some work into generation but it's the best that I can do).  I've quite recently been looking into different types of fuel cells powered by m/ethanol and others like solid oxide cells and they seem interesting (does anyone here have any experience in building these type of cells?).  This community has a lot of intelligent members who think outside the box so I'm confident that we can come up with something. This ended up being a bit longer than expected and if you've read this far, thank you. I wasn't sure about what section to post this in, square peg is the one I chose out of 5 so if this is wrong please feel free to move it to the correct section. Help and advice will be very much appreciated. Kindest Regards

Movie Error

I was watching the first part of Generation Kill, its about a group of marines during OIF 1, and I was getting all into it and I noticed an error, a Major error. Well just look at the picture. Normally for a vehicle to go, the engine has to be RUNNING. Tactical vehicles have switches to start them. You have off, run, and start. He has the engine off, but yet the vehicle is making noise and its going down the road. Now i know the vehicle is being pulled by a trailer, and the engine is "off" because if it was "on" it would be a crap load louder and everyone would have to scream at each other just to talk, but come on guys at least rig the knob so that it points up right when driving. What movie errors have you noticed that made you upset?

4th Generation Ipod Flash Hack

I am attempting to hack my 4th generation Ipod classic following this instructable. I have assembled everything and when I connect the ipod to the computer the ipod cycles betwen the apple logo (booting), corrupt file logo, and disk mode. Neither my computer or Itunes will recognize the ipod. I am using a DealExtreme 1.8 to cf adapter and a Kingston 512mb cf card (decided to test with it before I invest in a larger one) How can I solve this problem? Is the CF card I am using too small to work on the ipod (it was originally a 20gb)

I have an rss feed from -ible to my reader. I've noticed that there are lots of -ibles that seem like thinly veiled ads.  They talk about a secific 'brand' to solve a problem which I think makes the whole point of the site useless. Is this just because the website can't screen it, is within the guidelines or is a revenue stream for the site. I'm fine with anything, just as long as I can expect as such.

change ipod shuffle (2nd gen) colour

I won a 2nd gen iPod Shuffle from an arcade game at the local movie theatre and I got a purple one. Since I'm so insecure with my sexuality (and I just plain don't like the colour) I'm wondering if there is a way to strip the paint (if it actually is paint) from it. I've looked into other options like the silicon and aluminum shuffle cases but they are kinda bulky.

Can a vacuum cleaner motor generate electricity? Answered

I have a vacuum cleaner motor that runs off straight AC from the wall. I think it's like 120 V AC right?.. anyways it's got a huge amount of toque and i'd like to attach it to a stationary bicycle and pedal it to generate electricity. I know all the instructables for this my only quam is the type of motor. I'm not buying one. This is what I have and furthermore I don't even know if it's like universal i guess they call them..I do know that it is a brushed engine (as in it's not brushless) by the way if you haven't caught it yet my electrical jargin is very weak. Thanks for any help you can give me.-Ask me if you need more info.

5th Generation Ipod repairs

Ok guys I wasn't quite sure whether to post this in the general forums or right here. I figured I would get more help here so here goes. My good friend washed her Ipod video 5th generation so she didn't want it and gave it to me.The only problem that is visible on this Ipod is a broken screen. But the problem that I'm concerned with is not the screen but the hard drive because I don't know if it's still functioning or not. Whenever I plug in the usb transfer cable, and hold the ipod up to my ear I can hear a tiny squeaking sound as if the hard drive is still spinning. I don't really know where to go from here guys so if anyone could offer advice on what to do next to figure out if the hard drive still works or not it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Small heating element, possibly ceramic, to sense and maintain temperature.

I am trying to make a heating element that would only turn on once the element itself reaches a certain temperature. This element, possibly ceramic, would be dormant until it reached an internal temperature from an external source (liquid) of 100 deg F. Once it is triggered, it would produce heat to maintain the liquid at 100 deg F. Ive been trying to figure out the best way to do this and how much power would be required. Say the liquid, well go with water, was 12 fl oz. how would I build a circuit that can be sensing temperature without using power, and once it reaches the desired temp, turns on the heater until the temperature either goes too high or drops too low so that it is not trying to work too hard. Open to suggestions on heating element types or anything that could help with my project. Thanks in advance!
