I used a torch to melt some rich gold ore and it made little gold bbs about 1 grain why did this happen?
I have a rather large amount of this materal with visable gold content i estimate this materal is 40% gold bearing appears to be a flour gold formation. i took a blow torch to the materal and it created a swarm of bbs 24kt and 18kt gold at least half of the stone i melted was gold. Now i attempted the same process over and over and no results were the same the stones are all from the same pocket vein. If some 1 can tell me how to repeat the function with the torch method or another as effective id be happy to send a sample of the materal

I was wondering if anyone knows if the same principles involved in nf119's instructable are applicable to attempting to electroplate something with gold. Also, would the pins of an old CPU (in this case, an old Athlon Thunderbird 1ghz) be made of pure gold that can be used to electroplate? Thanks!

I live near the site John Marshall discovered gold in 1848. There is gold dust and particles everywhere! Problem is that the gold is dust or fine powder form and the gold strongly adheres to it's surrounding ores. Panning is tedious and not effective. How can I separate the gold dust/powder from the other minerals? I have heard using Auger Regis is effective, but cannot find anything on how to use it, purchase it, or make it myself. Any suggestions/instructions on making or using auger regis; or any other more effective method of extracting the gold from the other minerals is greatly appreciated.

I am interested in recycling computers to recover the valuable metals (gold, silver, mercury etc) and I was wondering if I place a bunch of computer conectors and fingers in a copper sulphate solution and ran electrolosis with a copper electrode, would it selectively transfer the copper, leaving the other metals behind. If so it would reduce the amount of acid needed to refine the gold.

I'm working on a simple little design for a present where I have this cheap gold plated signet ring and I'm going to be taking a small portion of those spiral shavings from a piece of brass stock and creating an Archimedean spiral pattern which needs to mate with the face of the ring. The inner metal of the ring is unknown, and due to the thinness of both materials welding seems out of the question. How should I mate these two objects together?

Based on the new "medal" system, I should now have a silver medal for having 10+ featured - I know I've seen this on other's profiles: https://www.instructables.com/community/May-2014-site-update-achievements-new-editor/ My 9th and 10th Instructables were just featured last week, so I'm not sure if there's some processing delay, or if this has to be done manually? Anyway, I demand immediate recognition in the form of fake internet medals! ...kidding, just thought I'd point this out in case it's supposed to be automated and there's a system-wide bug. If there's a delay or it has to be done manually by staff somehow, no big deal.

The mining of jewels is often inhumane, illegal and highly toxic. So think before you sparkle.Whether future heirloom or fun trinket, jewellery is one of life's luxurious pleasures. Even if you aren't decked out in multiple carats, a bit of bling can make you feel a million dollars. But the path your jewellery takes to reach your earlobe, neck, wrist or finger can be harrowing.Worldwide, the people - including about a million children - employed on minimal wages to mine and process supposedly legitimate diamonds, gemstones and precious metals often endure some of the worst working conditions imaginable. Toiling in Asian and African countries with little or no union support means health and safety precautions are slender at best. There's a serious risk of work-related death, injury or chronic illness as workers scratch out a living in remote mines extracting precious and semi-precious stones. This is just one article from the BBC's online magazine Thread, which I have not read before, mainly because "fashion" is not something I generally think about.Thread is the online fashion magazine dedicated to bringing you the latest in eco-fabulous style.Ethical fashion is fashion that has been made, worn and passed on in a way that looks after people, animals and the environment. One person will be randomly drawn after the contest ends on October 21st. This amazing two-wheeled ride is approximately worth $18,750 !

I am a collector and amateur restorer of wristwatches and I have a couple of projects which require purpose made watch cases. This is because they are old pocket watch movements that are typically 40mm plus in diameter and in one case the crown is at 12 o'clock not 3 like a normal wristwatch. The standard OEM watch cases are generally too small and I am looking for something a little more elegant (but still masculine) to show off these beautiful vintage movements and dials (as such I intend to use a crystal back as well as front). I would like to do one of the watches with a yellow gold front bezel (if not a gold body) to set off the gold leaf/plate(?) numerals and hands (on a white dial). The body, lugs and back crystal bezel could be in silver (may even be preferable) as the exposed side of the movement is predominantly white metal with gold train and jewel holes. I have been thinking stirling silver for the main body and perhaps 18Kt gold filled base metal or solid 18kt gold for the bezel. I have no experience with jewellry making and would be very grateful for any suggestions regarding techniques that a keen novice could use to get a professional result. I would also be looking at jewellers screws to connect the 3 pieces. Just out of interest the second movement does not have a particularly interesting or aesthetically worthy dial so I am toying with titanium for the second project...........

How do i separate gold from sulphides without using chemicals or dieing from sulpheric acid? Answered
My freind has a large supply of microscopic gold particles, however they need to be separated from sulphides. there is a high concentration of gold in this solution, and millions of dollars could be made. however, heating the sulphides will make sulpheric acid, which burns away your lungs (also used in chemical warfare). chemicals currently used for the process of separating sulphides from gold are very toxic, and also expensive. the chemical process is very inefficient too. i am looking for a way to separate sulphides from gold without using (toxic, dangerous, expensive, rare) chemicals.

I am making a Wonderbolts Badge and I am using this Instructable as my guide. I've made the badge before and I really want to make this one. I have all the materials to make it, but I want to make this a shiny gold. I can obviously use gold leaf to get the job done, but it's way to expensive. So I'm asking, how do I cover this to make it shiny and golden without breaking my wallet?
