flimsy furniture

My little sister bought the worst/cheapest book case from target. its flimsy the bottom piece was warped, and i had to replace one of the piece of crap plastic pieces that hold the thing together with wood glue, a drill, and a long screw (this piece in fact ended up swaying back and forth less than the rest of the book case) so what I'm interest ed in is ways to reinforce and boost up the quality of the book cases and $30 furniture for as cheap as possible. any one got any thing?

Small improvements to think about

Hi there, Having just published my longest 'ible so far I generated enough thoughts to write some feedback which may or may not be reasonable. Embedding content: I see that .stl files appear nicely with ability to preview and interact with them in 3D, that's great. It's also fully possible to embed Youtube videos and they work just fine. What I'm missing however is ability to embed a circuit from 123D circuits - one of the reasons I used the tool for my last 'ible was because I thought it would sure be possible to embed something made with an Autodesk service. Nope. Adding the iframe makes the view appear while I'm writing the step, yet disappears in preview/publish. Another service I tried to embed was gfycat - they pretty much solve the issue of huge gifs and therefore long load times by some html5 sorcery (I'm not familiar with that). This could save space/traffic of your servers and decrease page load times. It would also be awesome if uploading an .ino, .txt or any other raw text file would automatically generate a scroll box with the code there maybe even already having the formatting and all. Similarly like .stl generates 3D preview. This would save instructables from another possible wall of text, especially on mobile, because now, when I manually add a scroll box with code in it it still appears like regular text on mobile. As an extra - it would make the work of authors easier as well. Instructable layout: First of all - I understand and support the idea of having a standardized format of instructables, if this undermines that - forget and forgive me. What I propose is a way to add pictures mid-step to avoid walls of text, since somehow making a new step doesn't always feel appropriate or maybe it's just a personal issue I need to get over? Just say if it is so. At least having a way to remove the "Step #:" when making a new step allowing to have pictures mid-step would help. Before you mention it - I know that it is possible to add pictures mid-step using html, but that compromises visibility on mobile, so I try to avoid that. Statistics: After hitting over 50k views in just a few days with my bottle upcycling 'ible I wanted to at least try and replicate that with my other ones. However, when I click the statistics button I have these empty lines next to the visitor count, often the lines with the biggest numbers. While I can guess where most of the views came from it's still massive guesswork and I'm probably wrong in the end anyway. i.e. in that particular case I got over 30k views on my imgur album, my blog post got featured under DIY tag in tumblr and then got some upvotes on reddit as well. I know that your SEO is pretty good from the amount of 'ibles I get as first google results, but fixing statistics has a potential to drive even more traffic for you. I probably forgot something else along the way, but that's it for now. I hope someone bothers to read this and says what she or he thinks. Cheers, Raitis Disclaimer: This is meant as feedback and some ideas for improvement as seen from my point of view, not complaints, not even real critique. Read, think and move forward.

Increase running speed

I don't run very much. I never was all that good at it. Lately, though, I have found the need to improve that ability, specifically my endurance at speed. I can slowly jog a mile, sure, but haulin'-ass-away-from-an-amgry-man-with-a-knife-speeds don't last much longer than thirty yards, if that. I'd like to improve my overall speed if possible, and especially increase the distance that I can cover flat-out before I keel over. I'm not going to be running a marathon anytime soon, but I'd like to be able to get farther than average, as fast as possible, on demand. Any tips for training or proper form? I live at roughly 5400 feet, but I'm just a short drive away from 14,000-foot peaks. I would also like to improve my off-the-line times--in other words, acceleration. If I were to need to run between ten and twenty-five yards, I can do that at my top speed as is, but that speed is not as fast as it could be. I'm generally not even up to full speed until eight or ten yards past the line. Suggestions?

Is there a cheap/free way to make the speakers on my cheap work stereo sound better and have more bass?

I work in a factory so when I needed to buy a radio I went with the cheapest thing I could find at Walmart cause there's no sense spending lots of money on something thats gonna be completely covered in dust/fiberglass/etc. So of course the speakers are rubbish but I wanted to know if anyone knew a cheap or hopefully free way to improve the sound quality or more particularly the amount of bass they produce. Thanks in advance for any help, Jake2k

Fixing a wall-wart?

Hi, I have a wall-wart that is working but I'm having some problems with it. It coverts 220AC to 10VDC with 1,3A current. I've been using it mainly to power up 8cm PC fans. Recently I opened it up and saw that below the diodes, board has turned black and it seems fried, that can be from excessive heat generated by diodes, and part of the transformer that was facing this diodes is melted (as you can see in pictures). I think diodes are 1n4005. 1- my first questions is, why these diodes got this hot ? should I change them with diodes that can pass more current?  I have RL205 will that work? 2- I've read somewhere that after rectifier bridge, if capacitor's capacity is high, it will put pressure on diodes and transformer, is this true ? or we can use any high capacitor we can find ? 3- Is there a law by which we figure out how high our capacitor should be after rectifier bridge in wall-warts ? for example If I had a wall-wart with 1000mF capacitor, can I change it to 2200mF ? 4- I am going to use this wall-wart to power up a 7805 regulator, so that I can feed a lithium-ion battery charger module (4056). This module uses 1A. should I put a high value capacitor like 470mF or more, at regulator's input, or is it unnecessary cause of my wall-wart having a high capacitor ? 5- Are they any ways that I can improve this wall-wart ? like if I keep the transformer cool ,when it;s under load ...maybe add another capacitor ... ?

The Clinic

Welcome to the clinic, a place to get help and constructive criticism on your projects. Here's a brief intro on what it is, written by AngryRedhead: "Some Instructables don't get the attention that they deserve. Many times the reason boils down to presentation, and if the presentation is off in one way or another, an Instructable might flop no matter how wonderful the project is. The presentation of an Instructable requires a certain set of skills which involve story telling, technical writing, planning, and photography. Even the most experienced technical writers and photographers still benefit from an edit or an outside opinion. As an author, it's difficult to see the flaws and errors because your thoughts and experience fill the gaps that might leave readers puzzled. It happens to every author. If you feel you have an Instructable that isn't getting the attention that it deserves and you would like some ideas on how to improve its presentation, please post a link to it! We're not here to tear it apart or to tell you that you're the most horrible, stupidester person in the whole wide world. We're here to give you ideas for improvement and hopefully get you more attention and recognition for your project ideas. Think of this like editing or proofreading which is something everyone needs regardless of experience, intellect, and knowledge. If you would like ideas on taking your idea to the next level and making it bigger and more awesomer, please say that you would like this extra advice. You can even post a link to an unpublished instructable if you like, but just remember, please check out the featuring checklist first since this will tell you all of the things that the best instructables have." So... that's what this forum topic's for. There's a team of seasoned Instructables authors watching this topic, waiting to give you help!

Instructables android (ios) app - improvement ideas

I'm making this topic in order to make people come forward with their ideas for improving the instructables android and ios app. So if you have any ideas for improving the app functionality, overall space requirements, app features or anything else please come forward. As a start I would like to name a few features: - I would really like a "clear cache" button and an option to cache to a SD card; - I have no idea if this is done, immediate project updates between the app and online profile of the user that is logged in; - immediate comment updates when someone comments on a project and all relevant project updates (e.g. when a project is featured), also definable by the user; - a popup that comes up when you press back button on the main screen stating "press again to exit". That is all from me now. I'll be back with more ideas (I think). Join and let's make the app much more user friendly and customizable.

Copy and Improve

Just Like on thingiverse I think people should have options to make their own copies and improvements of Instructables. People should be able to flag instructables as copies or improvements in case the author didn't realize and when you are browsing instructables the copies should have their own tab like videos and slideshows so that they don't get in the way.

home made airsoft improvements

Hey.... i tryin to think of ways to improve my guns... I have 2 spring rifles (a good sniper and a crappy assaultish style) and 1 pistol (also spring)... it would be much appreciated if someone could make an instructable that would allow you to make a bipod that does not use tape to attach to gun (folding = happy), as well as a pistol that isnt a pen gone blowgun. add any other improvements also, such as your own scope rings that attach to weaver rails.

A great way to improve groups........

Here is a great idea to improve groups. anybody in a group can add ibles to that group, even though they are not moderators and the owner is not a group member. my ible got added to the "worst instructables ever" group, and I can't remove it. so, I was thinking that when somebody tries to add someone else's ible to a group, a request will be sent to the author to confirm or deny. good idea, huh?
