New Prototype Knex Guns

Hello fellow knexers!   Today I bring what I've been working on for the last couple of weeks ( and another picture of Zip3 ). I think some of these guns are post worthy and some aren't, so instead of previewing them all separately I've made this forum topic to help me decide what guns you'd like me to work more with, post, or just disappear. So I added the video to show all the features of the guns and also to help bridge the gap I'll also say a little about each of them in this description.       Project Eject. A handgun that eject shells. It shoots blue rods that have spacer shells on them and it increases the guns efficiency and range.      Project Break Action, Break action knex gun with shell. It can shoot pretty much anything including oddammo, with really good range.     Project Precision an assault rifle that bridges the gap between war guns and models. The gun is capable of holding a lot of elastic while shooting well indoors and outdoors. Also has slightly better accuracy due to the long barrel that I lined with micro knex to make it thinner, but not restraining.           Project Micro, a knex gun that uses Micro knex to the fullest, mainly to make the gun four layers thick. Micro knex have similar thickness to a blue spacer, so about half a classic knex piece thickness. I feel that micro knex can push knex guns further and in a more innovative direction, so building this gun was mainly to show that it was possible and a decent idea. The one thing I learned though was that micro knex are a little thicker than the blue spacer so I'll use more micro knex to fill the gun next time.                       So that's what I created over the last few days. I'd like to hear what you knex gun gurus have to say about it and if I've created anything your interested in.   Thanks for looking! JonnyBGood

Zip Review

Alright, so I just made JonnyBGood's Zip Mk1 today, and decided to do a review on it. I recommend that before you make this gun, please read my review as some of your questions may be answered. So without further adieu, let's start. @Range- Not Bad, but cannot be termed as good. It is VERY inconsistent as well. The range that I got with one rubberband on this gun was  5-20 feet. It is quite good for its size though. 6/10 @Looks- The looks of this gun is awesome. It looks really 'sci-fi'ish. 9/10 @Durability- Really strong and well built, does not break easily. Point to be noted that the handle-stock(ish) connection is flimsy, needs some work, but I can live with it. 9/10 @Pieces- The piece count of this gun is a bit too high for its size. And not to mention the 3 broken rods. 8/10 @Comfort- This gun is very comfortable to hold and will not hurt your hand. 10/10 @Rate of Fire- Well, a 3-4 shot gun can not have a true ROF but if the hopper was extended, it would have a helluva ROF. No marks as stated above. @Functioning- Almost perfect functioning, but I guess the blocking mechanism fails sometimes, but rarely. 9/10 The Verdict- 51/60 (pretty solid) It is a well built gun that could use some polishing but in the end, it could be one of the BEST secondary gun there is or even a nice primary. The gun overall is cool and I would suggest you to build it! Also check out JonnyBGood's page and his other stuff! Note- These are my views of the gun and if you think that I am wrong at some point, comment or PM me! Hope you enjoyed the review!

Custom Painted Nerf Guns (Looking for Offers)

Hello!  I'm JonnyBGood, and I'm looking to accumulate some offers for my custom painted Nerf guns. I don't plan on going as far as commissions, I just want to see if there's any interest in my work for the right price. As of right now I'm mainly checking the market, before fully investing in making more custom Nerf guns. When making an offer, please send me it in a PM and make sure to consider that I've spent a minimal of five hours of painting. Also consider the cost of the blaster and the time required to make modifications. In my state, the minimal wage is around 8$ so I will ignore any offer that has me literally working for free. I hope that this works out and I receive a lot of reasonable offers so I can start painting, and then I will definitely get back to everyone who has sent me an offer.  Thanks for checking out my latest endeavor, and I hope my received feedback allows this to be successful!  JonnyBGood

Futuristic Concept Guns that may be worth a Build with your twist!

Ahhh... I feel sometimes the k'nex gun builders community lacks a bit artistic visions, so I scraped the worldwide web for some images that would pump some artistic juices into the community. With no offence to our replica builders out there, (you guys are awesome at what you do!) but I feel that building a k'nex gun is an art. Trying to create that right balance of flow of a gun while incorporating a twist that catches the persons eye is a challenge, a skill, and I feel may be a bit more challenging than making a replica. With replicas you have the comfort of a defined shape and measurements, when guns like these (some virtual, I know one is real, the harmonica gun) are built to be within a similar scale but again with that unusual and pleasing twist of the imagination.  Again I don't mean to offend anyone with the idea that replicas are not cool, replicas are awesome and I find it really hard to stay within a replicas measurements (more power to the people who can). I would just like to see some more unique visions of the builder. Build a gun that defines you and your vision of what a great gun looks and feels like. Then make it perform how you want it too. It's a complex process capturing the beauty of a well crafted k'nex gun through not only aesthetic appearance, but physical performance. These unique guns are what defines us as a K'nex gun community, a community of artists.   At the end of the pictures, I've included a couple of my best Art. (two which didn't perform as planned but nailed appearance)

SRV-3 The Concept Review with JBG's SRV-3

Hello fellow iblers’! I’m JonnyBGood and today I decided to post a review of the SRV3 concept. Be sure to note that this is not KILLERK’s official version but a close knock-off. I did not use the same bands or the exactly same mech. I also did not make side covers or the monopod so don’t judge his version based on my model. I also never shot it outdoors so ranges are a complete guess, but I will say KILLERK’s ranges are very believable since I witnessed them at Knex War 2013. So now with all that gibberish out of the way what exactly am I reviewing? Well I’m reviewing the concept, the ratchet mech, trigger mech, and any other part that contributes to the guns function and ergonomics. Okay so now let’s start with the ratchet… Ratchet- After the first use of the gun, I couldn’t imagine trying to load the gun without it. I did try loading it without using it and ended up spontaneous launching it in random directions, something you don’t want to happen with a gun this powerful. (Luckily the wall I hit was cement) The ratchet concept is really what makes the gun usable for people of any age, height or strength so I definitely think KILLERK did a great job designing this feature. Trigger- Well I willingly admit this part is the most different from KILLERK’s version, but it does rely on the same concept of the round being held in by a clamping force. I was actually the most concerned about how this would work because to me holding back a force that could send a yellow rod through a door with a clamp didn’t quite make sense to me.  I will saw after building it I now don’t doubt the clamps capability to hold the round, and now it also makes sense as to why he used a clamp. The clamp trigger mech allows for a very light trigger pull due to the pivot point being so close to the ammo, so the slightest pull moves the clamp up.  SRV-3 trigger is definitely one of those surprising concepts, being that the most powerful gun on instructible’s has one of the lightest trigger pulls I have ever used. Random other things- The ratchet and trigger were the two concepts which to me stood out the most for the SRV-3 concept but there are many other things about the gun which I will cover here. The Handle- So surprisingly enough it is actually pretty comfy, and it’s mainly built to hold the heaviest knex gun I have ever built. On the other hand, I wouldn’t try lifting this gun by just the handle, but why would you? You are definitely not going to akimbo these things unless maybe the handles were moved more toward the front of the gun, and then held like an RPG, but again why would you even want to akimbo or hold it with one hand? It’s a sniper rifle! The Dimensions and some other random things- Alright I bring dimensions up here because I think it’s one thing to see pictures and another to actually know how big this is. If you stand it on end it’s about six feet tall and it’s a yellow rod wide, so ten layers wide. (if you filled in the center which you would not do).  Again as I ranted about earlier this is what makes this gun so heavy but it’s required for the amount of power it’s capable of. You would also add another two layers if you wanted to make it more presentable so it could be 12 layers wide if you want it to be. Another thing that I noticed on my version was that the gun bows toward the end.  Granted I’m not sure as to why or if I was missing a support somewhere but it wasn’t a problem just something I noticed. The only other thing I was planning on reviewing the accuracy but if anything was relevant it is that I suck at shooting accurately! XD I can’t even shoot guns I build accurately so, a guy who is much better at creating coverfire, will not be giving an accuracy score. I will say the sights allowed me to shoot a 8 ½ by 11 sheet of paper from ten to twenty feet relatively easily, so they do help. In conclusion I would recommend you build the SRV-3 if you have the pieces for it. I would especially recommend it if you haven’t built one of KILLERK’S SR’s before because the power will blow you away. It is deffinitlly the king of the slingshot platform for now and probably until an SRV-4.   ( I apologize for the poor picture quality but it would not fit in my normal picture taking spot and there's still too much snow outside for outdoor pictures. Sorry!)

Competitor's lost touch?

So I've known this for awhile and to be honest it doesn't bother me to badly but my Zip series is much more popular than my Competitor series. The first Zip has more views than my first Competitor which has been out for months, but I do realize the philosophy out with the old, in with the new so I could see the original Competitor collecting dust, after all, it doesn't even have a mag lock! Anyway the main reason I'm starting this forum topic is to find out what you like about the Zip series. Has it been the concepts I have been applying in each pump action model? Was it the styling, which was more spontaneous and sci-fi? Maybe it was a hidden preference for the ergonomics of pump action. The truth is, I don't know and I want you knexer's to tell me what you like or dislike about my Zips and Competitors. Using this information I will be able to build a better Competitor or maybe just refocus on building Zip4.

Advise and help needed

Hi!, Well this is my Spring Break week gun project, not quite done yet but I wanted to know if anyone could help me figure out how to get this working well. When firing the gun it can sometimes get 30 feet of range, but horribly fails alot to with some not coming out of the barrel. I was planing on useing a more tr-18 ish mech but it was two wide for the space I wanted it to fit in. I will continue trying to fix this thing but until then advice would be nice. I also don't know what to name this thing either so suggestions would be good too. Overall I think I made a cool gun, that is a little more artistic than realistic, but I really like that about it. I also think that the clip mech is a good standerd for a barrel mag, just don't make it centerless like I did. Thanks, JonnyBGood

Second Semester Car Drawings

Well, the second semester is pretty much over and I'm getting hit hard with last second work so I figured I would put these up now for some input. If you didn't see my first semester drawings please do, but if you did you know that my company that I band all these designs to is called Veloci. Veloci is the name of the car company I would own someday in the very far future. If you like what I drew and are going to make one of these, tell me. I don't really care if you do make one but I would like to see how it would look in real life or scale size. As far as the cars here I designed: A pickup truck designed like a Bugatti Veyron, Dboye82 's H-pulse concept, Ford Focus ZX3 with Lambourghini styling, a semi-truck, and my company's first golf cart! Please tell me what you think of my cars and if you have any suggestions for cars feel free to comment. I always like new/unique ideas.

Nerf Modifications and Paint Jobs.

Hello, I just thought I'd share the last few months of completed work with my fellow makers! I'm addicted to modifying and painting Nerf guns now because its something you put a lot of time into that is used regularly. It doesn't gather dust or become a paper weight like my previous model car hobby.  Anyway enjoy, and thanks for looking! More pictures can be provided if you're interested. JonnyBGood

JonnyBGood's Other Hobby

Well this may seem out of place in the K'nex forum, but since I am a member of the group I think this still applies. For the last couple of months I've been pretty inactive as far as my K'nex building has been concerned but as you can probably see from the pictures my time was being completely consumed by my Nerf hobby. Let me also state this while I'm at it.... No this does not mean I've stopped K'nex building, I've just been sidetracked for awhile. My reasoning for moving to Nerf is mainly because of a resolve I made at New Years to start tinkering with electronics, and of course I wanted to keep shooting projectiles so Nerf was perfect. It also allowed me to participate in more wars, again I love K'nex and I look forward to our once a year K'nex war, but one isn't quite enough for me.  Nerf also gave me one other edge that I wasn't getting with K'nex, and that was a marketable product. Kids are willing to pay on average (based on me stalking ebay for a month) 40-80$ depending on gun and paint job quality. So I have a possible source of income custom painting Nerf guns.  When should I expect another K'nex ible'? Well I have one last Nerf build I really want to do ( rapidstrike uzi ) and after that I will refocus of getting some war guns together for the K'nex war this year.    So in summary, that has been what I've been up too. If you like any of my work and would like to make an offer I will gladly consider anything reasonable, so send me a PM. I plan on eventually selling "Vanguard" themed white Strongarm's because I can paint those relatively quickly. The Rayven Roughcut integration ( Mine is called the Universal Remote) is my piece de resistance right now and I'm insanely happy with how it's going. If you know a friend that may be interested in my work, I'd appreciate any referral. Also note that I'm not doing any commissions.... yet. I'm kind of addicted to the art of making a well painted and functioning Nerf gun right now.  Thanks for reading, more K'nex projects coming soon!     JonnyBGood

The Knex Shooting Price Gun.

Hello! I'm JonnyBGood and this is my future knex project/challenge. I work at Familly Dollar now and I use one of these price guns sometimes to put anti-theft stickers on mechandice. They are very comfortable to hold and are easy to use so I thought maybe I can use the format to create a k;nex gun. I am working through another project right now but I will work on this project when I am done. I just thought it would be fun to share my idea and see what other people think of it. Please make suggestions if you have any and if you have time feel free to try to make one yourself!

Overkill Modification Kit: Deviance. R5 Defiance Mod

On July 13, 2014, the unofficial yet famous K'nex war will take place in Freemont Ohio and luckily this year I coming back a veteran. With all the experience and advice I got from last years war I will be a stronger competitor this year, with more powerful and sturdy knex guns. With all the fun and preparation involved in getting ready for a knex war it made me think of all the iblers who don't get to come down to Ohio for the war, so I decided to try one of my ibler's war guns at the knex war.      I ended up building the Red Book of Westmarch's R5 Defiance, A bolt action K'nex gun specificly designed for K'nex wars, and while he admitted he hadn't tried it at an official war he had tested it rigorously so he knew it war reliable. My stock version worked really well, it hit the range that Red had showed and it was pretty reliable. As you can easily tell by my final product, I changed practically everything about the gun. Why? Why would I do that if I was happy with it? Well there's a small difference in being happy with something and being confident with something. While the R5 was very reliable, I had trigger issues and a little chambering issue.          That also being said I also have an engineering saying that goes building something is easy mindless work, making something your own, that takes skills. So I made my R5 my own and changed everything but the magazine and general body. I added: a new trigger mechanism that increased pin draw ( the stock pin draw was fine too), magazine lock ( I have a vendetta against friction in K'nex guns.. ),  Upper chambering mechanism (because it makes the chambering smoother in my opinion), and a barrel (which prevents yellow rods from tumbling end over end).    My modifications only increased the reliability and the overall functionality of the gun. I would definitely recommend building the R5 Defiance because it's a great gun and it'll definitely help you in a knex war. Like any gun though, try it out and make it your own before using it in battle! Anyway thanks for reading and if you have any questions I'll be around.     JonnyBGood            (also if your wandering why I didn't break this up into paragraphs, instructibles doesn't let me use the return key for some reason. Sorry for the huge paragraph of rambling!)

My First Semester Drawings

Hello!            Every school semester there is some downtime when I just draw cars. I don't have my normal critics this year because I am at college now so I figured I would see what the instructable community thinks of my cars. If you like aerodynamics and fast looking cars you should like my style. Also as you can tell I made up a car company to put all my cars under called Veloci. If I do have that car company in the future that's what it would be called. Anyway more to the point let me know what you like or don't like about any of these and I will try making a better batch this semester! Thanks! JonnyBGood [Please note not all of these cars are finished drawings! Some I just ran out of the inspirational drive to finish them.]

TR-8 Aftermarket kit, TR-36 "Overkill"

I know this works for cars, so I decided to put an extreme spin on KILLERK recent TR-8. The majority of the body is based of the TR-8, but as you can see I added a little different styling to the handle which is also used to support the heavy turret. I added a bit more of a stock to the original but kept the mechanics the way they were. (can't mess with perfection) The turret itself has a ratchet, similar to the TR-8 which allows the turret to only "wind up" in the correct direction. The turret is also attached the same way as the TR-8 with a socket joint in the grip of the gun. I threw some tactical rails on the sides of the gun to try to hint at capability with attachment but the turret is kind of blocking any attachment you would put there. Overall the TR-36 Overkill feel awesome (heavy) and with that phenomenal power and range you would expect from any turret gun. Tell me if you're interested in an ible' and I'll start working on making one.  Thanks for looking! JonnyBGood

Competitor Rival III AMR Contest gun

Alright, since my orangeboard has decided to revolt against me posting pictures on it I will post them here. Unlike the Springbreaker, this gun is fully functional and working perfectly. The Competitor Rival III is an Adaptive Magazine Rifle meaning you can shoot more types of ammunition with one gun. I made it so magazine well is adjustible so it can shoot sizes ranged from gray connectors to yellow rods. I have pictures here of it's blue rod magazine and it's yellow rod magazine. Why do I have pictures here you may ask. Well, I haven't built a rifle since, hmmmm....., Springbreaker? Anyway I want to know what you think of it and if it really does look as good as I think it does. Also how to take better take pictures of it (I'm so use to making handguns and submachine gun sized guns!). What angles should I try, so it shows off the most detail because as you can see it was kinda hard. Anyway thanks for looking and commenting, this will be posted in the contest with Competitor III so good luck! Is it possible to make a flying model plane with mainly knex? Answered

I have been trying on and off with the idea that the next generation knex, which are smaller and lighter would make a great plane. I realize that it will need something to cover the wings and a propellar but I think it may be possible. Any other ideas, thoughts, or tips are muchly appreciated.

DAM

My final product! It's pretty DAM awesome! Directional, Attack, Mine aka DAM! Looking forward to making a video and instructable soon! Be on the lookout for my DAM K'nex mine! Just a few stats... Uses 30 size 64 rubber bands to shoot 50 pieces up to 100ft at the slightest pull of the trip! I really had a lot of fun with this build I hope everyone that gives it a try will too! Big thanks to JonnyBGood for inspiring the design of the stand. I was able to use his idea and turn it into this great stand with 5 adjustable angles for different angles of attack depending on range of intended target and ground terrain or angles. All around this is an incredibly fun weapon to add to the arsenal.

K'NEX SL8

Hey guys! Well, a couple days before BM and I posted our BM59 PARA, JonnyBGood asked me to build a SL8. At first I had a mind to turn him down, as SW already had an amazing one, but, in the end, I took him up on his offer, and this SL8 is my first installment. I am not quite finished with it yet, and it could use a bit more work, but over all, it is almost finished. I don't have much time to write about this gun now, so here is the features list: Features: Nice and sturdy Carry handle Great pin pull Looks boss with scope Great range: 50 - 60 ft. Nice stock Looks just like a SL8 (IMO) Well, that is all for now. Tell me how I could improve it before I post it. -The Red Book of Westmarch

Full Auto M1A1 Thompson Sub Machine Gun

Well this is a little something I put together mainly for show, but also for my grandfather who wanted a full auto tommy gun! Ever since knex war 2013 he thought the Mepain's shotgun turret was a tommy gun and he thought if he got it working correctly it would be full auto and mow everyone down! Little did he know, even due to my best attempts at explaining what it is, how it works, what knex guns are actually capable of doing as of this year, he still full out believed that the tommy gun would destroy everyone. Well now his grandson has built a full auto M1A1 Thompson for show and tell this year, and even though it's very war pratical or strategic at any war scenario, it does show how far we really are from full auto weapons. Although we're an innovative a we will figure it out... eventually. So let's keep up the good work and keep innovating!                                     Now, let me quickly tell you how it works. It's priamarily based of King Louis XIV's full auto mechanism, which is also used in KILLERK's current project DAM. So my version is more closely related to DAM because it's trap based mechanism, you pull the trigger and a little arm pushes a gray connector out of the way, the hatch opens and gray connectors come flying out at a range of about 20 feet. So nothing new or super innovative, just another spray and pray weapon.            Special thanks to Zombiekiller for making the ible for the body, without it I wouldn't have been able to pull of such a good looking Thompson, mainly because I am not a replica maker. Zombiekiller makes a lot of great replicas just waiting to be made into shooting knex guns so I highly recommend checking out his ibles if you haven't already.              Alright thanks for checking out this forum! feel free to leave your thoughts and opinions in the comments below!    JonnyBGood

SRv3

I plan on using this forum to show off the SRv3 and get others to help me finish the project. JonnyBgood is right now working on building the SRv3. It is my hope that together along with help from others on the site can continue to make this gun project a more complete more beautiful gun. The gun as is... is capable of shooting 500ft with my fin ammo and bands pictured. If you have the pieces and some eye protection I highly recommend you build the gun and help finish the project! I can not ever take full credit for my work since I learn not only from my past builds and ideas but also from each and everyone on this site and KI. I want to thank everyone for there many ideas and awesome builds that keeps me motivated to come back again and again to check in on the builds. I can't wait to see what this gun becomes. I plan on one day posting an ible once the gun is further along. I hope you all enjoy watching the progress and help be apart of it!

DarkOwlKnex's Project Update Two

As my profile status has said for a while now: I've been working on a TR8 and I might post a forum topic about it.  This is the forum topic about it.  It's amazing how often I've been on lately, but don't expect that in the future.  I sort of don't have anything else to do with my time other than going to the library, taking walks (It's nice out where I'm at) and a few other things, but the bulk of my time, for the week, has been spent here.  Stuff I have to do will keep popping up from here on out.            I call this custom  TR8 of mine The AutoSuggestion.  Why?  Because it's the name of this one song that I like.  I realize that I should send a link to the song, but I figure since you guys won't like it anyway, what's the point.  (I have a weird taste in music) It Features: A comfortable stock. A comfortable handle.   A comfortable fore grip. Innovative new TR body design. I can't really say anything else about it until I'm finished; once I finish, I can you tell about the range, and other things.  I'm going to have to make many cosmetic changes before I upload it to the Rods and Connectors contest.  (Thanks, JonnyBGood for alerting me of this contest)  Any helpful suggestions as to what I can do to improve it would be much appreciated.  Thanks for viewing! Update: I finished the rough draft; the pictures will now show the latest version; it is now on the official prototype phase.  I'm probably just going to tinker with it excessively until it's perfect for the Rods & Connectors Contest. Update: Made it fire; gets decent range so far.  Installed turret rotating system; it requires bands, but is very easy to use.  Update: Cleaned up stock and barrel area.  I also made a completely new handle.
