Hi Everyone, I am trying to add some links to my instructable, but am unable to get the link button to work. I enter the URL along with the text, and when I click insert, nothing happens. Does anyone know how to make this work? Or how to add URL links? Your help is hugely appreciated! Thanks!

Hello fellow Makers! I've been following Instructables for few years but only started to become an active member in the last year and have been posting few ibles. So I'm a newbie in this stuff. A problem I had is that whenever I add a link in the editor, I cannot make it to open the link in new tab. What I normally do, I add the link, give a name to that link, and tick on the box at the bottom that says "open link in new tab" and press insert. However after saving the draft and publish it the link didn't open in new tab (I'm using Chrome). It open in the same tab instead. Am I doing something wrong here? -clueless soul-

Is there a way to change the three "More by" links that appear with my instructable? I would like to have them point to my best work. Thank you.

In the instructables newsletters I receive, links for the initial Featured item work but all the other links in "Editors Picks" do not function. (It was working before?) I have Windows 10 64 bit. I am using Firefox 44.0.02 and Thunderbird 22.214.171.124 to read emails. To view the instructables that interest me I have to do a search on the website it is annoying. edmond

. When on https://www.instructables.com/you/subscriptions?type=comment , when I click on someone's comment synopsis it will take me to the appropriate page and "auto-scroll" the page to the comment (eg, / #xxxx). It would be nice if this happened everywhere. . Along the same vein: It would be nice to have links on pages similar to https://www.instructables.com/community?categoryGroup=all&category=all that go straight to the most recent comment.

Is it only me or the links in the newsletter haven't been working later? This is what I get when I click on one: http://l.php/?u=http%3A%2F%2Fapp.streamsend.com%2Fc%2F17067689%2F443173%2FIr3Vszr%2FBfu4%3Fredirect_to%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.instructables.com%252Fid%252FMonkey-Brain-Cake%252F&h=OAQGbxk8g&s=1 And chrome kindly telling me that "Oops! Google Chrome could not find l.php". Is the problem on my side or on instructables' side?

When clicking the links in the email newsletter, nothing happens. No error message. The only areas in the email that Outlook recognizes as "clickable" (i.e. where the pointer turns into a hand) are the arrow icons, but nothing happens when clicked I don't have this same problem with other emails. My email client is Outlook 2013 on Windows 7 x64 and my default browser is the latest version of Firefox. If I click "view in browser", it seems to work, but that opens the email in Internet Explorer. Thanks

Hi, I am a beginner and I created an account a couple of days before, there are few basic things I would like to know. Kindly bear with me if they feel silly, please guide. I would like to know : Can I post a link in my instructable for the readers which could direct them to popular website like Wikipedia or GitHub (One of the Largest Open Source Community) or someone's personal blogspot for gaining more information on a topic? Can I post a link for download of a free software for readers related to the project I made instructable on? for example a free software to help readers calculate LED resistance? I would highly appreciate guidance, suggestions. Thanks AMK

The email I received today shows links, but the links do not connect. The link for the 'Featured' project works.

Is it still possible to download PDF instructable with clickable links? I know it used to ask you to choose what to include in the pdf file and the links were clickable. Now it's just simple text and photos and hyperlinks are removed. Thanks.

Every instuctable link I select redirects me to a "Sorry, we just can't find that one! - We're sorry, the URL xxxxxxxxxxxx is either incorrect or no longer available. Maybe you are looking for one of the following Instructables below." And when I click on one of those I get the same message.

. Some, but not all, links in comments are right-justified and on a line of their own. I think this is happening when someone pastes a URL but does not make it into a link, but that's just a guess. Just a cosmetic bug; doesn't seem to affect anything but formatting. . Here is a URL (not linked): https://www.instructables.com/community?categoryGroup=all&category=all . Here's one on a line by itself: https://www.instructables.com/community?categoryGroup=all&category=all . Here's a link: https://www.instructables.com/community?categoryGroup=all&category=all . On single line: https://www.instructables.com/community?categoryGroup=all&category=all . Hmmm. None of those do it in the preview. . Win XP Pro SP3, FF 3.6.3

I've been a lurker for a while now and I am currently writing my first Instructable. I'd like to be able to include an Excel spreadsheet which I developed to help design the item I am writing about. I have uploaded the file but it seems that the site treats it like a picture. Is there a way to include a link to a file you have uploaded so that the reader can download it and use it? I could always upload it to a file sharing site or Google Docs and link to it there but I feel there must be a way to do it withing the Instructables site. You'd have a similar need for things like CAD drawings or code files.

I love getting the email from Instructables showing new things I can build. Unfortunately clicking on the links from within the email sends my computer into a tizzy. My computer locks up. If I wait long enough, part of the page shows up and then it blanks out completely and tells me the page couldn't be found. Ocassionally another website shows up instead!!? Perhaps it's because my connection is slow, though I don't have this problem with other links in my email. And I don't have this problem if I go to Instructables directly. Still, I try everytime I get your email. Most of the time, I have to go directly to instructables.com and search for the topic on the email. Most of the time I find it within several minutes (it takes longer if there are more than one that match my search) I don't have this problem with links in my usual email. Just from Instructables. I've run several anti virus scanners - AVG and Norton - they both show I'm clean. Is anyone else having this problem? Or is it just me? Thanks, Joan

When I past a link to an instructable in a facebook postI want the text snippet to come from that instructable. Instead it grabs text from my bioI care because using facebook doubles the number of subscribers I have.for instance: here's what shows up in the facebook postJackhammer Headphoneshttps://www.instructables.com/id/Jac...Tim Anderson is the author of the "Heirloom Technology" column in Make Magazine. He is co-founder of www.zcorp.com, manufacturers of "3D Printer" output devices. His detailed draw...

I would love to see some additional functionality added to Instructable's Favorites system if possible. 1. the ability to download your Instructables favorite's list to either a browser or text file. 2. The ability to view Instructables favorites as a list 3. a search command that allows one to search through Instructables Favorites rather than the whole site. I believe these additions would make for a better experience and make Instructables a more robust tool and resource. -Chris Tempe, AZ

Hello, links in Editors' Picks and some buttons at the bottom of the newsletter don't work (not active) in MS Outlook 2016 x64. The links in other blocks are ok. Also If I open the newsletter in a browser all the links work fine. My OS is Windows 7 x64.

I just notice this morning that there are hyper links that have been added to the instructables i have posted up....just a random phrase or set of words have a link directing people to nursing school, electronics sites, etc... I did not add these links and would think folks would rather not have them in the instructable but rather to the side bar or something. Has my account been hacked and someone messing with the ibles? Someone go look at my recent ible and you will see the link used under "Let's get started" of my project. Leo/ AKA Jawasan

Does anyone else find it really annoying that instructables external links don't open in a new window ? I keep losing the original instructables page when I close the linked page, forgetting that it didn't open a new tab. Maybe it's just my computer !

New embedded links in comments or replies do not take you to the link when you click on them. Nothing happens when you click on the orange text. I think this probably affects new comments/replies since the last site update. You can create the link in the editor, it turns blue and then when you preview the comment it is the familiar orange text. Links in older comments seem to work. Using Chrome/Windows XP and I guess we can no longer embed videos in comments...I see what you did there.

I have been getting the message: "The URL is not syntactically valid" for all the links in your e-mails since the January 24, 2013 newsletter. I was & am using Eudora 6.2.4 on a Mac mini OS 10.4.11. The links in the January 17, 2013 newsletter, & all previous newsletters, did & still do work just fine. What changed? Sincerely, ~ Wolfwerx ~

I love instructables. I wouldn't want to take advantage of a public forum like this, so I have a question about etiquette: can I post a link to my blog/website at the end of my instructable?
Posted by karenelisam 9 years ago
Please, send me weblinks to cheap webshops for jewelry. I really love making my own jewelry but I can't find any cheap stores. By sending the links, you actually support me in making more jewelry instructables :) An example of a necklace I have made: https://www.instructables.com/id/mulicoloured-pendant/

I have discovered that our username breaks certain links on the site although it presumably passed input validation when we set it up. First locate any use of the username such as on the Instructable here: https://www.instructables.com/id/A-Quick-Laser-Cut-Sailing-Trophy/ The link has been encoded as https://www.instructables.com/member/Sean%2BJames/ which is not being processed correctly resulting in the 400 error This has been tested on Firefox on Mac, Chrome on Mac, Firefox on Windows. I know it is not a browser problem but I thought I would do a bit of testing.

Since the new updated homepage, I am getting sessions on Instructables that every time I click a link the new page opens in a new window. This isn't happening all the time though and sometimes I can use the website normally. I am on Windows Vista, running Firefox 19.0.2. I am having no issues on any other websites I usually use.

I don't know what else to call it, but lets say I wanted to put a link that if you clicked it would take you to that page. I'm in the process of writing my first instructable and many i have seen have this. But I have absolutely no clue how to... Can someone help me out? I have no clue what category to put this question in too, so ill just pick a random one...

For the past three email newsletters that I've received from intructables, the links will not work properly. In the past, I've always been able to click on a link and have it appear fine in my Internet Explorer 7 using Windows XP. All updates/patches have been applied to the system I use as it is a Department of Defense computer. I added a comment to the following post. https://www.instructables.com/community/Links-in-articles-should-open-a-new-tab/ Then I realized that it is a year and a half old. And it doesn't mention the checkbox. I am guessing the checkbox was added since then and is now not working. And that this is a new bug. As I said in my post, I set the checkboxes to "Open in New Tab". Then I publish and the links open in the same tab. Then I go in (several times) recheck the checkboxes, go back and verify that they are checked and republish. They still open in the same tab and when I go back into edit mode, they are unchecked. Is this a bug? Or am I doing something wrong? If I am, I would argue that the instructions for using this checkbox have a bug. Ergo, there is a bug. Don't you hate philosopher/engineers? Grin, that's me!

Where and How to approach my ideas to advertisement companies without taking patent or copyright on them?

This may be a new record for a bug report :-) As soon as I refreshed after tonight's rollout of the new channels, I saw that the masthead had problems. The primary bug is that all of my profile shortcuts (You -> Settings -> Customize) are missing. The secondary bug is that the orange and yellow background gets cut off to the right, just after the word "You". Those colors ought to extend to the proper right edge of the page. UPDATED: The shortcuts are there, but they are really badly hidden. In the blank bit of masthead between "You" and "logout", hovering the mouse brings up a menu of the shortcuts. Not only is this amazingly counter-intuitive, it violates some basic rules for accessible content. UPDATED AGAIN: The cutoff is set by my browser (Firefox 3.6.3, MacOSX 10.5.8) window's physical width, not by the logical width of the I'bles page. UPDATED AGAIN, for Rachel: Added three full-window screenshots. The first shows my normal Firefox window, with the horizontal scroll bar to the right; looks normal. The second shows the missing masthead, when I scroll right to try to find "Shortcuts". The third shows what happens if I shrink the window to a small size: the masthead gets eaten up. FINAL UPDATE: Rachel rolled out some bug fixes overnight on 20-21 April, and this problem has been fixed (at least for FF 3.6.3). Thanks, Rachel!

Are we allowed to post links to products that we used in our instructables if we could potentially get a perk from posting it? I'm thinking of joining Amazon's affiliate program, where I would get a % of sales that amazon made from my links. Could I post those links in my instructables, either in the body of the 'ible, or the comments section? And if so, would I have to disclose that I joined the program? I haven't joined yet, but people ask me sometimes in the comments where I got the stuff I used to make my project, and I'd love to offset the cost of making stuff by getting paid for links that I'd post anyway. I checked the terms of service and searched the FAQs, but I still wasn't sure.

Ok, I need to know this, but I am sure it will help the members of the community also. Ok, the thing is, my life would be easier if I knew how to look at the coding or something to tell which answer is right on this thing. I was thinking I could somehow get the code and find which one is right by looking at it. Thank You.
