I'm going to be making a 2 part instructable, where the first instructable can be branched off and help people make other instructables, and my second instructable is to make an "attachment" for my first instructable" Would the 2 be counted as 1? Or would the 2nd instructable be considered "incomplete".

I am planning another project. It will be a somewhat Portable Steam Punk Balance ( Scale ) . The idea is only one arm is to be exposed the other will be shorter and I want to attach it to ( PART? - I was going to say actuator but probably not the right part ) I want something that measures the distance it moves so it can be scaled to what the weight is. I want to hook this up to an Arduino to to the scaling and then output it to a display. The part will be hidden so looks are not important , I just want to know what is the name of that part and any sources would be greatly appreciated. TIA for those that help. Gunther45

I am making an instructable for building a gas powered bicycle from scratch, but in it's current form, it is shaping up to have literally hundreds of steps. Is there a way to break it down into smaller sections in such a way that I could still enter it in a contest as one instructable? I was thinking perhaps I make an instructable that consists of only the introduction, followed by quick overviews of each part, with accompanying links to other instructables which are dedicated to each part. The way I am planning to do it, I would have one instructable for how to modify the engine, another one for choosing a good bicycle to motorize, another for mounting the engine to the bike frame, another for calculating gear ratios and setting up gear reduction, another for rebuilding the rear wheel, another for throttle linkage, another for exhaust systems, gas tanks, and air filters, another for all the other misc stuff you have to do, and finally one more for how to ride safely. So that would be 9 parts to the instructable, each their own instructable, which even split into 8 would make quite large instructables. Then the "parent" instructable, which would be the one I enter in contests, or which would be featured if it's worthy, would look like this: How to build a 4hp motorized bicycle from scratch! Blah blah blah introduction, nice pictures of finished bicycles, etc. Step 1 short overview of specific part, ex modifying the engine, then link to another instructable providing detailed instructions on exactly how to modify the engine Step 2 same format as step 1 and so on until all the parts are covered. This would also be helpful to me because I could better organize the hundreds of images I have for this instructable, right now it is a huge pain in the butt to find any specific image, so much so that it's easier to upload them one by one as I need them just so I can keep track. So, would this format be ok?

Hi there, I'm messing around with a cheap Chinese camera I got a while back and was looking to replace the rather poor camera with a nicer, clearer one. I'm a complete newbie at doing this as this is as far as I can get!! It seems there is a clip in camera for the circuit board but now I have no idea how to search for another compatible one to buy online. I've typed in 'camera circuit board replacement' and 'clip in camera part' etc. etc. but to no avail. Here are some also rather poor images of the camera in question but hopefully it's enough for someone to point me in the right direction of another replacement module that would snap in and work! Thanks! Josh

Hi! I decided I would post every chapter I do instead of just the first so here's the second chapter! Enjoy! Chapter 2 The traveller After eating some delicious noodles we decided to go to my house. I expected my mother would shout at me because I hadn’t made my bed, but when I got home there was a very different response. My mother looked very frightened. Suddenly my father walked in. He too was a samurai. He was dressed in samurai’s armour and had a katana and a wakizashi (Samurai sword and dagger) which were placed in their sheaths. He only wore the armour in an emergency and in times of war and the expression on his face told me that there was bad news. “Pack your bags, Ryu,” he said. “It’s time for you to go to the dojo.” “What?” I asked in disbelief. “Go and pack your bags,” he repeated. “Hiroshi, you must also get ready. Go home to your father who is waiting for you.” “Yes, sir,” he replied. Hiroshi never questioned my father’s decisions. “Father?” I started. “Do not question me, Ryu. Now go and get ready.” Hiroshi ran out the door and I went to my room and opened my cupboard. Inside were all my kimonos and my bokken (wooden sword). I grabbed my favourite ones and came back to where my father was waiting. I didn’t have time to say goodbye to any of my friends. We walked outside where my father’s horse stood ready. “Hello, Diamond,” I said. He whinnied when he saw me and put his head under my arms so that I could pat him. I scratched his ears while my father prepared the saddle. We named him Diamond because of the diamond shaped mark on his forehead. The white stallion was very rare and my father was lucky to have found him. I still remember the first time we met Diamond. My father and I were travelling on a large dirt road when it started to rain. The road quickly turned to mud so we took shelter under some trees. Hearing a sad whinny, I looked around and found a white stallion lying in the mud. I turned my father’s gaze to the horse and we walked over to it. It was only half awake and had a huge cut in its side. We brought it back to our stables and healed its wounds. It became fond of us so we decided to keep him. He was easily the fastest horse in the city. Back to the present, we set out on the road to the dojo. As we left the city I could see almost everything from the palace down to the pier. The gardens at the top of the hill were full of flowers and shrubs. It was bordered on two sides by a thick hedge. The pagoda was in the middle for people to visit. I realized that I had never actually visited the garden. There were many things I hadn’t visited in the last fourteen years. I would miss the beach with its crystal clear waters and sandy shores. I’d miss the constant movement of the waves. I’d miss my mother and younger sister. I’d especially miss all the friends I had. Leaving Hiroshi would hurt dearly. As we travelled I helped Diamond’s tail to flick away the flies. Diamond galloped so swiftly that it was comfortable riding him. The white stallion sped past villages and mountains until we arrived at a forest. The entrance to the forest was shrouded in mist and there was complete silence. Entering cautiously we heard a weak yelp. My father stopped and stared in the direction of the sound. I dismounted and walked toward the faint voice. My father told me to take my bokken. He always thought that curiosity was a great teacher. I got closer and heard a twitch. Behind a small bush a girl was lying unconscious. She looked about my age- fourteen or fifteen, maybe? She had a deep cut in here wrist that seemed to be from sometime of weapon. She had a large bump on her head which must have left her unconscious. The thing that really surprised me was her hair. It was the colour of gold. I called my father over to see. He stared at the girl and then picked her up. “The healers from the dojo will be able to heal her wounds,” he said. “Put her on your lap and make sure she does not fall of the horse.” I laid her on the horse and put my bokken between me and the saddle holding the girl in place. We continued our journey through the woods without another word. Halfway through the forest the girl started to wake up. She had crystal blue eyes that stared straight at me. “Danger,” she said before drifting back into unconsciousness. I had a bad feeling about this.

This should probably be an easy answer, yet I'm unable to find it through Google. On almost, if not every hammer drill, there's a part that lets you connect a handle to the drill, like this: https://db1736767dbd5e7094bb-d61bbc5d0b342a54145a236e2d5d1ebf.ssl.cf4.rackcdn.com/Product-800x800/bfe965c8-660a-43ae-ba31-b870da3a96af.jpg or like this: https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/HTB132G1LFXXXXc7XpXXq6xXFXXX7/-font-b-Press-b-font-Bench-font-b-Drill-b-font-Stand-Rack-Repair-Tool.jpg (clickable links in the comment below) How is that part called? A collar? Thanks.

Recently one of the plastic clips that connect the strap to the mask for my CPAP machine broke. They sell replacement clips for the heargear ( 8 bucks for 2 clips). My question is would it be cost effective to get replacement clips 3D printed, or am I better off just buying the replacement clips?

So one day my speakers, scanner, and internet stopped working (about a week ago). I fixed the internet by reinstalling the driver, and I'm too lazy to reinstall the driver for my scanner. But what I'm most concerned about is that my sound doesn't work. I've tried reinstalling the drivers a couple times, and it works perfectly, except it doesn't work, lol. It's fine until it says restart my computer, after it does it it boots up like the driver didn't do anything. I'm using a realtek driver, I've both tried installing it off of the cd that comes with my computer and downloading the driver straight off of their site. I NEED SOUND!!!!

I have a Lakewood model 101 AB box fan that I had in storage for several years and when I took it out to use it, it is missing the rear back power/speed selection knob. It is 1" diam. and needs a small slot in order for it to attach to the post sticking out from the motor. I have spent quite a bit of time searching for this or an appropriate universal knob and I recently learned Lakewood went out of business several years ago. Any ideas on where I can find this elusive part so that I can use my fan? Thank you very much for your help.

This is on an adjustable length cane, where this thing can be pushed into the inside of the tube to adjust length of the cane, and pushed out by a spring with a "click" sound to lock the length. This is also on kayak paddles to select and lock the angle of the paddles. In fact, this is fairly common and used in many other places... But I don't know its name. I want to use this on one of my project and I am not sure what name should I use to search for the parts. Anyone can help? Thanks!

In Eagle, I'm trying to make a ring that is divided into 18 equal sections. However, I'm not sure how to do it. The only idea I can think of is manually creating each polygon, but there has to be an easier way. I've tried taking the ring and drawing lines through it in both the restrict & kepout layers, it doesn't work, though.

So i opened this old Crown Japan stereo and found somethings i've seen before, but never had the initiative to ask their raison d'être (why are they there?). 1 - What is the blocky component with a colored screwdriver notch on them? 2 - Why do they always use this specifics pots for the tuners of radios? 3 - Why do they apply wax (often in generous amounts) over some components? (i know all 3 sound pretty noob, but i had to ask someone)

I dissembled a lamp and found this piece, at first I thought it was a weird washer but I can't find it anywhere. I love it and I've been using as a mold in several crafts with clay. I want to know what's its name so I can buy more, so I will be extremely glad if anyone can tell me its name or where can I get it. You can see the front and back shoots.

I've managed to break them exactly on the Y part where Left and Right headphones connect to the main cable. I want to solder them however not sure how to connect separate cables... I have a small schema here: http://i58.tinypic.com/24vnptf.png Please note the Copper(orange) and the Blue(Blue) are together: blue is in plastic? coating with wrapped copper around but its two separate wires. Also, the magenta/violet on the diagram represents a white wire, All of the other cables except blue were coated in enamel?. The headphones have a built-in microphone with a button and its sony mdrzx610 model. I really hope there's someone to help me out I need my sounds back!

I've recently moved into a new house (I'm not telling you where) and the backyard only receives 4-5 hours of sunshine per day. I'm wondering if my vegetables requiring full sun will still grow? I'm tired of seeing the same old "it must have at least 6-8 hours of sunlight each day" . If this is still not possible then I will consider a hydroponic system with growth lights under my stairs... I was always interested in hydroponics ever since I saw an advertisement for the AeroGarden, but I never actually tried to build a system and I definitely can't afford one.

Hi all! Recently my girlfriend dropped her HTC Mozart and it landed on the edge with the power/sleep button. After disassembly, the switch/button has physically been smashed off from the fall. I've been repairing devices such as the mozart for years, and my soldering skills are very good but I have just one issue. I could easily solder a new button/switch onto the mainboard, but I don't know what to replace it with? I've tried searching for HTC component lists and everything to no avail. I've attached two pictures. One is of the damaged switch/button and the other is one of the other switches (For the volume) which are the same switches/buttons that I need to replace the damaged one. How can I identify it and replace it? Thanks!

Dear all, We are a small company located in Singapore and we are starting a community for the trading and reselling of your old and unwanted cables, electronic components or computer parts that are lying around your house. So help us do our part for mother earth by visiting the following link:- http://sites.google.com/site/ventincrecables/green-ventincre As a start and due to the lack of funding, we will temporary use google group to host all advertisement postings. Hopefully, as we move along, more funding will start flowing in to enable us to utilize a better platform like tal.ki so that more people would be able to take part in this small project that we have. We will be really grateful if you can join this community by posting your advertisements and also, donating funds from time to time as these are crucial for the survival of this community. Our future plans would be to include the donation of computers and laptops to communities in developing countries, charities or schools. Do feel free to drop us an email at email@example.com should you have any queries or suggestions. Yours Sincerely, Ventincre!

I have puled two components out of an old radio/amp/ cd player etc. and i want to know what they are and if i can use them to make an audio amplifier. one says BC Power Module SVI 3101 D on the front and 424 1w2 on the back and has 14 legs (it can be seen here, this is actually the exact one i have from the same appliance : http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1042/4733036801_a2d72f1df9.jpg ) . The other looks kind of like an op amp, it has 12 pins and the part no 5a3920, and below that 218 130a (as you can tell i am not a good at desoldering and not having a solder suck doesn't help).

I've got an old Dunlap 103-0602 wood lathe (http://vintagemachinery.org/photoindex/detail.aspx?id=9331 - not my post but that's what I have), but the measurements for the pulley seem very strange and irregular. Anybody know of a 4-step pulley with 2-3/4", 2-1/4", 1-3/8", and 15/16" steps? It's 2.5" wide total on a 5/8" arbor, which are easy to find on McMaster Carr and the like, but those measurements aren't evenly spaced or findable anywhere I've looked online so far. So, first question is does anybody know where I can find a pulley like that? And if not, anybody know a way to easily get the pulley off the arbor? It's pretty old and gunked up - some WD-40 loosened up the bearing like butter, but no such luck on the pulley itself, squirting through the set-screw holes. I've got a motor and everything, I'd love to make this usable, but need some advice. Got any?

At my school, old wise men teach us all kinds of circuits and concepts, many using components in ways they were never intended for. Thermal cutoff for a power supply uses normal 4007 diodes as temperature sensors. Hollow pieces of stripped wiring plastic, heated slightly and used as heat shrink. Reverse voltage of an LED used to detect daylight and guide a solar tracking motor. 21W light bulbs used as constant current sources because of their PTC characteristics. Fuses made from single strands of copper, doubled up to handle greater current. There must be more. Using components and junk in ways they weren't intended opens up all kinds of possibilities for electronics people and students on tight budgets who don't have access to components and technology. Are there other smart ways to put the characteristics of certain parts to smart use?
