I have a chaise lounge that had its sling badly torn. Custom made replacement slings on the internet run from about $75 to $90 (plus shipping). Is there a way to make a replacement sling at home and save a little cash? Thanx

Have built a pallet/ man sized trebuchet in a 4th grade class project. Looks great, swings well, but the tennis ball load is either released before the sling swings up, or not at all (slams against the arm). Have used 2 ropes with a shallow bag. Any suggestions? (Kids were disappointed on Friday)

I want to stand up while using my laptop, but instead of putting the laptop on a stand, I want to WEAR it like a sling in front of me while I'm using it. Maybe something strappy that would hold the laptop securely while I type etc. It's a 15" (diagonal) screen laptop, and not especially lightweight, so I'd prefer not to support its weight entirely by my neck. I'd appreciate any ideas for how to make something like that!

I have a partially completed sniper at home and i wanted to know if you guys want me to finish and post it, i mean, theres no point posting if it gets a cr*p reception, eh? And it is currently unnamed so i am open to suggestions about that aswell. At the moment it has a cool carrying strap (not mine), a bolt loading system (classic) a bipod, a monopod, and a nifty scope (not mine) I am also working on a new mech for possible semi auto, ill get back to you if it gets anywhere.

Woah - these chaps used a stick, a couple of off-the-shelf sensors and a USB prototyping board to make a real slingshot that will actually control a game of Angry Birds! I believe the "youths" who are "down with it" would refer to the final device as "well wikid". They've even been so kind as to provide full instructions, parts lists and code, just so anybody who wants to can make their own! Kudos, chaps. What would be really awesome, of course, is if they joined us here and provided a proper Instructable... ;-) (Image taken from http://mbed.org/cookbook/Slingshot)

My group is doing a Trebuchet for Engineering class and we've built it and it's ready to go. But it's missing the sling. I've tried making a sling but I feel I've been doing it completely wrong. Because the projectile (wooden ball) would either hit flat on the ground or never release. I'm also confused as to how the sling works, I realize one end is tied to the arm and another is free floating and unhooks and releases the projectile, but how exactly should you do this? Is there any good tutorials that don't leave out details, or at least explain it a little better? Any help is greatly appreciated and will prevent us from failing.

I've been wanting to make a simple sling (the weapon type) for quite an extremely long while now, but then I don't have access to leather (neither scraps nor a nearby store for that matter). I'm just wondering if anyone knows a good substitute material for leather that could be used in that application (slings)?

Hi! I'm working on, and posting the biggest knex gun EVER. it's 15FT long!, It's based of KnexRule100's super sling, so he gets credit for the idea. It SHOULD shoot as far or farther then the SR-V2 (It's sling). It's not done yet so....... Yeah. >>

For a while I have been trying to develop a magazine that feeds bullets from below the barrel. The gun I am modding has a similar barrel to the K'nex Striker Pistol by I_am_Canadian. I can develop one that sits above the barrel however this looks ridiculous and in not all to affective. Any suggestions? Pictures or existing instructables are most helpful! Thanks!

how to make a 8 strand round braid that creates a pattern and takes very little skill, time, and string?
I was wanting to make a sling (David and Goliath), but this time i wanted to make it with and 8 strand braid. i want a sling around 30 inches (measured from center of the pouch to the end of the cord). which leaves me with about 29 inches of braid each, 29 x 2 (the 2 cords) = 58 inches of braid. 58inches x 8 (number of strands) equals (*grabs calculator) 464 inches. going like this only gives me 8 strands laid side by side, not braided. i'm willing to spend 525 inches on the braid max. anyone know a good one?P.S. i already have seen kiteman's 8 and 16 strand braid. this is not what i'm looking for, i would rather do a hand braid. weird preference but...

Well, I am pretty tight on time at the moment, but the video should explain things pretty well until I can do so here. here will also be many more pictures of the K-3 and Kinetic Shotgun, but I just need some time for those too. As for the K-4: Everything worked the way it was designed to work, but certain mechanisms (the trigger and the BTS) required a lot of force to function, thus reducing the amount of tension that would be even remotely practical to use on the bow. It was a good attempt and I have learned a lot from it; things that I will take with me as I move on to bigger and better guns. Here's a video for now, and I will explain everything in depth as soon as I can.

Greetings K'nex community. I know I have been dead for the past few days, but that is because I have been very busy working on my latest and greatest K'nex gun, the K4. Before I start, let me just point out that when I say "latest and greatest", I mean it. This gun is all about innovation, power, and performance. It utilizes a new breed of pump (a slide in this case) that runs along a track system, allowing it to maintain a firm grip on the gun without getting in the way of any other major mechanisms. It also uses a new kind of ammo, a new bow system (which is not yet on the gun) that allows the trigger to be place in the front of the gun that keeps it from interfering with any other mechanisms, and many other mechanisms that you just wouldn't see in an ordinary gun. At this point, it is not yet complete, the bow is still in the works but most of the more tedious elements have been taken care of. So now I'll just shut up and give you guys a peek at the K4! Check out the video here

Well I finally got some more pieces, more still coming; this enabled me to build something bigger =dThis crossbow(more like cannon, now) has the following specs:Ammo: 1 Standard arrow, which needs to be ductaped other wise torn to shreds.Weight: 4,5 kilo's (9,92 pounds)Range: Not tested outside, will beat the Reaper and the Blockhead for sure.Rubberbands: 32, 8 strings of 4 ( these may still be increased as it shows no bending yet.)Power: Just look at 2nd picture....should explain a lot.Trigger: Same as on the Blockhead, some big improvements on it though.(Surprised about how power much it can take...)Sturdiness: Seems close to unbreakable lol...Without realizing..I also made a very good scope on it o.oI had a purple+blue 3d connector as arrow tip and when I fired on my cardboard box, it made a huge tear...and my ears were ringing like from an explosion O.o'Well this monster has bad points:Need a long/strong left arm if you are right-handed, because this thing is heavy as hell.Cannot fire without trigger.Every arrow needs ductape otherwise connector gets torn off. Also I gonna try and say...:I think this may very well be the most powerful ranged k'nex weapon on this site at the moment.

What i've been up to: the bolt action, bullpup, tube mag, pump action, dual shot, sling repeater. Got your attention yet?
Ok, for those of you who had seen my shotgun design, you could probably tell it was over before it had even started. I had tried 5 different layouts and I couldn't get past the frontmost barrel without running into problems. I think it was a cool design, but it was just too much for K'nex. Most of my best get designs just pop into my head at the most random times. Is it just me, or does this happen to other people too? Anyways I was trying to make it until the bell in pre-cal (my teacher is a crazy cat woman who enjoys talking about her imaginary husband) and I just started drawing this design. Not only did it kill 10 minutes but it may just be the best thing I've come up with in terms of K'nex. The magazine looking thing in front of the handle is actually the driving mechanism in this gun. Shots are housed in the stock pressing up against the pusher. When the pump is pulled, the pusher moves down, allowing two bullets (one shot) into the chamber. When the pump is released, the pusher pushes the bullets up against an upper section, where they wait for the trigger so be pulled, releasing the ratchet and the rubber band, launching the two bullets with a decent (I hope) spread. Even though it doesn't shoot yet it is fun to just load the ammo (thats just how cool this gun it). It is probably going to be a little different than what is shown in the video by the time I post it, but right now I'm just going with what I have. I hope you like it and please let me know of any improvements you can come up with. -Kinetic

This is a modification of the sling shot prototype made by Katarukito's (I hope i spelt that right) knex prototype sling shot knex gun. It can pierce cardboard at fifteen feet away with one band and twenty to thirty feet away with two rubberbands (UNSHARPENED BULLET) I modified the barrel with a new barrel, that may look ugly but if you want i can take off the blue and red connectors that make the humps/ scales of what i call... Dragon Head Knex Gun DHKG well i didn't intend on putting those there but it turned out as a dragon and well, i went with it... the barrel doesn't bend and when or if i do post it, all credits go to Katarukito! Enjoy! Sorry for the blurry pictures it was night time and i had to pee like a race horse... Pic 1: The bullet - A red rod or tan rod with tan clip Pic 2: Front view (DRAGON HEAD) - Front of the gun where rubberbands go Pic 3: Another front view (Barrel) - Front of the gun better picture Pic 4: A view of the back (Part of Kataturi's knex gun prototype moded) - View of barrel and handle Pic 5: Better picture of back (Katarukito's prototype still able to be seen, just modified) Pic 6: Full gun - (the full DHKG) - Aprox. We are in search for ideas and/or off-the-shelf solutions for a mobility and toileting issue in response to the following request: "I apologize for posting again so soon, but I forgot to describe my disability, and why I'm physically unable to hug someone. I was born with a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy called Nemaline Myopathy. My disability affects me in many ways, but in this case, I'm unable to independently raise my arms, wrap them around someone, and have them stay in place. A device I'm seeking would have the ability to suspend my arms in the air, and be able to bring them together. One suggestion was to somehow hook it up to a motor, and operate the device by a remote. Also, when I was a kid, I had a device that was like a sling for my arms. The two slings were attached to two separate metal rods on both sides of me that were able to attach and detach from the back of my wheelchair. Someone would slide my arms into the sleeves, and I was able to bring my arms together, or do various tasks, like typing, with my arms suspended in the sling. I do have the strength to squeeze my arms together, but without assistance, my arms eventually do slide down due to gravity. A device similar to the sling idea would probably be ideal, plus no motor or electronic devices would be needed. I realize that this project could be timely, and possibly expensive, but to me it's worth it. I'd love to be able to give someone that I care about a real hug, and experience another form of intimacy and closeness." Happy to hear your ideas! Okay. This is the only thing I think is impossible with K'NEX. An H&K GMG. Yeah.REQUIREMENTS@Range of OVER 10 feet. Okay, whatever. As long as it shoots.@Must use true grenades, they must explode. OR, you could have it sling balls of K'NEX. Or K'NEX balls.@Non-disintegrating belt.@4 RPS.@Must look like one.@Must have a tripod.@Fully-automatic.That's about it.

I'm fat myself, so I can't see how this could offend anyone. That said, the design I was thinking of would be similar to the back support brace/slings that pregnant women wear. It would also have velcro attachments for additional things like an absorbant pad for "underneath." Are there any designs/projects here on this site for similar items? Any help would be appreciated.

I've built a sturdy static trapeze (welded bar, spliced rope) and would like to know how to rig it in a cost effective but safe manner. My mounting point is a steel beam, and the two ropes of the trapeze end spliced around 24mm galvanised steel thimbles which I need to fix to the bar. It would be great if methods could be provided that utilise materials found at local hardware stores - I know you can use crane slings but the only supplier I can find is a prohibitively distant one :)
Am looking for something really lightweight that can be hooked to a pack that is quick to set up for lunch breaks or any type of break. And I guess it doesn't really need to be a "hammock" - just something easy to set up that is sturdy - needs to hold 200+ lbs and is stable on uneven ground. Thanks - figure someone here can figure it out if they haven't already. I've looked at some of the chairs but they don't quite fit what I'm looking for.

To start I know the true definition of bullpup is mag behind the handle but i does not matter. I made it on MLcad as you can see, it will probably be my last sling shot i make so i want it to be the best i have made so If you have any thing that would improve it, tell me (sorry for using bold but people will see it) i will probly try and put a... safety a winch( to make loading easier) 2 bipod locations ammo storage and what ever else anyone can think of

Hey people i don't really like the pinned hand guns so can you people make me a tottaly awesome sling shot with range of about 100 ft. the reason is i don't really get most pin guns to work and the don't fire the far and also can you make it really simple. So what I want is a easy K'nex hand gun slingshot prefered but pins will be accepted and and also make the simple have it have a scope or atleast really acurate and low piece list and long range add link to comment thanks

I'm trying to put a multi-purpose platform about 90 feet up a very large tree. The first 25 feet or so from the ground is completely devoid of branches, so I threw a rope around some branches higher and then prusiked up it. However, the throwing-the-rope-up-and-prusiking method will be ineffective higher up, as the dense braches would stop a rope thrown from getting anywhere. So I was thinking that I'd do a via ferrata type system, where I had multiple slings attached to my harness and would attach them progressively to branches as I climbed, so that I could clip in, climb a few feet, clip in again, unclip the previous sling, and repeat this. However, a short fall onto normal webbing or rope would cause serious injury. I looked at buying a via ferrata kit, but the only ones I can find are one-time tear versions. I really don't want to have to pay ~ 100 USD every time I fall, so I was wondering if anyone knew how to make a simple, reusable energy absorber, preferably from webbing, carabiners, etc. (i.e. the kind of stuff the average climber has lying around). Thanks!

Alright, this is my new shotgun design. I have been working on it since I decided to get back into K'nex, however, right now I don't have the pieces to build it, so it will remain a concept for now. It includes a horizontal magazine that I have designed, a pump, and TD's ram. The ammo will feed into a mechanism similar to that on the zkar, pushing it upward so that it rests on a pusher which is located right below the barrel. This pusher is externally connected to the rod in the front and is held in the forward position by a rubber band. When the pump is pulled back, the ram is cocked, and the loading ram is moves back as well, placing the ammo right below the barrel. When the pump is pushed forward, it pushes the loading ram forward, loading the ammo into the barrel. Though this model is not proportionate, I think it accurately gets the idea across, and I was hoping you could give me feedback as to what could be wrong with the design, or you can just feel free to tell me how much you love it. Eventually I plan on adding a stock that houses a bullpup sling mech, using the guide on the ram to act as a pusher for the rear BTS of the sling gun. I am pretty sure I can pull this off, but I need the pieces first, so feel free to test this concept out and let me know what you think. Thanks. -Kinetic * note in the key it says that the green circles are protruding rods, this is a mistake and the blue circles are actually the protruding rods
