Hello everybody,i purchased some atmega328pu chips for a DIY projects (arduino bootloaded) ,just to get little space for my projects,I have already done with the chip part and im stucked on the Usbasp programming,i purchaces a programmer from e bay. https://www.protostack.com/download/Users%20Guide%20%28AC-PG-USBASP-UG-V2.0%29.pdf I found the pinout for this programmer, and i attacked 4 cables on my atmega328pu chip, TX,RX,VCC,GND,also i installed the drivers from the site,And now im going onto arduino IDE,and i cant find a port to upload my sketches, nothink seems to communicate, and i got stucked here,i need some help Thank you.. (sorry for my bad english) P.S Im a new guy on programming and chip stuff :D

Going on my 2nd week...thats 14 days of trying EVERYTHING I can find to get my Win xp pro 32bit - sp3 to see anything beyond the USBasp? I've completely given up on trying to get the UNO direct USB hookup...I only get NEW DEVICE- USB2.0-SERIAL . Uninstalled-reinstalled- repeat with port changes and following the SAME directions posted all over the interwebs. My DIYduinos have UNO and 2 with Deum'nove bootloaded and blink sketch installed when I purchased them....they give the blinkin LED when powered up. I've also had several unsuccessful attempts at the FTDI driver....the USB2.0 "official" drivers...the Arduino IDE USB driver..you name it...I probably tried it. nothin' I'm no baby, but, I'm seriously on the verge of frustration tears!! apparently I'm the only one who has this issue 'cause theres nothing I can find on it...the existing instructions out there are sooo frustrating in themselves as they just plug it in and there computer sees the UNO or whatever and they just go on from there...or stop after windows sees the USBasp programmer....I have THAT but, cant get any further with it. My Uno clone has a10 pin USBasp header on it...says right on it USBasp!...When I hook it all up, I get power on the board(s) from the USBasp programmer hooked to my comp...windows sees the USBasp but nothing attached...let alone a virtual com port arrangment. PLEASE anyone who knows what the issue might be or an educated guess is welcome too!!! I'll send you Art! or a 'duino with LM293D chips able to drive 2 stepper motors I've made! if you solve it...you'll be rewarded somehow!!!

OK for real this has been going on for days n' days. I cant get my windows xp pro sp3 - to see any attached device other than the USB2.0-SERIAL it sees when I hook up my UNO clone-ATMega 328 w/ arduino bootloader already "factory "installed - Using the USB, I keep getting NEW DEVICE USB2.0-SERIAL , and YES, I've followed ALL+ the step by steps out there for doing this...it's just I dont get an UNO nor anything but the USB2.0 message. The FTDI bit and the virtual com port did nothing...er capital N-othing. I uninstalled -reinstalled tried different USB ports. I just want to play with my UNO!!! anyone?

Problem connecting a USB device. Breadboarded USBasp programmer circuit detected as 'Other Device' on connecting to PC.
Dear techie I am trying to build a USBasp programmer with the ATmega 8 microcontroller and have successfully breadborded it along with the other passive elements. The problem arose when on connecting with the PC through a USB cable, a message flickered saying that the device has malfunctioned and won't work correctly. Further the progammer was listed as 'Other Device' in the Device manager of Windows xp. Even when I try to manually load the driver for the USBasp, the wizard said that it couldn't find a better driver than the present one and didn't load the actual driver(lib_usb.dll). USBasp is compatible with Windows xp which is my current OS. Please help.

I recently got hold of a couple spare arduinos wich all had their FTDI chip burned out (not on purpouse of course) by students. The Atmega 328p chips still work though, and I was wondering if it was possible to make a USBasp with such a chip (the only schematic I saw used an atmega 8 or atmega 88 , schematic below), and if it is, is it the same schematic as below? Also, what program would it need to work? ( I have a working arduino I can use to program the chip first, then put it in the circuit) PS: yes I know I could use an arduino uno board and just switch out the chips when I need to re-program them, but that's not the point.

1. Save yourself a headache and forget about the USBasp if it dit not work, get an arduino and use it as Arduino as ISP. (some of these USBasp devices are not properly flashed)2. Do not forget to perform the burn bootloader step every time you change mcu speed3. my box had faulty switchs, best way t...
I have a PDIP chip ATMEGA168 a 28 pin mc and I want to use it. I wanna know what will I need to use it for some very basic gadget with a very small budget.Do I need a Development board and an ISP programmer both? Or is there anything like a small usb programmer where I can just put my chip and program using avr studio.. Actually I plan to make my own programmer and any schematic will help, thanks in advance.. ** so can I make a simple dev board, i need the micro controller for some kind of a alarm triggering mechanism for the overhead water tank so I dont wanna waste a lot of money for a full fledged dev board with lcd and stuffs, so how can i make a dev board..any links will be good !!

Hello. I found "Tv b gone" project which i can write to my arduino. It worls perfectly. I want to make it smaller but i don't want to waste my arduino board and Atmega328P which sits inside of an arduino. Here is a video on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfdVdPwPhWU Works on one IR diode (would be glad if can do the same on atmega8a) There is a link to download the code for arduino: http://arcfn.com/files/arduino-tv-b-gone-1.2.zip Project page (guy changed the code to working on arduino) http://www.righto.com/2009/12/tv-b-gone-for-arduino.html Original project page where originally everything is working on ATtiny85. https://learn.adafruit.com/tv-b-gone-kit/design-notes If needed I've got Arduino UNO, USBasp (can burn program with USBasp using Eclipse C/C++ or ArduinoIDE) I want to know if i could make it work on Atmega8 (internal oscilator/external crystal?) (got many of these, don't want to buy new microcontroller) without any effort? I would appreciate if someone help me. I found also something like this. https://code.google.com/p/mircho-avrcode/source/browse/#hg%2FatmegaCode%2Ftvbgone-atmega8 but I need EU codes Sorry for my English. I'm from Europe.

I'm just getting into microcontrollers and I'm getting an atmega328 to practice with, and probably make an arduino out of. I'm a bit confused about what I need to turn the usb from computer into something it will understand. I was confused about if I need an ftdi cable, but I think they are only used if you are using a bootloader? So I think I need a usb to ttl converter and I've found a couple cheap ones on ebay and am wondering if they will work. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-USB-TTL-Converter-Module-buildin-in-CP2102-/180824855916?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a1a00556c#ht_2026wt_958 This one I'm pretty sure will work but I think I would need to convert it to six pins for the atmega: http://www.ebay.com/itm/USBASP-USBISP-AVR-Programmer-ATMEL-ATMEGA8-ATMEGA128-ATMEGA168-New-/170787590104?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27c3bbcfd8#ht_2946wt_958 Sorry for such a beginner question I'm just getting started!

Few days ago I was making arduino project which involved using power supply with 12v (musical floppies). I had uno connected to my laptop and I was connecting power supply to floppy which arduino was supposed to control, but I plugged wire in wrong socket. Computer and power supply shut down immediately. I checked later and it appears that I put 12v straight into ground that was also connected to arduino. And later when I tried to upload something on board I got error 0x00 not in sync. 13 led turns on when connected, but board dodn't respond to reset. But it appears on computer so it's not completely fried I think. After some research I bought usbasp programator to try burning new bootloader, but after connecting it always say target doesnt answer. check connections. I did that (didn't checked with multimeter yet) but Im pretty sure its wired correctly. Any ideas? And if not is buying new chip (atmega328-p) going to solve problem?
