Can we use Electromagnetic waves to produce current. Like a cellphone starts charging when it recieves a call?

Its just an idea that struck me when i my cell phone's battery was dead due to a power cut. Can it be made possible. KINDLY DON"T PASS FUNNY REMARKS.

Potentially revolutionary idea concerning remote power?

I learned in physics some time back that directing radio waves towards a metal object will induce an alternating current. My question is: Could you power something with an external but unconnected power source? I'm thinking something like a guitar with no lead that still manages to send back sound data to the amp. NB If this idea already exists, please tell me.

Hydrofoil Surfing - A New Adrenalin Sport

Listening to Silvio Rivier, the host of Global Village, there was a section on Hydrofoil Surfing. I turned to the television, interested by this large word, to see this guy surfing a foot above the water! It seems that instead of floating along the water like a normal surfboard this board actually would be below the water while you stand on it. A jet ski pulls the surfer up to speed, bringing him up to the top of the water, but that's not it, there's a fin that leads down a foot and a half or so below the board, and attached to the end of that is a special shaped piece of metal called a hydrofoil that collects the water as it comes up from the bottom of the sea and goes over as a wave. The surfer then keeps going upwards, until the "foil" is about 4 inches under the water. Therefore the surfer can balance above the water, with very little resistance & going very fast. It's technically possible that this could be used for surfing not just close to land, but hundreds of miles out, so the person can surf for as long as their legs hold out, because they can surf in rougher water. Does any body think they could build one of these? Balancing on one is supposed to be like using a uni-cycle, & I'm having trouble surfing normally so even if I did build this I probably couldn't ride it. This goes out to Laird Hamilton, the creator of this funky board, & I'm looking forward to an Instructable. Cheers everybody, ~K P.S. The links aren't working so I'll add them as soon as possible. Neither is the video button, sorry about that, I'll have to add a picture instead.

I need a circuit that can convert sine waves to square waves.

I need a circuit that can convert sine waves to square waves that works with a wide range of frequencies and doesn't change the frequency, for a project i am working on. I also need a circuit that can convert square waves to ramp waves that also works with a wide range of frequencies and doesn't change the frequency. Thank you in advance.

Acoustic Levitation?

I want to know if anyone knows a way to do this at home. Acoustic levitation is a way to levitate objects in space using sound waves. That site gave a very thorough explanation of how it works, but not how to do it. If someone knows how, I'd love to see an instructable.

How to send and receive an electrical signal?

I don't know much about radio waves and oscillator circuits , AM/FM and stuff, but I need to send just electrical signals wirelessly, without any information on it, to some other device which activates when it would detect the signals. I would prefer to make the devices myself, if it is possible, without needing to buy anything, like RF oscillators and other stuff.    I was told that whenever electricity passes through a wire, a radio wave is emitted outwards from the wire, and is emitted every time the current flow stops, starts or changes direction,  I was also told that whenever a radio wave crosses a wire, it induces a very small current in it. I don't know if whether the above information was correct or not but I think I can use it in making such a device.

Why is a modified sine wave harmful to electronics? Answered

I was reading an article in a computer magazine about UPS (Uninterruptible power supplies). It said that UPSs produce a modified sine wave. However it said that using a modified sine wave to operate computers over long periods is harmful. I wonder how a modified sine wave could damage a computer. All it is is just a sine wave that steps instead of a perfect curve. Right?

Leatherman: Surge or Wave?

Ok, so I want to buy a Leatherman. I have narrowed the choice down to the Surge or the Wave. The Surge has more tools, but you cannot have the file and the wood saw at the same time. The Wave has both. I am swaying towards the Wave at this moment, do any of you have Leathermans and would recommend a certain one?

Square wave inverter?

I am building an inverter that will use a square wave pulse to drive MOSFET's at 50-60Hz. I have read and heard a lot of stuff that running square wave into a transformer is not a good idea, what I want to know how bad is it? Also will adding capacitors as seen in my image be able to smooth the square wave a bit to help the problem? If so what capacitance should I use? (About 200A input) (The 12V square wave is coming from paralleled MOSFET's)

Is there anyone on here that knows how to calculate the energy generated by from wind or waves turbines. I've been trying to find out on the 'net but all i can find is either way too advanced for me or just describing good places to put the turbines. I want to know if I should go for wind or wave energy for greening out my summer house.? I think wave generated energy would suit the place best but i need to confirm that.

Audible frequency amplitude modulation of 20kHz carrier for diffraction demo. Answered

I am attempting to build an audio projector that takes advantage of the low diffraction of high frequency audio waves. Audible range frequencies diffract more than, say 20kHz, so I want to modulate a 20kHz carrier wave by an audible range source, hoping that the carrier wave will be maintained for longer distances (like a beam of sound), and that my ear will ultimately perceive the audible input being delivered on the carrier wave. My question is: Should I be aiming to produce an AM Radio type modulation that has an envelope of the input both above and below, mirrored across the x axis? Or should I try to make it so the final signal has the same shape as the source wave, just filled in with 20kHz carrier? Also, is a square wave carrier sufficient, or will it need to be a sine wave?

mechanical wave

I'm trying to build a tail of a fake animal, and the tail is kinda long (total length of about 3 feet), I have a 10 pound pull solenoid and I want the tail to kind of do a wave thing, like if you were do a wave with your arms ( not in a group, all by yourself where you hold your hands together, you know what I'm talking about). I know how to do the electronic part of it by sending pulses to the solenoid, but How would I convert that into a believable tail?

Is it possible to use the guts from a flash disposable camera as a high voltage square wave generator? Answered

Is it possible to use the guts from a flash disposable camera as a high voltage square wave generator? I know that in order for the transformer to work it must use AC voltage so the 1.5 DC is changed to some high voltage AC but I'm not sure if it is square wave or just regular sine wave. And I'm also not sure at what point the AC is changed back to DC for storage, any help? A schematic or some diagram would be much appreciated!

Help With Warcraft III World Editor

I have recently been creating a tower defense map with the warcraft world editor and I am just starting to make all the waves. My map is a Solo TD where the creeps move through multiple checkpoints. The problem I'm having is that if a creep manages to step into a region that he is supposed to later on (if someone mazes and makes it so they have to go through the last region before the first) then the creep dies. I was wondering if there is a way to make it so they HAVE to enter the first regions before the others apply to them. There is a way to do it with variables but that way is going to take me FOREVER. I was wondering if there is a faster way than just creating a load of variables so when a unit walks into a region it records it and after a certain number the next region is activated. That way also has a few flaws that would be difficult to maneuver around. Thanks in advance! The red words in the picture say "makes them go that way". It did't show up as well in JPEG form.

How to upgrade a Modified Sine UPS to Pure Sine? Answered

Hello, How could I upgrade an uninterruptible Power supply that has a Modified Sine Wave to Pure Sine wave? I got a cheap 400 watt HP UPS (for a tenner) with a modified sine wave;  then got to discover it would be much nicer that is was a Pure sine Wave ^^. The purpose is to use it as an inverter for most household items (in a solar set-up). There are videos to increase wattage but I have not found yet something informative enough to upgrade to pure sine. Thank you!

Would we lose our moon? What would/could happen?
