Arduino Drone? Answered

Hi, I would like to make an Arduino- based drone, but don't know where to start.  I would like it to be a quadrotor, but still have the ability to carry out automated tasks, and have a long-range (1-2 miles) communication system that I can control from my PC.  I can program Arduino, and C# proficiently any help?  Thanks.

I'm on almost same route as you but am making a RC Tank. I have just made and instructable in how I got started with RC and Arduino but my method will not suffice for your needs but can be a step towards getting there.  For example I'm focusing on making a non-automated RC tank to polish controls, functions and drive line to then turn into an autonomous machine.

I second MDheliMech's refferal to Arducopter and have been looking at getting an APM for some time now!

http://code.google.com/p/arducopter/ Full autopilot drone. drag and drop map interface set waypoints and it flies the path you determine. The only limit is battery life. Keep in mind though most places (in the U.S. anyway) have a line of site rule for R/C aircraft.

Arduino based quad copter projects are a dime a dozen. You can find them everywhere. The problem comes in trying to get a 1 to 2 mile range and control from your PC. Radio control of that range for a drone may require a special radio license.
