British law on defacing coins? Answered

I wanted to drill through a 10p to make a ring like the ones on this website.
BUT I NEED TO KNOW THE BRITISH LAW
Lots of people are saying its illegal and stuff.

1. I don't think the police will bother you - they didn't come to investigate my burglary !

2. Our coins are NOT made of silver and will be very hard to work - will nor anneal to any great extent and may give you a rash (Nickle content)

3. Look at CooksonGold.com - they are jewellery and Bullion suppliers in the UK you can get a small amount of silver sheet or strip at a reasonable cost to make a real silver ring. They deal with the public.

Its only illegal if you try to pass it off as legal tender after you've defaced it, used as a piece of jewellry, you're fine.
