# Can I modify a Microwave Oven Transformer into high voltage? Answered

Can I modify a Microwave Oven Transformer into high voltage?
I had a MOT. secondary coil: 2kV output
I heard some people in internet were modify the MOT into high current
Can I modify the MOT Primary Coil into a few turns.
Just like this formula : Vs/Vp = Ns/Np
The original is : Vs/Vp = Ns/Np      2000/220 = 2000/220
In my imagine : 30 turns heavy primay
New one : Vs/Vp = Ns/Np       Vs/220 = 2000/30     Vs=14 666.6667
Can I do this?????????????????????

Do you mean modify to a high CURRENT, low voltage secondaey ? In which case, yes.

This is my plan .
But Can I modify to high voltage, high voltage secondary?

2kV is considered high voltage. This kind of supply can kill you in less than your last heartbeat.

You MIGHT consider a Cockroft and Walton multiplier after it, but, as I said, this thing can KILL.

Thank for suggestion.
But I want to make a higher voltage <2kV to build Spark Gap Tesla Coil
In my country, is difficult to get a Neon Sign Transformer.
Flyback Transformer may dead when it turn on for a long time.

Do you really mean < here?

Bear in mind what a flyback supply was MADE to power and for how long.

The question you need to answer is how much power do you really need.

Which country are you in?

40W Flyback
I live in Hong Kong

Only the transfomer tells you what the thing can do, no amount of messing around with the input supply will help you. So, source a nice, big, FB transformer.

I am AMAZED that, in HONG KONG of all places you can't get an NST !!

In Hong Kong , the bloody law restrict citizen to use or buy high voltage
And over 1000mW Laser is breaking the law.
So I'm not free when I doing experiments
