Can I upgrade this particular BIOS? Answered

I have an HP Pavilion a6042n desktop computer. The current BIOS is Phoenix - AwardBIOS CMOS Setup Utility. The current version is V6.0 the BIOS revision is 5.03   03/02/2007. I have another HDD that I wanted to add in with the original one. The purpose was to set these two up as a RAID 0 but while searching through the setup utility, I could not find anywhere to change my sata mode. I also cannot find my bootable usb when I'm rooting through my boot sequence all I find are the HDD group, the cd/dvd group, the network group, and the floppy group. So either I am being very dense or I really need to upgrade my BIOS...

ADDENDUM: I actually do have an option to change my SATA Contoller Mode but it is greyed out. Could this be because my BIOS is set up for home use instead of office use?

Go to HP's website and find their support page. Enter the specific model number of your PC and look for downloads, if there is a BIOS revision for your PC, you can download it there.

You can upgrade the bios all you want. The bios can even have support for Raid 0. But if the motherboard doens't have the hardware for managing a Raid configuration you won't be able to raid the drives.

Even If you have the most recent bios, sometimes reflashing with the

same version will fix problems.

Also see if you can find a user manual from HP or check out HP user forums

for solutions to the raid problem. Might be a jumper on the mobo.

As for the bootable usb problem , check out this free utility.

It is possible to trick the bios into seeing a bootable usb stick

that normally can't be seen by some pc bios. :
