Yes it the conditions are right they can be destroyed unless they are designed for very high heat. And it's very easy for them to get to hot to touch.

Their efficiency is also directly related to how cool you keep them - hot panels put less energy into the electricity part of the equation... Anything over about 50 degrees C (with decent heat conductivity like metal or glass) is 'near too hot to touch, definitely uncomfortable. 37-41 is a hot tub/shower. Over 55-60 and you can start doing damage... On a hot day the air can get up to 45 celcius in some ridiculously hot areas...physical surfaces can get near boiling.
