Can someone help me with Google Sketchup? Answered

I've just finished a Garden Arbor project. A 3D sketch would make it easier for others to follow and build but I'm such a computer dummy.

Here is a picture. Can somebody please help me?

Here's a Mk II stab at it. This is in PDF format. If you click on the picture, with Acrobat reader you can see it in three dimensions, and rotate it etc.

Dude! That is so close except both the top and sides are straight, not domed. Can you help fix that?

How weird to be able to rotate it. LOL. I told you I was a computer dummy!

Ah, so the frames start identical, but you adjust where the pin hole is, so the roof line is straight ?

Might be tomorrow when I fix it - its midnight here now !

Exactly. Thanks so much and get yourself a good night's sleep. It's only 4 pm here!

OK, Last one for tonight - with it moved like you want, we'll need to make the hinge point right. Where is that, relative to the ground ?

The measurement from the ground up to the connecting bolt is 22".

Are the frames identical ?

Yes, the Side frames fan out and are identical, but opposite each other.

Does it have to be SketchUp ?

user

No. I just assumed that would be the easiest program?

Its dinner time here. I've drawn you something to take a look at , but I can't post it yet.

Here's a VERY rough shot at it, rendered with a program called Alibre.

I agree. SWEET to find someone who knows what the heck they are doing. That Sketchup had me going nuts!!!

Alibre's much easier to use and has more features than Sketchup. You should try the free trial, if you like it it's only $99 for a personal copy too, very good value.

I tried to sign up last night. I'm still waiting for the confirmation email to use the free trial. 8-/

My problem is t.i.m.e.

That's why I had to check before I drew it in my CAD system - I hate Sketchup for this kind of thing.

Great work helping out a fellow Instructabler.

Here is a picture of the sides. The widest angle is 25 degrees, graduating down to 12 degrees.

A frontal view showing the staggered sides.

Here is another side view. The side lumber is staggered and will open up or fold in like a fan when the support side bars are removed.

Thanks for your help and patience!

Give me some rough dimensions for the parts, and I'll refine this a lot yet. What angle is there across the roof ? Are the sides vertical to the ground ? Do you stagger the sides so that the roof lines up, or do you just let it run out a bit ?

A VERY pretty project, if I may say so.

The Lumber is all 2 x 2 (except the 2 supporting cross bars of the sides)

The height is 6'5" at the side corners and 7' 2" at the peak, which is at a 15 degree angle.
