Hi. Would these molds melt if used with metal?
There are several types of RTV silicone rubber that you can use for casting low-temperature metal/alloys like tin and pewter. SmoothOn's Mold Max 60 has the highest heat resistance that I know of (560° F / 294° C), but other brands may offer even higher heat resistant products.
RTV silicone is NOT recommended for higher melting temperature metals like brass, copper, and aluminum. For these higher melt metals, lost wax casting using plaster molds is a frequent method used. Here are two instructables that go over the lost wax casting process:
