Hi. Yes, you could do that if you wanted, but it would be trickier than just extending the pattern because the inside piece will need to be slightly shorter than the outside piece to accommodate the extra leather at the fold. For this reason, the inside flaps and the outside could no longer be one folded piece, you would have to make the inside flap a separate piece sewn or riveted down at the base, leaving a gap at the fold like like I an showing in this sketch below. If you read through the lesson on Making Leather Patterns, I think you will be able to figure out how to do this, but you might also want to test by folding one piece if leather inside another to see how long the inside piece needs to be so it is flush with the outside piece when folded. Let me know if this makes sense :)
