Choosing components for a car-amplifier - which way to go? Answered

I am lucky enough to have a few "hi-fi" amplifiers around my house. What I've noticed is that the better quality kit has far fewer components than the generic cheap Asia imports. Am I right in my assumption that fewer components of significantly higher spec is the way to go when building a car-amp for myself? Many thanks.

I wish I could choose all of you as a best answer

(hey, 'ibles bosses, why can't I? there's loads of times when additional answers build on a great answer - in line with the 'be nice' policy, what could be nicer than to have multiple best answers?)

but a coin-toss-flip has seandogue to get it - sorry iceng and frollard - i do appreciate your input. ;-)

I always believed, Asian electronics having a high parts count was the result of
cheep labor and very low component cost.

+1.

Cheap component cost means they run into more engineering problems that they have to solve with more parts :)
