Constantly being logged out of instructables Answered

Ubuntu linux 11.10
Chrome browser version 18.0.1025.168

How long is the timeout before you have to sign in to instructables again?

I log in, have a look around, head off for a short while (as little as an hour in the last case) and I am forced to log in again.

Why not allow "Log in forever"?

It can't be for security reasons as autocomplete has my information and I just click login anyway, I would just rather not be forced to click login when I go to a new page, which takes me back to the homepage and forces me to go  [<-] back, [<-] back, [F5] refresh, and then click on the link I clicked in the first place.

It's probably a caching problem tied to site updates. I very rarely have to sign in (kind of like your "log in forever" scenario), but there are times when the site has undergone an update that I'll get booted off and it shows me logged out. So... the easiest way to fix this is to clear the cache on your browser and then log back in. It'll be fine until they make another significant site update that affects your browser.

Let me know if you have any questions. ;-)

I think this is a browser problem, rather than a site problem - when I open the internet on my netbook or PC at home, it starts up logged into this site. At work, if I log in at coffee break, I have to sign in, but then if I go online at the end of the day, even if I've switched the laptop off in between, it remains logged in.

However, if I am using my iPod, it semi-randomly logs me out, even if I'm browsing the site. This most commonly happens if I hit the "post comment" button.
