I wonder what is the difference between Brushless and Brushed DC Motors?
A brushless DC motor is really a synchronous AC motor with a permanent magnet in the rotor. The speed is varied by changing the frequency of the alternating current that drives the motor. The mathematics that describe controlling the motor is similar to the mathematics that describes controlling a DC motor. I suspect the name is popular because it is confusing to the uninitiated.
