DS vs PSP ! Answered

Its the handheld battle! lol.

Just wondering which is better Sony PSP or the Nintendo DS?

Ive got a PSP and I actually got bored of it! The games are not that fun or addictive to me.....
I havn't played on it since September, now thats a long time!

I'm thinking of getting a DS, cause i have played an old pokemon game ( crystal) for the first time ever on my phone, and REALLY liked it. Its very addictive. So it would be better if i played it on a DS which has a bigger screen(s). My phone is only one 1.5 inch.

Plus the mario games and the trauma center games look very fun!

So also, I am asking you is it worth it to get a DS? Will I get bored of it ? Cause personally i found the PSP to be very overrated, and eventually I got bored of it, now its lying around somewhere - useless, collecting dust.

And how much extra did it cost for an R4 and a memory card for it? That's extra, not built in or integrated.

i just bought a acekard2 for 12.00. a micro SD for it was 10 dollars. add that into the price of a DS and it still is only around 140.00 dollars.

The PSP is like the retarted cousin of the DS. You should attach explosives to it and watch the pieces fly. The only thing it is good for is a potential upcoming game, "Secret Agent Clank". Get a DS. It can not only play DS games, but all the GB, GBC, and GBA games. It has a huge library. I am currently playing Pokemon Diamond. Which is great. I still need a couple of the previous GBA games. But Zelda: Phantom Hourglass is also really great. And Castlevania (pick one).

it doesn't play gameboy games, only advanced. they didn't put the special chip in it so it won't play GB or GBC games.

kinda like how the psp has all the psp games, UMD movies, and Downloadable games on the PSstore going for it.

But the psp games are all crap. And UMD is a dying format.

the psp games are aimed a certain crowd. same with the DS games, they are, in my opinion, aimed at younger kids and soccer moms who want to pick up and play whilst the PSP games are aimed, more or less (locoroco) at hard(er)core gamers. i don't 'completely' agree with you about the UMD, but UMD is slowly backing out. kinda like DVD, with HDDVD and BLURAY in the way, it can't 'shine', but it's still there.

It wast really made to be a popular format as much as to prevent piracy. Do you know anybody with a UMD burner? CFW did kinda kill that though...

DS cannot play GB or GBC, but the PSP can play GB, GBC, GBA, NES, SNES, SMS, Sega Genesis, SMD, PS1, N64, C64, PCE, Atari 2600, Atari 5800, Atari 800, Oh and PSP games. Pretty much every system up until the 6th generation. Including GBA.

Yep. Since that comment, I've had a DS, lost it, and then bought a PSP! I still agree with the previous comment! The only reason one would ever buy a PSP is that it is hackable (AKA, all of the GB, GBC, and GBA games I can handle!).

BIG QUESTION! Do you find the screen small?

Select as Best AnswerUndo Best Answer

user
xACIDITYx (author)Baron A2008-01-25

I will tell you this: when i got my psp and sold my DS to my sister, she wanted some help from me with it. before i got the psp, it wasn't a problem. but if you are used to the psp screen, it will seem very small. but, if you get it, you'll get used to it.

I have a ds and i would have said that from experiences on friends psp's the ds actually stands up to it very well. however consider that you don't get the music or the videos. But for a gaming station i think its a great option as it has functionality to play more than one format of game.

A little late but the PSP can emulate every console up until the N64, and that includes PS1. you can download PSP games to your memory stick. UMD movies are pointless when you can get the for free "thepiratebay.org" along with the games and music. DS just plays DS games. and Advance, Which the PSP also emulates. with an attachment, you can emulate DS games also.

Honestly it really comes down to what you want out of the systems (I had both for a time and it taught me a lot about what I expect from a gaming handheld) PSP pros mulitmedia functionality (music, photos, etc) gorgeous screen Much more "hackability" hombrew potential IMHO PSP cons umd movies are crap (why pay the same for a proprietary format when I could get a DVD for the same price!!!) games aren't phenominal weak battery life <4.5hrs DS Pros excellent games great battery life especially when using GBA games CONS no support for GB or GB color games far less hackable kiddie games

it has a couple good not kidde games (DS) such as the cod games and others but yeah alot of the games nintendo makes are aimed at little kids i actually stopped playing my wii because there arent any good games but I hope to get the new game the conduit when I have the money it looks like a mix of cod and halo

Honestly, I have both, but prefer neither, psp is good for fighting and shooting games, the ds is good for younger people, OR for those that like moving (think the Wii) for games such as animal crossing, I like them both the same. Sorry, my comment doesn't help, but still, lol.

the games are good realy good. the only game you might get bored of are easy story games were there are nothing else to do after the game is over. it is addictive!!! also if you buy one i recomend metroid prime hunters, animal crossing, zelda phamtom hourglass, mario party. almost all of those games can be played over wilerles internet to play with people across the world(for free i might add). that makes the fun keep going because there is always someone new to play. you should get a R4 so you can do other things(like put music and movies and emulators on it so you can play more games and gives it a purpose).
