Diabetes glucose meter used with android? Answered

Is there any way to connect my blood glucose meter (accu chek aviva nano) with my android device? My glucose meter already supports connecting wirelessly with a device called accu-chek smart pix(http://www.accu-chek.co.uk/gb/products/datadevices/smartpix.html) wich transfers data from device to pc.

This meter does use an IR interface and Android phone do not have an IR sensor. You would need to find an IR sensor that can plug into your phone and be recognized and useable by the phone. You will then need to reverse engineer the communications protocol the device uses. Finally you will probably need to create an app that ties it all together.

An ambitious project but it sounds fun.

Alternatively, there are several bluetooth enabled meters on the market that can connect to the phone directly. Just search for "bluetooth glucose meter."

It MIGHT be possible. The units talk over infra red links - possibly the infamous IRDA protocol - which was one of the worst standards ever written in my professional opinion.....

Your next problem would be finding an IRDA-USB plugin for the phone.
