EDIT: I found a flash drive, and it doesn't work. I plugged it into my computer, nothing. I plugged it into a laptop, and it said that there was a power surge in the usb device. Any ideas?

if its broken, mabey theres something causing it to short circuit which is why it says theres a power surge, try checking the soldering to make sure there isnt any bits touching other bits.. hope i helped....

maybe its a cleverly disguised broken flash drive, and it was Fate who caused you to receive it. maybe you're the Chosen One.

Try adding a standard USB connector....

You mean trying to add the metal case from another usb device or completely replacing it?

no, just get a USB connector from something, like a cable, chop the wire off, then cut the plastic off the connector, keep cutting stuff off until you have the wires exposed and they go directly to the pins on that connector, then solder the wires to the current connection on the flash drive, note, all the wires should be in a straight line from the flash drive to the new connector, this is so you don't need to worry about what wires go where, as doing it this way they're all in the right place.
