Flux wire welder ? Answered

I too have an inexpensive flux wire welder. Isn't it very similar to Mig welding the flux taking the place of gas?

It is very similar. For the occasional welder, flux core is probably better for welding outdoors, because the gas used in the MIG process tends to blow off of your weld puddle, resulting in inconsistent welds. There isn't a flux core for aluminum, so you still need a gas setup for that. But most flux core welders can be converted to MIG pretty easily.
