Fractal Art Contest -- 2007 Answered

Check out the winners of the 2007 Benoit Mandelbrot Fractal Art Contest -- they're absolutely gorgeous. These are just a couple of my favorites.

Back in the 90's I had one of those zooming fractal screensavers, and could spend entirely too long watching it swoop through the Mandelbrot set. Fantastic stuff.

Thanks to BoingBoing for the link.

Ooh pretty. For those people who make fractals, what program do you use? I have used Apophysis, but could never really figure out what I was doing. That being said, I know this is not very good, but the title should explain something about it. I call this "Josh Got Bored Playing Around With Apophysis and Gimp One Night, and Could Find Nothing Better To Do":

I normally just see these and think "OCTOPUS! OCTOPUS!" Besides that, though, I find them really interesting. :)

Wow. Mind bending. It should carry a label: Surgeon's general warning, looking to long at these images may lead to loss of self, reason, and sanity

Ah, fractals... I spent hours on the Mandelbrot set as well - even back on my old Commodore 64!

That "Church Window" is amazing! A glazier's nightmare though! :-D

Here's an interesting fractal I discovered yea so many years ago:

What happens when you run a Cellular Automaton on a Penrose tiling? Very Christmassy...

They're amazing! I had no idea what Fractal art was until I read the Wiki on it, and now I can see the same shape over and over, it's fantastic.

Spiral Fantasy (by Alfred Laing) looks amazing! So do all the others. :-)
